Amazing...
"Nervous?" Rey asked when they met the next day.
Kriya turned around to see him. She had been looking into the mirror before he had entered the locker room. She smirked, playing flirtatiously. "You're not supposed to be in here."
"Oh, and who's going to report me? You wouldn't and other than the two of us, there isn't one person in this building."
She took a step towards him, chuckling, "You can't be sure I wouldn't."
It was not his turn to laugh at her challenge and took a step forward towards her. "Can't I be?" They were just a foot of a distance away from each other. Both played with their eyes, gazing, glaring, admiring, and flirting - all at once. Rey took his hand out of his front pocket and forwarded it towards her face. She closed her eyes in anticipation. All through-out their rehearsals, there was one thing she could be sure of - the affect his touch had on her.
"Rey..." She reopened her eyes to look into him. She knew she had to stop him.
"Shh." He brushed his thumb over his lips, shushing her protest. A second later, when she didn't protest again, he leaned in to kiss her.
"Kriya!" Rey yelled out over the commotion of last minute preparations.
Kriya snapped out of her fantasy land. She sighed, angered at herself for even thinking about it. "In here." She called out from the locker room. "Just a minute." Rey waited for her outside, knowing he couldn't enter girls' locker room.
Inside, Kriya adjusted her jewelry, which in reality were gadgets she would need to keep in touch with Karan and Shilpa and for her mission. She hid the wires properly underneath her dress. Checking herself once in the mirror, she took a deep breath. Now was the moment that actually mattered.
As she started to pack the remaining in her bag, she found the necklace that was her dad's. It was the last thing she had of him - her lucky charm. She put it on and sent a silent prayer, hoping he would have been there with her today. If you were alive, my life would've been different. She could've had a normal life. A life where she could have friends, where she did not always have to look over her back, not have to worry about breaking someone's heart, not have to play with emotions. Weighing the cons, she knew there was one pro that could balance out unlimited cons - Karan. He was the one person she wouldn't trade against anything she wanted.
It was taking her longer and seeing everyone emptying the locker room, Rey decided to enter, not worrying about getting caught. As he saw her, her eyes were closed and a soft tear flowing down her cheek. "Kriya?" he softly called out to her out of concern. She quickly wiped her tear and turned around, pretending to be taken aback at his sudden appearance, as her instincts had kicked in and she knew someone was walking towards her.
She put on a teasing smile. "You shouldn't be in here." Actually playing out her fantasy, though knowing that in reality, she would never let it end the way it had. He would never kiss her. Her self-control was stronger in reality than in her dreams and fantasies.
He was worried about her more than about where he shouldn't be. "Are you okay?"
She nodded and proceeded to sit down. He sat down besides her. "I should have told you this before." She gulped down her fears and he waited for her to continue. "I have to go back to London."
To Rey, it felt as if the life was sucked out of him. "When?" He managed to choke the words out, trying to be strong.
"In a day or two."
"Why?" Rey asked, looking down at the ground. The thought of her leaving was eating him alive. She stayed mum. It didn't surprise him. "You know what I love about you the most? The way you're always mysterious. You say the truth and yet, you hide everything. It's like I know you... yet, I do not know you at all! I can't decide if I admire you for that or if I'm frustrated because of that"
She smiled, knowing very well it was true. Once upon a time, she used to say the same thing to Karan. Only, by now, she had learned to read him. The sad thing was: Rey would never have the time to learn to read her. She was leaving and if things went as per plan, she would never seen him again. This night will be our last. She thought.
It was a different topic, but she simply felt like asking, "I still have a lot to learn, right?" He nodded, knowing she was talking about her zero knowledge about boys and able to comprehend her feelings, whether it be towards friends, or towards someone more.
"Someone else will teach you, if not me." He hated the thought of it. Yet, he said it. He couldn't live in the fantasy where he could believe she would stay back just for him. He knew she would leave one day. She had never mentioned moving to India for good. He didn't expect her to stay back. He very well knew where her life was - back in London. Somewhere, he couldn't help but wonder if it was because of Karan that she was leaving suddenly. He never did get around to asking her more about him. "We're getting late." He got up to leave before he lost his control over his emotions. Kriya slipped her hand in his, stopping him in his track. With one look at her sad face, he melted down. She got up and let go of his hand, knowing he wouldn't go anywhere.
He let her stand up and take a step closer to him. For a second, he thought she was going to hug him. In reality, she was going to too. She wanted to. She caught herself just before she would though. Looking down at herself, she removed her dad's necklace from around her neck and taking his hand, placed it in his. "It's the only thing I have of him I want you to have it."
Reyansh immediately knew 'him' meant her father. He shook his head. "I can't." knowing it must be priceless for her if it was the only thing of his she possessed.
"Please..." She closed his hand into a fist, shutting her eyes to control her tears. She had never felt such strongly for anyone else. She couldn't decide if it was because this was her first mission and this was the first guy she was meeting that she wasn't kicking ass of during training. She couldn't decide if it was because of a crush or if she truly felt something real for him. She just couldn't. A volcano was erupting within her and there was nothing anyone could do to about it. She wasn't able to calm it, quite it, or make it go back to its hibernation. It was awakened and that was it.
He commented. "I'll never be able to understand you." She sniffed.
"Take care of yourself. And yea, make sure Sharon and Swayam finally do confess their feelings to each other." She turned away from him as she said it. She left his hand to leave but he pulled her back resulting in her back crashing into his chest. Her eyes shut and heart beat increased rapidly.
"What about your feelings?" he whispered in her ear. She shivered at the proximity and slowly turned around, gathering her composure. His hands stilled around her and her hands rested on his chest; for there was nowhere else she could rest them while being trapped within his arms.
It took a lot for her to say it, but she did, knowing there was no other way out of it. "You're a friend I'll always remember." She told him, hoping he'd take her as a friend and move on, hoping her tone and looks were convincing enough, hoping they wouldn't betray her, hoping all the time she'd spent on her training and learning would come to use right in this moment.
A friend? He thought and pushed back the scoff that was about to emerge. His hold around her loosened and his hands dropped beside him. What else was he supposed to do after this? Taking the opportunity, she left - taking her unsaid feelings for him with her, trapped within her, vowing to never let a second person have a glance at them, vowing no one would ever find out, vowing she would never again get personal in any of her further missions. It was futile to vow, for she had a feeling she wouldn't have such feelings against for anyone else; nevertheless, she needed to do it to convince herself - to set a limit for herself.
He let her go, unable to bear that she called him a friend only so he wouldn't say anything that would force her to stay back. For a second, he had considered kissing her, telling her. She was just so close to him. He was willing to do anything to not have her leave, but he pushed the silly thought away knowing from her expression that it could never be. Just something about it gave it away. Maybe it was the way she was trying so hard to be cold towards him. Maybe. He'd never know. Somewhere along the way from when they first met, he had figured out there was a lot she was hiding from everyone.
From him.
From everyone.
From herself.
Her life was a closed book and she wouldn't let anyone in. Somewhere, he felt like he had managed to enter her life and at other times, she would push him away. His heart broke into pieces in that moment, only for him to know he had to gather himself. Why did I fall for you? Why do I love you? Why did it happen?

**In Lamhon ke daaman mein Dance**
Their last dance together. It was unbearable for both of them to keep their emotions hidden from each other. Swayam and Sharon both noticed their eyes, which were constantly being threatened by tears they fought so very hard to push back.
"It's not my imagination, is it?" Sharon whispered to him.
He shook his head. "Not if I'm seeing the same thing." If it was any other day and any other moment, she would have taken offense. However, seeing the grave situation, she held back her comment. "Did he say anything to you?" He asked, without pausing after his previous reply.
She shook her head in a no. As soon as both of them exited the stage from different sides, Sharon went to stop Kriya and Swayam to Rey.
"Kriya? Are you crying?" Sharon questioned observing her face, after congratulating her for her brilliant performance.
Kriya put on a forced smile. "No, why would I cry?"
"You're lying." Sharon grabbed her by her upper arm as Kriya tried to walk in front of her. Sharon went to face her, questioning with her eyes.
Kriya gulped down her tears. "I know you don't like taking advice from anyone, but listen to me. He's a person you want to hold on to. Love like his don't come around often. Not everyone's lucky. You are." She cupped Sharon face as she said it, looking upon her one last time. Somewhere, she felt a tiny bit of envy, for Sharon's life was simple and not complicated like hers. She could have the one who loved her dearly and whom she loved as well. All she had to do was take the first step. But with her? Even if she wished, she could not. There was too much at stake for Kriya to think about self in such a moment. Gathering it all within her, one last time, glancing towards Rey slyly, she turned back to look at Sharon. Sharon looked behind Kriya where Swayam was talking to Rey. She knew Kriya was right. "Don't ignore him for silly reasons such as hierarchy of college life." Sharon opened her mouth to object but she continued immediately, "And don't say that's not the reason because that's bullshit." Saying all she wanted to in just few sentences, Kriya kissed Sharon's forehead before hugging her.
A farewell it was.
Sharon did not realize when Kriya slipped out of her hands and left. Kriya's words were the only thing playing on repeat in her head, coming to a realization. She blinked when Swayam shook her, to see Kriya wasn't in front of her any longer. "Did she say anything?" He questioned.
"What?" She was still ablaze. "No, she didn't. Did he?"
Swayam shook his head in a negative. "Where'd she go?"
"I- I don't know. She just - left."
"Are you okay?" Swayam got worried seeing this Sharon in front of him. She never fumbled and she never blanked out to a point where she wouldn't have realized a person passed by her and she had no idea.
Their names were announced and so, having no choice, both took their positions on stage.
The event must go on.
Kriya entered the audience to keep an eye on Khushboo. Shilpa had eyes on Rey while Karan operated from the van just outside. Rey wasn't in the mood to watch remaining of the performances. To get fresh air, he went out towards the basketball court. Shilpa followed but at a distance, so he would not notice and she could still be able to keep an eye out on him. Kriya's eyes flickered towards Shilpa as she saw her move from her spot. Just a second later, she turned back to glue her eyes back on Khushboo, only to find her missing. She pushed through the crowd in search of her, maintaining her composure..
After couple of quick glances through the perimeter, she cursed, "Damn it!" Turning the intercom on, she alerted both Karan and Shilpa. "I've lost her."
"I'm going to Rey.' Shilpa replied and came out from her hideout to walk towards Rey. "Rey! What are you doing outside?"
Rey turned at the voice. "Ma'am, nothing. Just fresh air." He shot at the loop but missed the basket.
"Disturbed?"
"Nothing as such." Rey replied, finding it awkward taking to a teacher. On the contrary, Shilpa knew just the reason behind his upset mood. She was sure Kriya had said her good-byes to him, seeing the necklace around his neck.
"That's a pretty necklace." She commented, drawing his attention to it. "Where'd you get it?"
"A friend I once knew." He held it around his fingers.
Shilpa couldn't help but sympathize. She had seen the chemistry the two of them shared. If not for the wretched duty, Kriya could have had her life. "People come and go from our life before we even realize." She could connect herself to the situation perfectly. She hadn't realized she was still connected to the intercom and both Karan and Kriya were listening.
Rey's voice was faint but even in the faint volume, Kriya could spot the pain in it and held herself responsible. Hearing a movement behind her, she casually pulled out her phone to use it as a mirror and look behind her. Spotting the silver handgun Khushboo was holding pointing towards Rey, she casually bent down to grab the gun hidden inside her boots, which ended just an inch below her knee, and walked silently around the bushes.
As expected, she spotted her. Holding her at gun point on her temple, she spoke. "Drop your weapon." At being caught, Khushboo did and turned around, surrendering hands behind her.
Kriya heard a gun shot and turned towards Shilpa and Rey, shocked. Taking the opportunity, Khushboo kicked the gun out of Kriya's hands. Bringing her attention back at hand, Kriya blocked Khushboo's next attack and gracefully hit the pulse where her neck met her shoulder. Khushboo winced in pain and Kriya put her off balance, where she went down on her knees. Knowing she had spare moments before Khushboo would regain her strength, she turned to see Rey and Shilpa missing.
Kriya pulled Khushboo up to her feet and pulled her towards the van where Karan waited. "You should go back inside for now." He told her taking Khushboo in.

The whole group was at Rey's house consoling his parents. The police had already arrived, questioning everyone. Kriya was worried. According to plan, Rey was supposed to have come home safe, but he was missing. She had no idea what happened after she went back in. She excused herself to call Karan but he wouldn't answer the phone.
She turned to see the ACP standing right behind her. He gave her a look before walking around her. "Aunty, don't worry. I'm sure he's fine." Kriya comforted Aarti. Aarti had made everyone go home. The only people left were his parents, ACP, few deputy's and Kriya.
"Shouldn't you get home too?" ACP questioned her.
Kriya looked up at him but didn't answer. "I'll get you some food." She told Aarti and left for the kitchen. ACP wondered about her relationship to the family. Every time he'd seen, kids would be scared under such situation, but he found Kriya's calming nature rather confusing.
Inside the kitchen, she tried calling Karan again.
Shilpa picked up. "Where is he?!" She was asking about Rey. But before Shilpa could reply, she heard shuffling behind her and ended the call. "I have some questions for you." The ACP talked to Kriya after she handed Aarti her dinner and tried to make her eat. "You're Reyansh's friend?"
Kriya nodded. "Yes, I've already told you that, so have others."
"Your accent -"
"British. I'm just visiting India for a couple of months." She told him.
"So you just know Rey since..?" he waited, as if it were a 'Fill in the Blank' question.
"A couple of weeks."
"Isn't it just a bit surprising that you've grown so close to the family in just weeks?"
"What are you implying officer?" Aarti questioned, coming up from behind.
"I'm just looking at this kidnapping from all angles, that's all."
"It'd make a difference if you stopped questioning his friends and tried to locate him instead!" She yelled at him. "Suspecting his friends is pointless. They are his friends, not the enemy." She was blunt in her response. Who could blame her? Her son was missing and she was seeing no prompt action being taken so far. All she wanted was for Reyansh to return home safely and everything to go back to normal. If only. If only she knew that nothing would ever 'go back to normal'. She couldn't beat the thought of losing her son forever. She wanted him back, at any cost.
He stopped questioning, seeing Aarti was getting upset with him questioning Kriya. His suspicions had not vanished. He still questioned Kriya and her intentions.

"Where am I? Let me go!" Rey yelled out, hoping someone or the other was listening to him. He was in the dark room and the last thing he remembered was the gun shot.
"Do we really need to do this? We have her in our hold." Shilpa questioned Karan when he came out.
Rey could hear whispered voices outside the room. "I know you're there!" He continued to speak loudly, hoping one of them would get irritated and walk in. "I can here you!" Maybe then, he'd be able to knock them out and escape. He had picked up fighting tricks here & there during silly fights all throughout school life.
Karan pulled Shilpa away from the door. "It's best he stay here for now. Someone out there still wants him dead."
"What are you talking about? Khushboo's- Why's she not tied up?" Shilpa changed her statement to a question when Khushboo walked in the room. Free.
Karan spoke cutting her off. "She's not the killer."
"She had a gun in her hand pointing at Rey!' Kriya spoke up, entering the room. She had been trained very well to catch on to the situation very quickly & act upon it.
"Yes, I had a gun. But not pointing at Rey. I was pointing it at the shooter on the other side of Rey, before you had to butt in." Khushboo snapped back.
Kriya and Shilpa were confused. Karan glared at Khushboo, for the tone she used towards Kriya. Noticing Kriya obviously meant a lot to him, she calmed her anger and explained how she worked undercover for the Crimes branch and they were out looking for a contract serial killer, who according to their information, had Rey on his hit-list next. "So basically, you've been wasting your time following me." She concluded.
"Well why is Rey tied up then inside?"
"What? He's here?" Kriya stood up.
"Because he can't know it's us. Right now, he's safest here only. I'm sure the police have been alerted by now and everyone's looking for him."
"We should at least tell Mr. Singhania?" Shilpa suggested.
Karan shook his head. "No, that might endanger his life as well. The less he knows the better. Even the person behind this all doesn't know Rey's with us. That gives us a plus point."
"Is ANYONE listening to themselves?! Karan, our mission is to keep him safe - not hold him captive like this! He's a victim and we are no kidnappers!" Kriya blasted on him, evidently angry at Karan for doing this & at others for completely ignoring this and being so nonchalant about the situation. Have they no feelings? She wondered, but answered the question herself. Ofcourse they didn't. They were agents, not humans. The harsh truth infuriated her. Her comment being ignored by all further irked her.
Shilpa could see right through Karan. "You knew everything all along didn't you? You knew Khushboo wasn't the one we're looking for."
Kriya was stunned hearing this piece of news. "Karan?" She questioned when he looked away.
He couldn't lie to her, not to Kriya. "Yes, I did."
"That's why you already had a car in front for me and Rey and asked me to bring him here." It all made sense to Shilpa then as she spoke.
Kriya couldn't help but be mad at Karan. "I thought this was our mission. Not just yours."
"Kriya, listen to me. I couldn't tell you."
"Enough with your 'better if I didn't know' excuses. I'm not a kid anymore!" She stormed up to her room.
Shilpa gave him the -You still think you should go ahead with your little revenge plan?- look. Karan sighed, hating the fact that she may be right.
"I'll let you know if I find anything." Khushboo left feeling out-of-place in what seemed to be a family fall-out, because of this one mission. She, for one, did not want to be sucked into the middle of it all. For once in life, she was happy being an outsider.
***
Next morning, Kriya left without answering to Karan who tried to make her listen to him. She went straight to Rey's house. She did not care that she had promised Karan that after the performance night, she would keep no contact with anyone she knew while on this mission. That was a promise she had made to Karan before he went off on his own and decided to kidnap Rey. After finding out, she was too pissed off at him to keep true to her promises. She believed, the promise no longer stayed valid - given his lie.
Reaching there, she found out about a ransom call and that the unit was preparing to catch the person secretly while following Mr. Singhania. She knew it was of no use - since even after the ransom money is paid, there would be no Rey coming back. She knew exactly where he was and who his kidnapper was. And that was not the person Mr. Singhania was going to meet to give the money to safely bring his son home.
She also knew that if the person behind all of this is a powerful man, he would have considered the possibility of the police following Mr. Singhania and would have made plans accordingly.
Kriya called Shilpa to let her know as she refused to talk to Karan. "Congratulations, your plan went successful." She passed a sarcastic comment when she informed Karan about what Kriya told her.
"I did what I had to!" He exasperated in his defense.
"Yes, but you could have told us about it. I understand if telling me holds no importance to you. Whatever was between us was past, but her? Last I checked, she still mattered to you. If that equation has changed, do enlighten me about it. And if it has not changed, you could've been honest to her. She is not wrong. It IS both of yours mission. Only because you are her senior does not mean you take decisions without informing her, let alone take her consideration & opinion. Why would you, though, right? We mean nothing to you. I knew I meant nothing to you - but her?"
He hated having the two people he cared about upset with him. Especially when he knew neither of them were wrong in being angry at him. He wasn't going to admit it to anyone though. He pulled her closer to him in a split second. "You know that's a lie." He gritted, hoping she'd understand that not only Kriya, but she too meant a great deal to him.
She could see the pain in his eyes - the guilt. It was only visible for a split of a fraction second. Looking towards the ground, she jerked his hands away and silently left after saying, "Carry on with your plan. Good luck. And Rey is not a prisoner. Give him something to eat." He ran a frustrated hand through his hair.
