Khushi covered her face and led out a gasp. But Arnav moved forward and grabbed her hand and led her out the club as the crowd stood on the side silently, watching this beast whose veins were rushing with adrenaline.
He pulled her out of there and dragged her to the parking lot. He banged his hand against the car letting out a shriek as his fist hit the hard metal. Anger was apparent in his eyes, and he flaring nostrils threatened of his intentions to go back inside and rip that man's limbs apart.
Khushi was standing a little far behind, still trying to recover from the incidence. She moved a little forward and mustered the courage to place her palms against his shoulder,
"It's ok! Arnav" she whispered trying to calm his nerves.
However he turned around abruptly startling her, he took hold of her shoulder and tightening his grips he scream
"NO MUSKAAN IT'S NOT OK!"
"Muskaan?" Khushi questioned staring into his eyes. Almost afraid of seeing this side of him.
He immediately released her, and stepped back turning to face the car, away from her. He could not believe he just did that. He pulled open the car door, without looking at her. Khushi understood and quietly followed the queue.
*********
Arnav lay on his bed, unable to fall asleep, to get her longing yearning eyes out of his mind. He was lying to these people who thought of him as an angel. Lying to Khushi whose life depended on this. It was all running in his mind again. She was reminding him of her. Those eyes, her touch! She was diverting him from his goal.
He was here for the money; he had lied for the five million dollars. He had planned this out all so well. He was not going to let anything ruin this. He looked at the picture in his hand. Burned on the edges, rough, worn out and torn in half. He ran his fingers across the picture and a tear rolled down his cheeks. He wiped it away and closed his eyes determined to not let anything get in his way.
*********
Khushi sat on the bed running her fingers through her curls, a million questions running in her mind. Who was Muskaan and why did he call her by that name? Ever since he had arrived, Arnav didn't seem like a person who was burying something inside of him, some burden that he was carrying on his shoulders. He intrigued her, she wanted to know more. To find why she felt like she knew him. However she was not sure if she had a right to question him.
Khushi jumped into the shower and put on a cream dress, with skin leggings. She picked up her Grandma's bible from the table and started towards the breakfast table. However she paused in front of Arnav's room.
Khushi knocked on his door to find it open. She pushed it open and walked inside.
"Arnav?" she called out. She was about to turn around leave the room when she saw the picture lying on the side table. The picture was upside down and she was about to pick it up when Arnav opened the bathroom door and stepped outside startling Khushi she jumped back.
"You scared me"
"Sorry but it's not nice to walk into other's room unannounced" remarked Arnav
"I am sorry!" she said and a little embarrassed turned towards the room hastily. However, she felt her breathing stop when he gripped her wrist and gently pull her back.
"What's this?" he question turning her around.
"Oh! This is my Grandma's bible. I actually came to ask you if you would like to go to church with me for the Sunday mass?" she spoke softly trying to avoid his gaze.
"The church?" he questioned.
"Em! '. yes the place where people go to pray you might have heard of it" she said sarcastically, to receive a chuckle in response.
He thought and little and finally replied, "Sure!" and Khushi was ecstatic to hear that.

After the mass everyone retired to their homes, and daily routine but Khushi insisted on staying back for a while. Arnav sat in the large hall on the bench next to Khushi, a bit annoyed and quite frankly agitated by his surroundings.
The large Church hall was built in the traditional gothic style with thick heavy concrete slabs. The only light was from the hundred of candles lit around the altar. He sat there staring at Khushi who sat with her hands neatly folded in her lap and her eyes shut tight, as if she was actually not even there. However Arnav's constant movement caused her to open her eyes. She smiled to look at his expression. She stood up and grabbed his hand.
"What?" he questioned
However Khushi just gently tugged him and pulled him to the altar. She knelt down on her knees and folded her hands at the platform, and gestured him to follow. He knelt down but his hands remained on his sides. So Khushi grabbed them and forced them together.
"Now ask God anything you want, he is listening" she said smiling at him.
"What nonsense!" he said rising from the floor. But Khushi pulled him back down.
"This is not nonsense, but belief, try it for yourself."
"I don't believe in God" he said
"I think you are lying"
"Is that right?" he asked a bit amused.
"You have a pure soul" she said turning her head towards the altar.
"What do you know about my soul? What if I am the devil" he questioned dazzled by the thought.
"Perhaps not much but enough to say that you were chosen by god to save my life. You might not realize but everything that happens in our lives is predestined. All of this was decided. You are not the devil, you are my angel."
She stood up from the floor, and turned towards the gate.
"I will wait outside" she said gesturing towards the altar.
Arnav sat there glued to the ground, still trying to grasp what she meant, and why he felt like he had known her for years, like she knew him more than himself. And why she failed to see the devil in him that he had been fighting for the last twenty years.
A very insightful update
