Chapter Forty Three
"Hi Karan." Kripa cooed into the phone.
"Well, well, well, I haven't heard you this happy in a very long time. Good, Angad is taking good care of you."
"Yes he is. How are you?" She sat down on the bed and smiled.
"I'm good, missing you. I almost forgot this morning that I don't have to wake you up." He sighed.
"And, I had to wake-up Angad this morning." She grinned at the thought.
"That's good, I just called to see how you were."
"You're coming to the reception tonight, right?" She stood up and walked to Angad's closet, opening it.
"Of course I am."
"Then we'll see you there."
"Bye."
"Bye." She tossed the phone on the bed behind her and looked at his closet. A complete mess. First she had to fix his cloths and then adjust her own cloths. "I'll kill him," she mumbled taking his shirts out and dumping them on the bed, and then one by one folding them neatly.
"What are you doing?" Dev asked walking into the room.
"Papa." She stood up and smiled, and then looked down at the mess with a frown. "Nothing, fixing the mess Angad's made in his closet."
Dev laughed as he kissed her forehead. "That's Angad for you, messy forever. Where is he?"
"God knows and he knows. What brings you here?"
"I just wanted to see how you were doing, finding everything ok?"
"Perfect, couldn't be better." She grinned at him, "except the mess Angad's made. I wonder how he even finds his stuff in that closet of his."
"Well now that you can overrule him, you can teach him something. He's taken up after me." He sighed and looked back at her. "Are you guys ready for the reception tonight? You should leave all this for later Kripa. You're going to have the rest of your life to fix his closet…and him."
"I know. But if I knew where he was maybe I wouldn't be doing this."
"Call him, he never leave his cell phone at home. If he's at home most likely he's with Sia and Neha, his two most favorites when around. Moreover-" he was cut off when his phone rang. "You find him, I'll see you later."
"Ok." After he left she looked back at his mess, picked it up, and shoved it back into the closet.
Skipping down the stairs she walked into the kitchen and made herself a cup of coffee. She knew enough about the kitchen to help herself with the few things without having to ask anyone. Once she was done with that she turned to find Angad looking at her.
"There you are."
"Here I am." He took the coffee from her and drank out of it.
"The coffee was mine, Angad." She reminded him crossing her arms.
"Well it's mine now, rather it's ours now." He took another long sip and then looked at her. "Who sent you those flowers this morning?"
She lost her smile and her hands fell to her sides. "I don't know." She turned around and closed the coffee, putting it back in the cabinet. She knew for a fact that the flowers were from Amna. She had taken a full calligraphy course in college with Faith and her.
"Are you sure you don't know?" He placed the cup on the counter and turned her around. "Because I know for a fact that you're lying to me."
She looked at him bothered, "Angad don't question me when you're not going to believe me. And, since you've drank half the cup, when you're done, wash it and put it away." Before he could say another word she was gone.
Kripa's arms were behind her neck and she yet again tried to tie the back of her blouse. When she couldn't she turned around frustrated and marched to the bed picking up her phone to see if Faith had text her back yet. And, she hadn't.
"Why is my princess so upset?" Angad asked walking into the room, already dressed.
"Because she's married to you now." She stood up and walked to the mirror. "If you don't mind why don't you tie the back of my blouse? Because if you don't I'll be trying to the entire night and we'll get there when the reception is over."
He wrapped his arms around her waist and looked at her from the mirror. "I don't mind tying if you promise I can untie it afterwards."
Her eyes widened as she looked at him through the mirror. She turned around and looked at him. "In that case, I'll do and ask Sana to tie it for me." She moved to the left and he did the same. She moved to the right and he moved with her. "Angad let me go."
"No." He placed her hands on her bare waist and pulled her closer. "I love you."
"I expect that from my husband." She patted his cheek and grinned. "Can I go now?"
"But I hate you right now."
"I see it in your eyes, can I go now?"
"No you can't go and-"
"Papa." She looked at the door. Angad turned quickly and then watched Kripa run past him, but he caught her closer.
"You're too clever, Kripa."
"Angad leave me." She giggled and tried to pushed him away.
"Oh I'll leave you, but not yet." He leaned towards her and Kripa moved her face away.
"Angad someone will come in, the door is open."
"Well you said, 'don't wait to kiss your wife when you are locked away in your room, she wants everyone to know you love her.' I love you and I want everyone to know." His hands were still tightly cuffed around her wrist as she tired to move away, still laughing.
"Angad I'm a black belt in karate."
"Are not."
She scowled at him and then stepped on his foot, he left her with a scream. She stepped back, when he tried to get her again she caught his wrist and pulled him closer. "One week, Angad. That's all I'm asking you for and I won't stop you after that." She looked at him sadly, she knew she only had two more days with him but she asked for a week.
"I was joking Kripa." He brushed her hair back and kissed her forehead like a friend would. "It's always fun pestering you. Plus, you're not going anywhere I'll have to see your beautiful face everyday, I'm in no rush." She wasn't holding his hands anymore so he turned her around and moved her hair away from her back and tied the back of her blouse. "I've spent so many night with you alone Kripa, if I wanted to do anything I would have without asking you once." She looked at him, he loved her so much he was going to be hurt when he found out the truth. "We got married when we thought that was never possible, I'm sure that one week won't change anything if I keep away from you. Again I love you, not lust you."
"Then again," she turned and hugged him, "why do you love me so much?"
"Because you deserve to be loved. Kripa I don't know what been bothering you but you can tell me if you want. But if it's Amna then you shouldn't worry, I wouldn't go back to her if God came and told me. She's past. You're my present and my future. I can stay away from you for the rest of my life, but I can't go back to anyone else."
I won't keep you away for the rest of my life Angad, because you're going to go away yourself someday.
Everyone clapped as Angad popped the champagne bottle and drank right out of it. Kripa clapped with everyone else and smiled fully looking at him, he was so happy. He poured the champagne in two glasses and gave one to Kripa and picked up his glass himself. Their arms tangled and they sipped the champagne while the camera's clicked.
"Kripa." She turned around and saw Faith, she ran and hugged her tightly.
"Your finally here." She pulled away and looked at her. "And you look lovely." She grinned and then kissed her cheek. "I missed you."
"I'm sure you did, with Angad around. Here someone gave this for you. I'll go and meet Angad till then." She left her and walked away while Kripa opened the folded cardstock paper.
The edges were printed in beautiful patters and then in printed letters it said, Twenty-four hours. Kripa felt her heart pound within her chest and her knees weaken. She closed her eyes for a few seconds and then opened them again to see Angad standing in front of her. She smiled, hiding the paper behind her.
"Are you done drinking?" She placed her head on his chest and hugged him, slipping the note under the cake box.
"Are you ok?" He pulled her away and looked at her. "Why are you sweating?"
"Well it's quite crowed in here and then this dress is also heavy, maybe that's why."
"Sir," Angad looked at the photographer. "Are you guys ready for the picture?"
"Yes."
They moved in front of the picture backdrop and Angad placed his arms around Kripa. While the photographer was busy in his camera, Kripa pressed her face against his chest and took a deep breath, holding him tightly. When the man said 'ready' she looked at the camera with her head against his chest and smiled like she meant it. But only her heart knew how upset and afraid she was.
"Angad," she placed a hand on his shoulder and shook him. "Wake-up, you're going to get late." But she herself placed her head on his chest and hugged him.
"I don't want to go to work." He mumbled holding her back. "I just got married two days ago I rather stay with my wife."
"I prefer you stay home myself." She turned and looked at him. "But it's not your fault you couldn't get a leave."
"Exactly." He opened his eyes and smiled at her. "You look beautiful." He brushed her messy hair back and rubbed his thumb under her eyes.
"You look very handsome yourself. It's very nice to know you remembered everything I told you on 'how to keep your wife happy.'" Her face dropped to his chest again and she mumbled against the cotton of his vest. "Now get up or you'll get fired."
"I don't mind." He rolled over once and looked at her. "I still haven't wished you good morning." He grinned and fell on her completely. "Should I?"
"If I say no, will you not?" She asked brushing the hair back and then pulling him down. "As I it is I don't want you to agree."
"In that case, good morning." He pressed his lips to hers and she laughed when he rolled with her in his arms. "I love you!" He nearly yelled in happiness holding her in his arms, tightly.
"Kripa!" He yelled from their room.
Kripa rolled her eyes and looked at Sana. "Does he do this every morning?"
"No, but I'm sure you touched something that he needs you. Go see him I'll finish with the coffee."
"Kripa!" He yelled again.
"I'm coming!" she yelled back running out the kitchen, wishing Dev good morning on her way out, when he yelled again and she screamed in frustration. "What is it Angad?" She yelled at him opened the door finding him standing in a towel. "Why are you standing in a towel, anyways?"
"Because I can't find anything in my closet. What did you do to it?" He opened it again and looked at the unexceptionally clean closet. "What is all this?"
"This is clean." She clarified standing in front of him. "And here is your suit," she pointed, "and your shirts."
"But Kripa this isn't my closet." He winced pulling her into him.
"Correct." She turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck. "This isn't your closet it's our closet."
"Oh!"
"Now unless you need anything else can I go?" She looked at him and the naughty smile that lifted his lips and echoed in his eyes. "You are a devil, Angad Khanna." After kissing his cheek she walked away.
"Hey wait." He grabbed her arm and turned her around. "Since I'm already getting later why don't you get my briefcase ready?"
She smiled, "That I can do." She kissed his other cheek. "Angad I'll get you your cloths before you have troubles in that as well." She walked back to the closet, and while she took the cloths out he hugged in from the back.
"I don't want to leave you and go, Kripa." He kissed her neck.
"I don't want you to leave either." She hugged the suit as she remembered the note from the night before, she had given her twenty-four hours. So before Angad came back today he would know everything. She turned around and gave him his suit. "Go change."
When he came back in his pants and shirt, Kripa was sitting on the bed closing his briefcase. She was quieter than usual for some reason.
"Are you done?" He asked sitting down to wear his socks, waiting for her to say something. "Kripa."
"Yes." She stood and turned as he finished wearing his socks. She picked up his coat and walked behind him and helped him with it, resting her cheek against his back after finishing. He turned around and hugged her. Amna's thought was still bothering her and seeing her bothered was bothering him. "Don't go." She whispered again. "Please."
"Kripa I'll be back before you know it." Holding her close with one arm he tucked her hair behind her ear with the other hand. "Your day will pass with everyone at home and I promise I'll call to bother you a few hundred times, and soon you'll be waiting until I go to work and wish I never came back."
She laughed, "That day will never come, I can promise you that much. If I could, I would keep you here, like this, for the rest of my life." She looked at him and then moved a step away to fix his collar.
"Would you like to have lunch with me today?" He asked kissing her forehead. "I have an hour and we can eat in my cabin."
"I can do that, but I can't cook for you." She frowned. "I better learn."
"You don't have to change anything about you for me Kripa and I'll never ask you to but I would like to go have breakfast before I leave."
"Another thing we can go. Let's go."
Minutes later Angad sat down on the breakfast table with Dev and Sahil. "Good morning Dad, Sahil."
"Good morning Angad. I can't believe you're going to work." Sahil sighed. "I would stay home if I could."
"Me too." Dev nodded after taking a long sip of her coffee.
Angad laughed, "if I was working for myself I wouldn't go to work for the first year of my marriage. Unfortunately that's not the case." He sighed as Kripa placed his juice beside him and sat down next to Dev, sad.
"Well I can tell Kripa is upset about you going." Dev finalized wrapping his arms around her.
"Why don't you go to the hospital Kripa?" Sahil suggested standing up. "Neha and Yash aren't going to be home today and Sana will get busy with Sia's school and stuff later on, unless you plan to spend time with Mom and her charities you better go."
"No," she nodded as she made herself a cup of coffee. "I still have to unpack some of my stuff and I rather spend time with Sana instead of going to the hospital."
"As you wish." He shrugged. "I'm going, Dad are you coming?"
"Yes." He took his last sip and stood up himself. "Have a good day Angad, and Kripa."
They both smiled and watch them leave. Once Dev and Sahil left Kripa moved to sit down beside Angad. "Do you want anything else?"
"No, I should leave myself." He stood up and Kripa stood up with him. He looked at her with his lower lip pulled out. "Smile Kripa, please."
"I'll miss you," she hugged him again. "What time do you get back?"
"Luckily I'm done at six everyday unless I choose to-."
"You will never stay there for a minute more than six for some time." She finished for him strictly. "Do you underdressed that?" She looked at him with a continuing frown.
"Well at least you know how to behave like a good wife. And trust me I'm not staying after six unless it's in emergency."
"I'm expecting that for at least a the next fifty years, Angad."
He kissed her as he laughed. "You're got yourself a deal Mrs. Khanna." He looked back at her, "I forgot my keys and wallet-"
"On purpose." She finished for him with a grin.
"I'm surprised Sahil hasn't been for the past few weeks." Sana said bring Sia to the breakfast table.
"Morning Sana and Sia." Angad said kissing Sia.
"I'll be right back Angad." She walked away from the room.
"Why are you even going to work today, Angad?" Sana asked sitting down beside Sia.
"Because I just joined a month back, Sana. I don't want to go but I have to."
"Here you are." She handed him his keys and wallet, then just smiled looking at him.
"Won't you walk me out?" He asked with a grin. "Sana does almost every morning."
"Come on little boy, let mommy walk you to the school bus. Do you need me to hold your hand?"
Sia and Sana giggled while Angad frowned. "That would help." He held her hand and walked out.
"I'll see you at lunch then."
"Ok." She got on her toes and kissed him. "Bye."
"Bye." He kissed her back and drove away.
