~Chapter Two~

"Papa! Papa!"

Arnav looked up to find the reason of his breath, his life, his happiness, his daughter, Navshi.

"Angel? You? Here? At this time?" a bewailed Arnav questioned, his mind still drifting away from their thoughts.
"Arre, of course na papa? Abhi to chaar bajne mein panch minutes hai; school kab ka khatam ho gaya hai! It's five minutes to four now; it has been a long time since school has ended!" Navshi nitpicked and sighed, "You are thinking of Mamma yet again na?"
Arnav sensed a scuttle of emotions invading him. He slammed his eyes, having the urge to let go and resided unruffled. "Angel, please let Papa alone, I am-- am-- all-in, please Angel, baccha?" he voiced serenely.
"But papa--"
"No more arguing! Just leave Angel," he disrupted her.
"No-- NO-- NO!" Navshi screeched, "I won't leave papa! I won't! You had promised me a stroll in the park today and you can't retreat papa; you can't! NO! I will NOT leave!"
"Angel, look baccha, papa is very worn-out today, tomorrow we'll go, okay?"
"NO! I want to go, TODAY ONLY!" she clomped her right foot unwaveringly on the flooring.
"Angel, please baccha, attempt and comprehend papa too, please?"
"Papa, but you promised," she said in a squashy voice.
"Angel--"
"You were thinking about mamma, na? Tell me papa? You were thinking about mamma?"
"Yes, I was thinking about her, in fact I always think about her, every hour, every minute, every second," he closed his eyes and let a forlorn tear cascade down his cheeks, "She was my life, the only reason for the change in me, the only reason why I changed from a beast to a human, she was my everything, yet--- she left me and went," he wiped away the fresh batch of tears, "I know--- I know I was the culprit, her culprit for everything and I know that I deserve such a firm punishment, but after all I am a human being too Angel, I have a heart too, my heart too once beat for someone, for Khushi, for your mother, but she left me, left-- left-- and my-- my heart almost stopped, if there weren't you. My heart pains Angel; everyone wishes to have a good life partner who will stand by you like a pylon when you need support-- everyone wi-- wishes but I am just not so lucky, I am--- am --- a--- be—beast who impaired your mom so much that she-- she lef--- left me and went away, leaving me alone, all alone, in this world. You know Angel, when I first knew that you came in this world, I was elated, probably the happiest person on earth but just look at my luck! I was the saddest person too on that day, I--- I--- I--- lost your mom on that day, she left me and went-- she-- she lef--" he chocked.
"Papa---"
"No Angel, let me speak; you are exactly like your mom, same eyes, same mischievous smile, same habits, you are just her replica! At first I was disheartened, I had no reason to live, I just wanted to end my life but on seeing you I got courage and decided to live life, to move on, just for you. I tried a lot but your mother's memories keeps haunting me; in fact they don't haunt me, they give me the courage to live. I wish I could go back in the past and ask, and beg for forgiveness; I wish I could stop her from leaving me; I wish I could express my love to her; I wish I could get her back, my life, my Khushi, my happiness but I know it's just impossible."
"No papa; don't cry! I hate tears papa. Mamma is not gone, she is with you, with us papa, mamma is here only--"
Dabbing the tissue paper on the unsullied hoary tears which were soaking her face, she recomposed herself, pushed opened the cabin door with a loud bang and uttered, "Sir? May I enter?"
He froze on hearing her voice and numbly said, "Khushi?"
"Yes Sir! Actually, I could hear come voices from outside and couldn't help entering your cabin. I apologize for this act of mine, sir but I wanted to assure myself that everything is okay. Are you fine sir? Any dilemma?" she said while handing Arnav a glass of water making sure that he had at least on sip of the liquid.
"I have loads of problems Khushi, loads of... Please Khushi don't torture me anymore, please Khushi, I know you are my Khushi but why can't you remember anything, why Khushi, why? Khushi, I miss you… I--- I--- I love you!" he scrunched his eyebrows as he mulled over and looked at her as she stiffened form, out of shock maybe?
"Miss Gupta? Hello? Where are you lost?" he tried bringing her round.
"Excuse me Sir?" she snapped back, "How can you say such a thing to me?"
Arnav looked all puzzled and mused, "After all what did I say?"
"Sorry," I can't figure what you are talking about.
"Did he just tell me 'Khushi, I love you' or was I dreaming?" she contemplated and said, "Nothing, it's okay! Err--- here's Mr Mehta's file sir, updated with his X-Ray and the date of his next visit. Also, I have gone through the X-Ray and it seems to be a case of "Bone Displacement". Please have a look at the X-Ray and I've also prescribed the ordered antibiotics, please cross check that as well," she said with a confident smile playing on her lips when she heard a voice, "Mamma!". She was rooted to the spot. Her hands began shaking and her vision blurred. In a swift movement, she turned back facing Navshi, a wide grin adorning her face. She made a few steps forward but stopped looking awkwardly at Arnav, "Sir?" she asked, puzzled.
"I am sorry, Miss Gupta," he excused himself.
"Angel, baccha…" he said smiling indicating her to keep quiet.
Navshi ignored her father's indications and gawked at her mother.

Her silky-smooth hair fluttered down her shoulders as her hands made their way to the door handle, making the door open with a swift shove and joggling the throng of people around. The burgundy saree which she was gilding her flew up due to the abrupt puff of air, exposing her milky waist as her hands trailed to recover it and secure it well on her left shoulder. The whole office experienced the awe-striking scene that divulged in front of them; many of the male workers were on the verge of fainting whereas the others kept drooling on the figure in front of them. "What a drastic change!" "From Sankabala, direct to Madhubala," "Haye! What a figure!" Overlooking all those remarks, she continued her way to Khushi's bureau, her waist moving left and right with each step that she made.
"Hey Shi!" she hailed practically jigging on her as she pulled her in a hug, "I missed you my dear sister! So, tell, how are you? And how is my jijaji brother-in-law? I hope you are feeding him well! He has become so thin over the course of time; and what about my chubby niece? Kaisi hai vo? How is she?" she bombarded her with several questions, not even giving Khushi time to breathe.
" I am in good health, as I can get without him. Why are you joking Lavanya? You know that we are not in good terms," she said meekly.
"Haila! You are not in good terms with jeejaji? What happened? Tujhpe atyaachar kiya hai kya, uss Arnav Singh Raizada ne? Batao mujhe! Did that Arnav Singh Raizada torture you? Tell me!" she left out a soft gurgle.
"Lavanya! Stop! And why did you come here? Uff! Tume bhi na, didu! What if he sees you and something happens? Itna bada risk liye tune! You took such a big risk!"
