Lazy stole my words -
Seeing Tiya comment on anything serious, and engage in a debate or discussion (like in Munchy's thread), i feel so aww-ed (I feel like that for Chutki and bhangan too...:)). Its like I have named you the funny one, and if your answer is serious, I feel your alter ego is writing it, and not you...LOL :P Sorry for stereotyping you, but you are crazy funny and thats why I love you <3. But your serious comments are equally interesting and fun to read.

As a writer on this forum, I truly do appreciate every single one of my readers. I even wrote them a letter telling them so.

Of course it makes me ridiculously happy when someone picks up on a subtle nuance or a hint about the future (I have key points in all my stories planned out so do in fact drop hints all the way through) but if they don't then I guess that just means they will have more of an "OF COURSE!!! HOW DID I MISS THAT?!" moment like in an episode of BBC's modern adaptation of Sherlock. Which I love.

Anyone taking the time out to read in the first place? Thank you. I genuinely do appreciate it.
Clicking a like? Thank you for letting me know it wasn't a disaster.
Leaving an Updte Soon Pls or Fantastic!? Thank you so much. It's alright, I know most of you read a lot and an in depth analysis isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Leave me a long, detailed, descriptive, emotional reply? HERE IS MY ENDLESS WELL OF LOVE. TAKE IT. TAKE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN CARRY.

The one thing I wouldn't appreciate is a reader telling me to change my story. By all means let me know you don't like it- but please do not tell me "Don't do this." Like I said, my stories have milestones and I can't divert from them. Where in the past I have done so, I've regretted it deeply later on. Critique I can handle. Flaming I cannot. V being abused for writing about something taboo in a considered way is unacceptable. A writer's plot is their own. I feel you as a reader are allowed an opinion on it, but unlike with things such as layout or grammar or spelling etc. where you can point out mistakes, I do not understand why you would expect a writer to CHANGE their STORY. Also- DO NOT JUDGE A WRITER BASED ON THE SUBJECT OF THEIR WRITING OKAY? Feel free to rant at me about what I wrote- just do not tell me I must be a bad person for writing it OR tell me not to write it- as long as it's not, you know glorifying paedophilia and rape (when will I let that go? Never is the answer you are looking for)... *deepbreath* Okay. Ranting over.

I will admit, there are certain readers whose comments I look forward to. I know their usernames and if I refresh My Posts and see their name, I'll give a little "Eep." of excitement. But I do read every SINGLE comment and I appreciate them all. I look through all the Likes and I DO know some people read every single one of my updates from their Likes but don't comment. I appreciate the time it took them to read and leave some feedback to let me know they have.

V- readers like you are literally one in a hundred. You're the kind of reader whose hands every writer DREAMS of having their work fall into. You have the ability to understand and feel and appreciate every slightest deviation and hint (mte, you have to be one of about TWO people who don't want Payal to be flayed alive in Tainted). And for this, you ARE one of the aforementioned commenters. If you res and leave me hanging, I am literally FROTHING AT THE MOUTH by the next day 😆. You are very coherent and are able to beautifully express exactly what you thought worked, didn't work, was hinted at and you aren't afraid to ask for clarification.

But not everyone is like this.

Whether out of fear of retribution or judgement from the writer/ other readers, readers often feel afraid to ask for clarification or make a critical comment- and there is an inability of many writers on this forum to handle critique that in a lot of cases justifies this fear- but there shouldn't be. People should be allowed to read, form their opinion and express it however they choose. SO LONG AS THEY DON'T ASK THE WRITER TO CHANGE IT- I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.

I hope this series you're doing helps readers understand how to get the most out of the things they read, but I also hope they all know that they are very much appreciated. People read for different reasons and so there are therefore as many different types of readers as there are writers and I, being neither a prolific nor spectacularly popular writer on this forum would like to say that even though I may come across snarky and sarcastic, a little piece of my heart glows whenever I see a new comment.

Whether it's an essay of analysis from you (this gets my ventricles pumpin' hard'n'fast) or just a 👏 from someone not quite as adept with words (which makes my atria fibrillate).

I agree with you a 120% V! You took the words out my mouth...

And as many before me have mentioned, i hate reses... as a writer it makes me feel good to know that people actually compete to be the first one to comment, but when i see the post not edited im like "well, what a waste!".

But in all due respect, I understand people have things to get to... I personally relate to that issue (since i myself don't comment on a alot of updates 😆), but it would be nice to get an input once in a while, especially when u take the time to PM every single person on the list!

I will add more if i think of any!

Sometimes a single Like is enough...

Everyone has a different way of drawing joy from appreciation, be it readers or writers.

Honestly speaking, it puts me off when writers begin to dictate the volume of comments, or even the content of comments. If readers are pressurizing writers to 'upd8 soon', then I think some (not all) writers fall prey to this cycle and demand more comments on their updates.

Seriously, how many different ways can you say 'awesome update' 'you are too good' ' without sounding like a creeper? When the update hits the spot with the readers, the comments flood in...And when the comments do come in try and see where the reader is coming from. You never know, sat on the opposite computer screen is some 15 year old kid reading about an adult themed FF, demanding to know why the frick are there no Rabba Ve's in this story.

Just sayin', if you're mature enough to write FF's, you should be mature enough to ignore trolls.

Hey V!

See? I am not ignoring you! :P

Anyway, I think any kind of a reader is a good reader. Emphasis on reader. If they read a story, they are a good reader, irrelevant of the fact that they like it or hate it, understood the writer's perspective or not, even if they commented or not (although I do hate pm'ing people who don't comment. I write for my enjoyment, I do not pm for enjoyment 😉)

One thing that does irritate me very much, even make me angry sometimes, is a reader (although I refuse to believe these people read) harassing a writer about how wrong he/she is in writing a story. You can not like it, but please don't say I shouldn't write it. There's a difference.

Good topic and great discussion!

I am a reader. Good, bad, indifferent depending on the story. Some stories move me to comment in detail. Sometimes less is more. Some updates don't move me enough to comment. That is the honest truth. In such cases I will usually just "like" and leave. Some stories are so bad that I will not even "like" Usually will not return to such stories.

i refuse to hit like on stories that glorify violence against women. I don't care how good the writer, might even be one of my favorites but I will not read such stories. My choice.

I get turned off by writers who demand certain number of pages of comments. trust in your work, if it is good, the comments will come. I also tend to get turned off by writers who ask for comments but then do not read those comments. If you as a writer say that you read every comment then hit the like button to let the reader know you did. Else I feel unappreciated and demotivated by that writer.

Regarding comments previous to this which said, don't ask me to change the story. Agree to a certain extent. It is your story, write it the way you want. But if based on my experience I see you make errors, I retain the right to alert you to the pitfalls. For e.g. you write a story where the protagonist gets TB but continues to indulge in kissing scenes and refuses medical treatment, I am going to call you on it. Writing involves research about the topic as well. The more mature writers may be aware of this need, some of the younger ones can benefit from this advice.

Ok long comment, I will stop now.

I wasn't a writer by any stretch of the imagination before IF.
So today, when I actually have an index of my stories, I am continually amazed.
For me, all readers are perfect.
The ones who leave a detailed comment telling me what they liked best are perfect.
The ones who reply with 'please continue', an emoticon, or 'awesome!' are perfect too.

And yes, I even love the readers who res and leave me hanging, because it tells me that they opened my post!

I love the readers who press the like button. When I was a silent reader, I didn't even do that, did I?

And yes, I am in love with all the readers who increase the view count of my stories, even if they didn't press the like button. It shows me that they liked my title enough to click on it.

I would be ecstatic the day someone actually trolls my posts in comic sans pink font, it would tell me I have arrived on this forum!😆

So that's my definition of a good reader. One who is free to read, like, comment or just walk away, but one who has taken the time from his/her equally hectic schedule to open my post.

Reading, and writing, in my opinion, is best with no rules, no boundaries, no codes of proper conduct.

Maybe that's just me, but I like any and all readers.
I'm easy that way!
