It was 10:00 pm at night when Khushi came back to the room.
"Kahan thi tum? Pata hai kitna pareshaan ho gaya tha main …. Agar tumhain kuch ….." As he saw her entering in he immediately held her from shoulders and shook her furiously, he stopped as he saw tears glittering in her eyes. He loosened his grip and left her
"I am sorry"
"Hum theek hain" Saying it she came to the closet
"I know Khushi, main bus …. Tumhaare liye yeh jagah nayee hai toh iss liye ….." She didn't let him complete
"Acha aur aap toh bachpan se yaheen rehte aaye hain" She retorded making him smile
"Ab zyada muskuraaien mat aur change ker lijiye, humain bohat bhook lag rahi hai" She said handing him a black suite
"Khushi dinner suite, are you serious"
"Haan toh, dinner pe dinner suite hi pehnain ge" She was again not making any sense but to avoid messing with her this time he silently moved to the bathroom

Arnav was driving towards the restaurant which Khushi told quite far from the hotel they were residing. Although he was not getting why she was not ready to dine in the hotel like everyday but he didn't question her.
Reaching there a waiter took them to a table in the corner and noting their order he left. The restaurant was not very crowdy, only a few people were there. The light background music and the dim lights has created a dreamy aura. Some couples are dancing at the dance floor. Khsuhi was continuously chattering and Arnav was listening to him amusingly
The did dinner silently. It was 11:45 when they came out. The wether was getting colder out. They were walking along the road side. Their hands entwined with each other. Arnav embraced her sideways as to shield her from the cold and Khushi smiled inwardly
Khushi peeked at her watch restlessly. 5 minutes left. She came in front of him.
"Apni aankhain bund kijiye" She commanded and he looked at her confusedly
"What? Why? Khushi what are you …." She didn't let him speak
"Kijiye Na"
Inhaling, Arnav followed as she said, "Khushi don't try something stupid" Arnav spoke as he felt her blindfolding his eyes
"Hum aisa kuch nahi ker rahe" She made faces and dragged him with her
"Khushi …. Kahan ja ….."
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY" She screamed in his ear and Arnav backing off just rubbed his ears. He was surprised, was this she was planning all day
"Kaisa laga aap ko surprise?" She asked removing the blindfold from his eyes. Arnav just opened his eyes and unable to speak stared at her
Smilingly, Khushi turned his face and now Arnav was at the loss of words. He never in his dreams imagined that anyone could do this on his birthday and from Khushi he never expected that
It was some sort of a compound where they were now, fully decorated, in the mid of it a table for two has been arranged where the cake has been placed
"Kaisa laga?" She asked again a bit apprehensive of his reaction
He turned his face to her,
"Khushi you know that I don't like celebrating my birthday" He wanted to speak something else, something to thank her but this is all came out. Her glowing face turned dim in moment
"I mean …. I really like all this but ….." He instantly covered for his mistake as he glared at her dull face
"I …. am ….sorry" She stuttered holding back her tears and Arnav cursed himself for making her feel bad
"No Khushi … actually …."
"I think we should leave" She said cutting him and turning to move. Feeling furious at himself he pulled her towards him
"Look at me" He commanded holding her chin, making her look in to his eyes. As she lifted her gaze the tiny drops at the edge of her eyes fell and rolled on her cheeks.
"Khushi I meant to thank you but ….." He paused as he saw more tears glittering in her eyes,
"Hum dost hain?" Sighing, he tried to use her tactics to make her fel better
Unable to speak Khushi just nodded a yes
"Not like this Khushi, jaise main ne jawab diya tha waise" He said
"Hum Dost hain?" He repeated
"Ha … Haan" This time she replied using her voice
"Tumhain mujh pe trust hai?"
"Haan"
"Tumhain lagta hai ke main tum se naraz hoon ga"
"Nahi"
"Ke main tum pe ghussa karoon ga"
"Haan …. Nahi …" Khushi was a bit reluctant to answer it being him so unpredictable
"Joh tum abhi mehsoos ker rahi ho, mujh se keh sakti ho"
"Haan"
"Then tell me" He said holding her hand and walking towards the dining table
"Per … hu …hum ….." She didn't know what to say
You can share anything with me Khushi, remember" He told her reminding about her own questioning
"I am sorry, humain aap ko bata ker yeh sub kerna chahiye tha … hum jaante hain aap ko hamara aap ke birthday pe rehna pasand nahi per …." Before she could complete he silenced her placing his finger on her lips

Khushi stepped back trmbling at his touch on her lips. It brings back the worst memory of her past. Shyam forcing her and her pleadings to stop him, then her pleads telling Arnav she is innocent
Change in her expressions didn't go unnoticed by him. He knew what exactly she was thinking and he has to take her out of it.
"Khushi, tumhain mera birthday kaise yaad tha" He said making her sit
"Hamaare birthday ke 2 weeks baad hi toh aata hai aap ka birthday, humain kaise yaad nahi hoga" She said getting back to her normal self again, she didn't want to think about he past, not at least now
"Hmm .. by the way is this the only presnt for me?" He asked scrutninzing the whole compound and she didn't get it
"Matlab?"
"Matlab yeh ke sirf iss decoration aur cake ke liye tum ne mera wallet khali kia" He said teasing her while Khushi gets offended
"Haww aap ko yeh sub kuch bhi nahi lag raha, Humain sara din tyari mein lag gaya aur aap keh rahe hain yeh sirf hai?" Arnav couldn't hold back his laughter now
"No actually mujhe laga tum mujhe koi unique sa gift do gi" Khushi's eyes widened at this
"Toh … toh yeh unique nahi hai" She asked gritting her teeths
"Nahi yeh toh koi bhi ker sakta hai"
"Acha theek hai, aap ko kya chahiye?" She asked feeling all her efforts going in vain
"Can I hug you?" Khushi looked up at him shocked, He was smiling at her but the look in his eyes was different made her lower her gaze
"Ky …. Kya …." She stammered
"I said hug me if you really want to do something to make me happy" He said getting up from his chair
"Ya … Yahan?" She looked around leaving her seat and coming in front of him
"Haan, sub kuch yahan arrange hai toh …."
Khushi covered the distance between them and lightly placed her palms on his shoulders. Slowly leaning forward she placed her head on his chest as her hands wrapped around his neck. Arnav smiled as his arms clinched her waist. He rested his chin on her shoulder as he held her closer.
It seemed that the moment has stilled for them. They kept on standing like this for a long time when suddenly Khushi pulled back from him. Arnav looked at her confusedly. Her face was drenched in tears and she was sobbing badly
"Khushi" He worriedly came forwards, cupping her face he wiped her tears but more ran down to her cheeks
"Khushi what happened?"
"Humain wapis jana hai" she spoke controlling her tears
"Haan … hum bus ja rahe …."
"Humain ghar wapis jana hai …." Arnav didn't get what's running in her mind but he did not question her because he knew she won't be able to answer
"Ok …. Hum kal wapis chalain ge … Theek hai …. Now relax" He once again embraced her caressing her hairs
Khushi couldn't tell him that his embrace was bringing back the old memory when he pulled her apart from him that night, when she hugged him hoping that he would believe her but he …. Instead of keeping her hoped, pushed her out of the house

"Haww It's nothing for you, I spent all day on these preparation and it was a just for you?" Arnav couldn't hold back his laughter now
"No actually I thought you would gift me something unique" Khushi's eyes widened at this
"So … is this not unique?" She asked gritting her teeths
"No anyone could do this"
"Ok then tell me what do you want?" She asked feeling all her efforts going in vain
"Can I hug you?" Khushi looked up at him shocked, He was smiling at her but the look in his eyes was different made her lower her gaze
