Swayam reached his house around 10.00 pm. His grandmother had not eaten her dinner because she was waiting for him. His parents had died in an accident when he was young. He used to live only with his grandmother, his aunt who did not care a damn about him, his uncle and his cousin, who liked to behave like Dudley from the "Harry Potter series".

He opened the door and he knew his grand mom was going to tell him the same story again. The daily drama that took place in their house during dinner.

She was sitting at her regular seat, on the rocking chair near the window. Her face looked sad and tired but it lit up when she saw Swayam's tall figure at the door.

" Hello my sweetheart, how was your day at college? Dinner is ready though it must be cold by now. I'll heat it up for you. " She began to get up slowly from her seat.

Swayam rushed to her side. " It's ok dadi, I'll heat it up. I'll just pop it inoto the microwave." He looked into the kitchen. " You haven't had dinner yet?" He asked shocked.

"No,beta, I was waiting for you. Anyway, I didn't wish to hear more taunts from that lady again at dinnertime as well. "His grandmother said, almost on the verge of breaking down into tears.

Swayam was angry now. " Why , what did she say this time?" He asked.

"Same old thing she says, beta. About how useless I am and what a huge burden I am for them. Forget it na, you tell me , how was your day at college. How was the meeting with your new friend Rey? Did you'll complete the assignment?" His grandmother was clearly putting up a brave face but Swayam could see she was very upset. Nevertheless, he decided not to raise the topic again. There was nothing they could do about it anyway.

He got up to heat the food." College was good and we finally completed the project , thank God." Swayam remembered the conversation he had with Rey…regarding Sharon.

"Whew..finally..it's done with. I thought this stupid assignment was never going too end! What a relief!" Sharon was stapling her assignment together in the car on the way to college.

She had been awake almost the entire night completing the assignment. She had dropped off to sleep while completing it. She had to rush in the morning in order to finish the remaining assignment.

Done with stapling it together, Sharon breathed a sigh of relief and rested her back on the car seat. Unfortunately, they had already reached the college gates. Sharon's happiness was shortlives. She had to get back to work.

She fluffed her hair up , checked her makeup once and took her bag in her hand. Afterall, she had to make sure she looked perfect.

She walked up the college stairs and towards the notice board. There was a huge rush at the notice board. She wondered how she would manage to take a peek at the new notice.

She moved ahead towards the notice board and tried to take a peek at the new notice. Somebody pushed her from behind and her hands brushed against somebody's hand. She felt a warm current pass through her body. She turned to see who it was.It was Swayam.

Swayam had seen Sharon coming towards the notice board. He had felt a current pass through him as well. But he decided to ignore her as he knew, if he went to talk to her she would reply rudely.

He moved away from there and went closer to the notice board.

Sharon felt hurt. He hadn't even glanced at her after their hands had touched each other. This made her upset.

Swayam managed to squeeze between people and see the notice board.

There was a new notice about a farewell party which would be help next week for RDX sir, their Accounts professor. RDX sir was shifting to Kolkata and was resigning from the job of a teacher at St Lousis. He had worked in the college for more than 15 years.

Swayam walked away from the notice board and headed towards the classroom . He didn't even bother to glance at Sharon who was now closer to the notice board.

"Here's my half of the assignment. Keep both of them with you so we can submit them together." Sharon handed her assignment over to Kriya and walked over to where Rey was sitting. She sat down beside him. Swayam was sitiing on the bench next to them.

"Saw the new notice ? About the farewell party? We are going together right?" Rey asked Sharon as soon as she had sat down.

"Yes I did. I just came after seeing it. Yes we are Rey!" Sharon said, bored. She pretended as if she wasn't aware of Swayam's existence.

Swayam was busy in his own problems. He was sure his aunt would not allow him to attend the farewell party. He didn't even want to ask her, he was so sure of what her answer would be.

Over the next two – three days, Rey and Swayam became closer. They were almost inseparable. Swayam found Rey a close confidante. Though he did consider Rey to be a flirt , he found him a good friend to confide in.

"What are you wearing for the farewell party?" Rey asked Swayam in the Economics class. The lecture had not yet started.

"Um..I'm not coming actually."

"What? Why not?? " Rey asked angrily.

"Arree my aunt won't allow me yaar."

"How can she not allow you? You're not a kid anymore!"

"I know that , but I'm telling you na, she won't allow me."

"Do you want me to talk to her? She might listen to me , right?"

Oh no, Swayam thought. He didn't want Rey to come over to his place and see how dysfunctional his family was. No way.

"No way dude, you can't speak to her! Anyway, it's ok. I never knew RDX sir well anyway. I just joined ."

"It's a party! We're gonna have fun! You have to be there! Please can I talk to her!?" Rey was practically pleading with him.

"No ,that'll make her even angrier."

"Well, it won't. Plus, what's the harm in trying. Come on yaar!"

Swayam sighed. Rey was not going to give up

"Fine, you can speak to her." He said dejectedly.
