CHAPTER 4
Arnav sat in his cabin, trying to join the dots... Aman had said that Varma had sent Malhotra for that file. But that file had been missing for days. Until now, he had assumed that the file was with Varma and was trying to get it for him...But now it was evident that Varma did not have the file either...Then who in the world did?
His thoughts were interrupted by the smell of roses and lemon, punctuated by a knock. "Sir?"
Arnav looked up to see Khushi standing at the door with a file in her hand. Arnav gestured for her to come in, and she obliged. She walked upto him, fingering her dupatta and kept the file on the table.
She turned to leave as Arnav went through the file, with a slight frown. "Miss Gupta?" he said sternly
She flinched and turned around and gave him a questioning look. "Are you sure this is the correct file?" he said coldly.
Frowing, Khushi walked to his desk, and peered into the file in his hand. Oops! She thought and looked up at him to apologise but instead, her senses were attacked by the smell of cologne. Until that moment, neither had realised that in attempt to look into the file, she had come very close to him.
The roses and lemon smell was too strong now, and Arnav tried to tear away his gaze from her greenish hazel eyes but failed to do so. Khushi's throat went dry and she gulped.
They looked into each others eyes for few moments; Khushi was the first to recover. "S-Sir the file? I will get the correct one..." she said, tugging at the file in his hand.
Arnav did not want to look away and found her eyes to be the most beautiful he had seen so far. His trance was broken by her voice. "S-Sir the file? I will get the correct one..."
He blinked a bit, and realised what they been doing and suddenly, he felt angry at himself for being so... HE did not even know what to call it...
"You are paid to do a job Miss Gupta, and I expect you to do it correctly..." He said sternly.
God! The nerve of the man! If he wasn't Anjali's brother, she would have- ugh! She would still have been helpless. Gritting her teeth, and suppressing herself fro, retorting she walked out of the cabin. Well, so what if it was a wrong file, couldn't he be normal?
Her thoughts shifted to Anjali, and the more she thought about it, she realized that this was going to be a big big mess...It would have been much easier with Anjali out of the picture. She sighed, and walked towards her desk, when she saw Lavanya Malhotra with moist eyes, staring at the computer screen in front of her. Khushi subtly walked from behind her, and in the few seconds she had to capture the image on the screen, she managed to grasp the image of a man in early fifties, a woman in late forties, a younger woman with a child, (boy or girl, she did not know) and Lavanya. They were all smiling into the camera, and Khushi felt her curiosity rise as she note that the man in the photo seemed familiar to her. Frowning, she sat in the swivel chair, and rotated absent-mindedly trying to think. Should she call her boss and tell him?
Anjali was a bit taken aback at seeing Khushi. She had changed so much! It was like she had one of those platinum-makeovers! And as far as Anjali could recollect, Khushi never expressed any kind of interest in the fashion field. Then how come she was working with Bhaiya...With Khushi's demeanour, she became sure of one thing...That Khushi was hiding something and something big... Well, she was a Raizada, and she would carry out an investigation. It wasn't that difficult if your fiance was working for a detective agency, she thought grimly.
But first, she would try on her own. She took keys to her scooty, and went to AR. She reached AR at lunch time, and cautiously walked in. She looked around and found that Khushi was not there. Relieved, she walked to the receptionist, acknowledging 'Good Afternoon Miss Raizada's thrown at her with a slight nod.
"Hello Ms Raizada. How may I help you?" The recpectionist said, looking at the girl in whitetop and jeans from under her glasses.
"Where is Bhaiyya?" she asked.
"Mr Raizada is in a meeting."
Perfect! Looked like Devi Maiyya was on her side today. "I will wait in his cabin" she said and went to where she knew his cabin was.
She walked into his cabin, and her eyes scanned the room carefully. Khushi had joined hardly few days back, so her resume and CV along with a copyof her certificates would be here. She checked the pile of files on the table first. "Aha! Bingo!!!"
She went through the file and each page shocked her more and more. Oh Lord! What was she upto?! She could still call her fiance and get things cleared immediately, but something inside her told her that Khushi deserved a chance to explain herself. Maybe it was her love for her best friend talking, but Khushi deserved a chance.
Khushi was deep in thought. Two things were gnawing her mind... 1. Who was that man on Lavanya's desktop? 2. This was chewing out the other one. She felt guilty for hiding the truth from Anjali. The truth would be out someday, but then she did not want Anjali to feel that she had used their friendship to achieve her goal. She would tell her...Tell her as much as was possible...
P.S - La and Khushi's pasts are NOT related...! Nexy update, one of you BIGG questions will be answered!
