Chapter 1
TRING TRING TRINGGG
Khushi raised her head to check the time.
6:30 AM
Grumpily she turn off her alarm and slowly slides out of bed cursing herself for not working on that essay earlier because of which she only have a couple hours of sleep. She looked longingly towards her bed, it felt like it was calling her back'
"Sorry bed, I need to get this essay to class on time." She murmured sadly.
A yawn escaped her mouth as she stretched at started to walk towards the door, just then she saw something on her study table.
A gift.
And suddenly it FINALLY dawned on her that today was her birthday.
Her birthday!
She was FINALLY 19!
YAAAHHHOOO
Leaving behind the foul mood, she walked towards table. As she was about to pick up the gift, she noticed a little pink note lying on top of it. She unfolded the piece of paper and read the note.
To our darling daughter,
Khushi, we know you have wanted this for a while so here it is. Hope you like it. And beta, have an amazing day today. Our blessings are always with you, may God grant all your wishes and you have a great life ahead of you. Always be happy beta.
Your Parents,
Shashi and Garima
With tearful eyes, she turned around and walked to her closet and pulled out her locked memory box. The box that contained everything that she could never part with: her thought, old birthday cards, the gifts that held memories, ticket stubs from her first flight. She slowly folded the little note and placed it into that box. Turning back to her desk she opened her gift and to her surprise her parents had given her the one she had desperately wanted: an IPad!!!
She finallyyy got it!
Downstairs, in the dining room her parents sat there expecting her, a big smile lighting up their faces. Khushi couldn't contain her happiness, she ran down with the box in hand hugging both her parents.
"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! You guys are the best!! Thank you!" She was screaming out of happiness.
"Khushi calm down, you are choking us!" her father replied back as she finally let go of their necks.
Giving a kiss to both her parents on the cheek she started to open to the box. The glee, the joy, the happiness evident on her face.
"You are the best parents ever! I love you mumma and papa!" Khushi said.
"Beta come eat, I made gajar ka halwa especially for you." Garima said.
"REALLY?? Thank you mumma, you know I was craving for halwa yesterday. Let me go shower and dressed I will be right back." Khushi said as she started running back up the stair.
"Khushi, slowly, stop running you will hurt yourself." Garima yelled back.
A little while later she came back down the stair to see that her papa had left for work and her mumma was getting ready to leave.
"Beta, what time will you be home today?" Garima asked as she watched Khushi scoop the Gajal ka halwa into a bowl.
"Mumma I am going to be back real soon today actually, I only have to go drop off that essay I was writing last night." Khushi replied.
"Your papa and I will be back by 4 today, we need to talk to you about something and after if you like we could go out for dinner?" Garima asked.
Khushi agreed and waved her mother goodbye before going to get her bag.
Later that day when her parents came home they asked come to living room and Khushi was told the truth about her life. A truth that did not matter to her but was glad to know none the less.
"Beta, we have to tell you something. We know maybe we should have told earlier but we couldn't ourselves to tell you. Beta, we want you to know that we love you, we love you a lot." Khushi was about to say something but before could even utter a word Shashi stopped her and continued talking, " let me finish Khushi, I don't know want to tell you or how too you but I have. Beta we aren't you biological parents, we adopted you when you were 2 days old."
"Papa, papa listen to me, I don't want to you about them, for me you are my parents and always will be." Khushi walked up to her parents wiping away the tears from their eyes. "You are never going to lose me, I am always there you two and I will be there for the rest of my life. You truly are the best parents I could ever have."
She got up and went to get her coat. "Where are you going Khushi?" Shashi asked.
"I thought we were going out for dinner, lets go you two, I want Chinese today!" Khushi replied rubbing her hands together and licking her lips as if she had just tasted something very delicious.
Her parent smiled at her antics and got ready to go out for dinner.
After amazing food, amazing conversations they finally returned home.
Khushi sat on her bed reflecting what had happened today. When she had said she didn't want to know about her birth parents she wasn't lying. Her mumma and papa were the best parents she could ever have, her real parents would not have loved her as much as mumma and papa. They were her real parents no matter what they might say.
They were her mumma and papa and will always be just that. No double thinking that.
She turned looked at her new Ipad, her Ipad, she excitedly started it up and saw an email notification. She opened up the email message app, just one look at the name and she went down memory lane'
