Sorry Guys! This Post might be bit too long, but please bear with me!!!
I had to make it so big ... ;) You will understand why in the next part... :) (:
*CHAPTER 5*
"Lakshmiji, it is Holi tomorrow... I feel so bad. I mean, I always celebrate Holi with family...Now I am in a family which does not accept me as a part of their family... I don't know whether I should look forward to Holi, or not. One thing is for sure... I will keep at least ONE KILOMETER distance from bhaang...Firstly, I blabber away tooo much and say things which are better kept secret when I am high with bhaang...And to top it off, it's not like I am in my 'adda'. This is a stranger's house...Actually it isn't, but after the wedding...no, WEDDING? No. Not wedding... CONTRACT..After the contract, this place has become a stranger's house..." Khushi told Lakshmiji morosely, stroking her ears.
She sighed, resting her head on Lakshmi's tender fur. "Atleast you are talking to me Lakshmiji..." Lakshmi bleated. Khushi laughed hoarsely. "Right... I mean you are atleast BLEATING to me."
She sighed again, and sat by the poolside, staring into the waters. The pool side had so many memories for her in this house... The way he had untangled her from fairy lights...The way he had blown into her eyes to remove what was troubling her... How tenderly he had tied her payal...How he had almost kissed her on the lips...How he had kissed her on the cheek the other day, and how she had kissed him to...A soft smile began to play on her lips... Then, she rememnered how many painful things had happened here...Well, not many, but they were just so painful...so heartbreaking... He had cruelly rejected her right here, and announced his engagement with Lavanyaji...It was here that her life had entirely changed in one night... Where she had agreed for a horrendous contract...! Her mind refused to think further, her eyes closed, as she blinked away the tears... It was true...She had no choice but to admit it to herself, that yes...Her heart had broken because she had fallen in love with him back then...And what scared her, was that despite of all that he had done to her, when she should be HATING him with all her being, she was actually UNSURE about how she felt... Life played such a cruel game...Her instability, she knew, would hurt her more later...
Someone watched, and began to plot to get the truth...
-That Night-
Arnav was asleep, but Khushi lay wide awake, staring at the stars outside...Sleep wouldn't come to her... and that's when she heard footsteps...It sounded like Di's...Khushi panicked...Should she wake him up?
Arnav was not sleep, so he just closed his eyes and remained that way. He did not want to see Khushi's silhouette outside, and the tears glistening down her cheeks as she stared out at the stars. Then he heard footsteps towards their room. He recognised that to be Di's. He instantly jumped out of the bed, and ran to the pool side; Khushi was awake, so he knew she had heard to. Without any explanation, he picked her off the ground and rushed into the bedroom and threw her onto the bed. She had already started heading towards the pillow and look as is she was sleeping there. Quickly swinging the curtains shut, he got in beside her and pulled the comforter over both of them.
"Khushi, come closer," he said whispering.
There was a lot of gap in between them, and both were lying on the edges of the bed. Khushi ignored him. Laad Governor! HE can move towards her right? Why should she do everything? She did not budge.
Arnav got annoyed. He saw his sister's shadow outside his door, about to open it. At the last second, not knowing what to do, he grabbed Khushi by the waist and pulled her closer to him, ensuring that her head was tucked away cozily in his neck.
Khushi was shocked, and her heart rate went erratic... She had never been THIS CLOSE to him... She gulped.
Anjali decided to talk to Chhotey that night. She'd had enough of this nonsense! Couldn't he see how much Khushiji was suffering? Then an idea came to her...She started walking towards his room, making as much as noise possible as she walked. She reached the door and waited for a second to give them time to settle...She knew exactly what was going on...
She opened the door and to her complete satisfaction, saw Khushi in Arnav's arms and he was hugging her tightly.
"Oh, Di? You need anything...?" Arnav asked.
"I came to say, uh...that..." She decided, that now was not the right time to ask questions...Besides, she had lots of work to do tomorrow...
"I came to say goodnight Chhotey." Anjali said finally.
Arnav was perpelxed. "But you already-"
"What, can't your sister bid you goodnight twice if she wants to?" she grinned, and left.
Arnav sighed with relief. Then he turned to Khushi. "Khushi, Di is gone now..." Arnav told her. She did not respond, but she was still clinging to him.
"Khushi, you can give me your silly silent treatment and all, but-" Arnav started, but then he heard very gentle and soft snores. She had fallen asleep! In his arms! He didn't know why, but at that moment, he wanted to make the most of this opportunity. Forgetting everything, if only for that moment, he hugged her close and fell asleep with the feel of her hair under his chin.
-Next Day: HOLI-
5:45 am
Khushi had not moved from the circle of his arms since last night. Arnav woke first, and stared at her sleeping face. Her cheeks were tear streaked. He was surprised to see that overnight, her cheeks had gained a little bit of lost color... She looked so innocent in her sleep...His hears told him that she WAS and IS innocent...Argh! There it was again...! The battle of heart and mind! He slowly lay Khushi down to sleep but as he turned to go he felt a tug at his collar; her hand was curled around his shirt's collar. Biting down a lump in his throat, he uncurled her fingers and went to the bathroom.
6:15 am
When Khushi awoke in his bed, she was shocked. Laad Governor had let her sleep! Strange! And stranger that when she was not able to sleep a wink, she had fallen into a deep sleep next to him...Shaking her head, she went ahead to get ready...
6:45 am
When she went down, everyone was busy; there plates of colors and bhaang ingredients, Khushi noticed with apprehension. She shook her head. She went to the kitchen and prepared breakfast. While serving, Anjali said, "Khushiji, could you please come with me to the market? I need to buy few things."
"Ok Anjaliji." Khushi replied.
After breakfast, Anjali and Khushi left to the market. ( at about 7:30 am)
-At the Market-
9:12 am
Khushi walked behind Anjali, feeling exhausted. Did Anjaliji always shop so much? Then she saw some gol gappe... She called to Anjali. "Anjaliji, I am hungry. Let's eat some pani puri..."
Anjali's eyes widened in alarm. "No Khushiji, its not hygienic!" With that, Anjali walked on.
Khushi sighed and followed.
10:05 am
She saw a shop selling tins of coke and Lay's chips. "Anjaliji, atleast coke and chips?!"
"No No Khushiji! We don't have time...Let's go..."
-After the market trip-
RM-
11:11 am
Anjali saw Khushi's face pale and drained; she felt bad that she did not let Khushi eat anything out...Few more minutes Khushiji! Anjali thought...She was satisfied that she had succeeded in not making Khushi eat anything.
"Anjaliji, I-I am going t-to l-lie down..." Khushi said, and began to climb upstair very slowly.
I am so sorry Khushiji! But this is necessary... Anjali rushed to the kitchen, and began preparing what she had decided on yesterday...
Now, we wait for Chhotey... Anjali thought...Today, she would get answers...!
5 minutes later, Arnav walked in... Anjali rushed to him, with a glass in her hand.
"Di, I don't want-"
Anjali cut him off. "For Khushiji. A glass of milk. She had not had anything since morning." Anjali replied, and went away handing the glass to Arnav and walking away before being questioned further, hoping Chhotey wouldn't hang around for too long up there.
Arnav sighed, and went upstair with the glass of milk. Khushi was lying in on her back on the recliner, a sickly shade of grey. Arnav saw that, and immediately, rushed to her with the milk.
"Khushi, drink this." he said holding out the glass to her.
Forgetting everything except her hunger, she grabbed the glass and began to drink the milk, giving Arnav the idea of exactly how hungry she was. At the last sip, her face contorted into a confused frown. Something about the milk was not right. She smelt the glass frowning, as Arnav watched her amusedly. What was she doing?...
The smell hit Khushi... It couldn't be! Then she had a hiccup, confirming her suspicion. Anger over powered confusion... "Mr. Arnav Singh *hiccup* Raizada! Since when did *hiccup* you have the right to *hiccup* mix bhaang in my *hiccup* *hiccup* drink!"
Pardon the length of update again... *sorry* :) (:
