Just a little thought... :) No chappals pilleej!!!! AND it is kinda very long?!
Take Care of My Son
Sheetal felt apprehensive. It had been nearly a month since she had met the Raizadas, and she had grown to love them like family. She had found a good friend in Khushi, and getting to know her more, she had realized why Arnav had fallen in love with her in the first place.
She knew that Khushi liked Sheetal, but felt uncomfortable with the similarities between Arnav and Aarav.
They loved each other alot, THAT, Sheetal knew.
She bit her lower lip. She had planned on meeting Arnav long back, but she hadn't expected him to be married; he had told her back then that marriage was something he hadn't believed in. So she had wanted to hand over her son to him. But now that he was married, it didn't seem like such a good idea...
Day after day, her respect for Khushi grew as she saw how much Arnav had changed because of her.
She had been in love with Arnav in their college days...no, not love. It was an infatuation. Somewhere, she knew that he never had feelings for her, and he had always hated girls, but was sensitive towards them. She knew he was just trying not to hurt her by accepting her, his best friend back then. But then, the prom night had been simply too tempting. She knew she had made a mistake, but then she was just a naive and silly immature girl. She had spiked his drink, and what happened later, had given her Aarav. Her first son, her whole world.
She inhaled deeply. Khushi will understand, she thought. I will tell her everything...
She slowly walked towards Arnav and Khushi's bedroom. She knew he had left for office. She knocked lightly on the door, and on getting no response, she walked in quietly, to see Khushi lying on the bed, with tears streaming down her face.
Sheetal panicked. She walked in hurriedly, and closed the door behind her. "Khushi?" she asked.
Khushi looked at her, and more tears filled her eyes. "Sh-Sheetal?" Sheetal and Khushi had grown close enough for Khushi to remove the 'ji' on Sheetal's insistence.
Khushi wiped her tears away, and forced a smile. "Need anything...?"
Sheetal sighed. "Khushi, don't lie to me. Are you alright...? What happened?"
Khushi looked away, and a slight movement of her eyes, made Sheetal see a flash of white in Khushi's hand.
"Khushi, what is that?" Sheetal asked, reaching out to Khushi's hand. Khushi jerked her hand away and muttered softly. "Its nothing Sheetal." Ignoring Khushi, Sheetal reached out and grabbed the papers from her hand. Before Khushi could react, Sheetal had gotten the papers and was already reading carefully.
Khushi sat mutely, trying to understand why she was the victim everytime. Why hadn't Arnavji told her? She closed her eyes trying to digest a bad news at a good time and good news at bad times... Aarav was indeed Sheetal and Arnav's son as she had suspected. And at a time like this, she was pregnant with Arnavji's child who already had a son that needed him. She took her face in her hands and began to cry.
Sheetal read the reports, and sighed. "Khushi?" she whispered.
Khushi looked up. "I am sorry Sheetal, it's just that-"
"No Khushi. Don't apologise. I understand what you are going through..." she said, and she told the whole story to Khushi whose eyes widened with shock, and when Sheetal concluded by saying that Arnav did not remember a thing, Khushi cried again. "I am such a bad wife! I went behind his back and-"
"Khushi, it's alright..."
"But why NOW Sheetal? After all these years? Why didn't you tell him then?"
Sheetal decided to go with the truth. "If I had told him about my pregnancy, he would have forced himself to be with me. And after...after that night, I realized that it had been a mistake... That there was actually nothing, Absolutely NOTHING between us." She gave a bitter laugh. "What we had, was not even a MILE close to what you and him share..."
Khushi looked at Sheetal, and felt a wave of pity for her. She slowly realized what she must have gone through as a single mother. But one question was still nagging her. "But, then why now? All of a sudden?"
Sheetal looked at Khushi carefully, trying to decide whether or not to tell her. She sighed, SOMEONE needed to know the truth. "Khushi, when I came here, I intended to hand over Aarav to Arnav, but I swear I had no idea he was married. I wouldn't have come then."
"Handover? What do you mean? You're gonna leave him here?" she asked, surprised. "WHY? Sheetal, he is your son, how can you-"
"No Khushi. Let me complete. I will tell you only if you promise not to tell Arnav that Aarav is his son."
Khushi looked at Sheetal, shocked. "But, I cannot just-"
"Please Khushi? If he comes to know, you know very well what would happen... Especially after your pregnancy..."
Khushi frowned. "Yes. He will go out of his way to try and be a father to both and end up blaming himself..."
"Exactly."
"But Sheetal, I still did not get what you meant by HANDING OVER Aarav." Khushi prompted.
"First promise me you won't tell Arnav..." Sheetal said. Khushi nodded, wondering what was so big.
"I had no intention of finding Arnav Khushi, but I had to. For Aarav. I-I am a cancer patient Khushi." Sheetal said.
Khushi's eyes opened wide, and tears of pity filled her eyes. "Hey DM! I am so sorry!"
"Don't be Khushi. It won't change anything." Sheetal said.
"Well, what can I do for you Sheetal?"
"Adopt Aarav Khushi. As your son. Tell Arnav also that this is just an adoption, something I asked for. I'd feel better knowing Aarav is among people he loves. Besides, he is becoming attached to you anyway..." Sheetal said, trying not to cry.
"Sheetal, nothing will happen to you!" Khushi scolded. "Don't talk like that!"
Sheetal shook her head. "No Khushi. I have got 3 months more..."
Khushi's mouth formed an 'O' at this. She hugged Sheetal and both of them said nothing for a while.
Sheetal whispered again. "Please Khushi? Will you adopt him?"
"Yes Sheetal. I promise." Khushi said sadly.
Both the ladies broke their hug, and Sheetal stood up and smiled. She felt as if a big burden was off her shoulders. She smiled, and got up. Wiping her tears, she said, "Thank you so much Khushi."
Khushi smiled back. "But Sheetal, you have to tell the family about your cancer. Because without a good enough reason, we won't be able to-"
Sheetal understood. "It's okay. I will tell them." Then she walked to Khushi and snatched the DNA reports. She tore it to pieces and put them in the dustbin, as Khusi watched Sheetal in shock.
Then she walked out of the room, feeling light-hearted. She was ready for death now. Turning around, she looked at Khushi, "Take care of my Son."
5 Years Later:
"Mamma, will I have a baby brother or sister?" 13 year old Aarav asked. (Well, for me Aarav is eight, so adjusting with new parents aint a problem is it? KHUSHI did adjust...)
"I don't know beta... You will find out in a week." Khushi said from the bed, with her hands on her swollen belly.
Arnav walked in. "Aarav, don't trouble your Mamma so much!" he scolded.
"Yeah, okay Dad, but... Well, I hope its a little sister cuz I already have a little brother." Aarav said, frowning at his four-year-old brother Aaryan sleeping next to his Mamma. Aarav loved his brother, but well...he wanted a little sister to protect...
Khushi murmured softly. "Yes I hope so too. I will call her Sheetal..."
