Part 20
Arnav said, "Khushi, come with me!", and caught hold of her hand. She jumped up from her seat, and ran out of the room after him. Payal & Akash looked at them in amazement. One moment they had been sitting next to them, the next, they had vanished!
Arnav led Khushi into her bedroom & locked the door. She was standing near the bed. He walked up to her.
She giggled. "Arnavji, we look so funny. Covered in this yellow paste!"
Arnav smiled seeing her laugh. "Haan. You have more of it than I do.", he teased. "I can't see you behind all that haldi."
"Acha?", she narrowed her eyes. And did what he had been gasping for her to do.
She moved swiftly to him, caught him by his hand, and pushed him against the bedpost. He stood there, leaning against the bedpost, innocence in his eyes, helplessness in his stance, mentally begging her to attack him at the earliest. And Khushi, like the wish-fulfilling goddess that she was for him, placed her hands on the bedpost, locking him in place, preventing him from moving. Not that he wanted to. But she didn't know that.
She moved close to him so that just an inch or so of air separated their bodies. Their heart beats picked up their pace, thudding in unison. Their breathing became rushed, their eyes locked. She leaned forward, and closing that leftover inch, rested fully against him and brought her face to his. Slowly, she rubbed her left cheek against his left one, transferring her excess haldi to his.
(Chowna, Chowna, Chowna!)
Halfway through, she forgot why she had touched his cheek with hers, enjoying the unique feel of his rough cheek against her soft one. The stubble felt nice. Men were made different from women, she mused, looking at the cheek she had just caressed with hers. She took a peek at his eyes. Heat emanated from them, scorching her skin. His eyes were focused on her, his head, his heart, and his body were all at her feet.
(Chowna, baby, thanx!)
Almost automatically, Khushi leaned into him again, bringing her right cheek against his right one, savouring the feel of him against her. The haldi was just an excuse. His body felt so strong, so hard, so hot against her softer one... She pressed herself closer to him, determined to enjoy herself fully.
(Chowna, I thank u, dammit!)
The road to discovery that Khushi had started on was torture to Arnav. He tightened his hold on the wooden railing of the bed, ordering his hands to keep away from her till the night when he could ravish her to his, no, their satisfaction.
(Mariam_Sultan, thanx!)
"Titliyaa, Arnav Bitwaa!", Buaji called. "Come and wash away the haldi. The taps will be dry in 20 minutes."
Khushi frowned. Wash away? What? Haldi? She looked into Arnavji's face with dazed eyes, seeing the yellow paste. Oh! They were both dipped in it, and it had to be washed off.
They joined the long line outside the bathroom. At the end of 20 minutes, only they were left. The rest of their families had cleaned themselves up, and the water, after reducing itself to a trickle, had decided to say 'Bye Bye' like Mamiji till the evening. All laughed seeing the bride & groom standing covered in the yellow mixture.
Khushi said, "Arnavji, at this time, we can get water only from two places in this street. One is Happyji's garage. And the other is the hand pump in the middle of the road. Where would you like to wash off?"
Paling at the thought of washing himself in the middle of the street, he said, "Happyji's garage."
"The garage is closed today.", she said happily. "Happyji always leaves the key with us so that we can use the tap if necessary." She ran to get his bunch of keys & a dry towel, and dragging Arnav by the arm, led him to the garage across the street.
Arnav felt odd using someone's premises in his absence. He asked mildly, "Are you sure that he won't mind?"
Khushi frowned at him. "Why should Happyji mind? He is my friend.", she said proudly.
"Really?"
"Ji. We play cricket together in the evenings, and I make him samosas and jalebis."
Arnav remembered watching her carry a plate of samosas to Happyji.
"Oh! He is your samosa friend!"
"He will come for our wedding this evening. I will introduce you to him.", she promised Arnav this treat as she led him to the tap at one corner of the garage.
Arnav smiled.
She made him stand close to the sink, and like a mother cleaning the hands of her toddler, she held his arms in the flow of water and scrubbed at them. He stood watching her, fascinated by this child-woman. She kept on chatting about how Happyji had taught her to change the tyre of a car, how he had promised to teach her to drive, how he had taken her around Delhi in his junk of a rickshaw that no one else dared to touch for fear of the rust...
She wet a corner of the towel and wiped his face clean. Then his neck. He was finally free of the haldi. Now it was her turn. Or rather his.
He swiped the towel off her hand, and placed it aside. He led her to stand in front of the sink, and standing behind her, brought her hands forward and under the tap. He enjoyed every moment of scrubbing her arms clean, his hot breath falling against her ear, loving her heavy breathing, the faint trembling he could feel in her body...
He turned her towards him, and gently began wiping her face clean with a wet corner of the towel. She looked at him, her open eyes revealing her love for him, her desire for him, her need to be held in his arms... Just a few more hours, his eyes promised her silently. Then nobody could stop them. They would be married.
He gave her neck the last swipe, locked the workshop, and led her back home, holding her hand in his.
"The love-birds have come homewaa from the garagewaa!", Mami laughed.
Anjali said, "Chotey, it is time to go home. You and Akash need to rest in the noon so that you are fresh and ready for your weddings. Khushiji, Payalji, I am sorry to be taking them away!", she giggled.
Arnav & Akash blushed. Payal & Khushi hid their smiles.
"Hai re Nandkisore, the girls need to rest too!", teased Buaji.
"Haan, Madhumatiji! The evening is going to be long and ardous for the four of them.", laughed Nani.
"The night too, Saasumma!", Mami added, laughing out aloud.
The two families delighted in teasing the brides & grooms till they had to leave.
