Surrounding Shadow
Prologue
The man pointed the gun directly at the forehead of the target.
"Do you want to die?"
He knew the answer already but the fear that ignited in the target gave him satisfaction. "I-I- N-n-no. No."
"Really?"
He put the gun down and pretended to think.
"Let me see. You don't want to die but you enjoy targeting people, torturing them and killing them off like pieces off a chess game."
"I-I-I never meant to. I promise I never-"
The man's harsh laugh drowned down the targets plea.
"You never meant to? Well, then I never meant to do this."
The man slammed the back of the gun on the targets nose. There was a crunch and blood poured down immediately after that.
The targets scream echoed in the empty cabin.
"Shut up."
The target continued to scream. "I said shut up or I'll do worse."
The target instantly quieted and bit its tongue to keep from even whimpering.
"Good boy. Now tell me the truth. Why did you do it?"
"I bibn't to it ob by own."
"Speak clearly. It was your nose not your mouth I broke."
The target took a deep breath but he ended up coughing and spurting out blood instead.
The man made an annoyed sound and said, "Stop wasting my time and speak."
The target knew better than to expect some kind of sympathy from this man. He had heard rumors about him but he never expected to be the next target. He secretly feared him and knew that this man will be the one to bring him down. He just never expected it to be so soon. The target tried to clear his throat and said,
"I-I-I didn't do it on my own. There w-were other p-p-people involved. I could g-give you t-" The man was suddenly in the targets face and whispered,
"Do I look like a fool?"
"N-n-no. I just wanted to help."
"Its funny isn't it? You want to help when death is only a minute away from you."
"Without m-m-me you're... not going to get the names."
"The names aren't important. Your death on the other hand that is most defiantly important."
"NO! NO! YOU CAN'T KILL ME! I WON'T LET YOU."
The target struggled against the restraints but it was useless. They were too tight, a perfect fit for the target. After all the man was too smart for making a small rookie mistake. The man straightened and the gun was back on the targets head.
He knew he was about to die and knew it was unavoidable.
"The n-names-"
"You're a fool. I have all the names. Every last bit."
"Than why am I h-here?"
"To die."
The only sound that echoed in the cabin was a gunshot than footsteps leaving to report back to the superior.
37 hours later
Headquarters
Arnav put his glock 23 back in his holster located at his waist. He was done with his debriefing and was heading back to his hotel room in about an hour or so.
"Hey. You done?"
Arnav didn't look up at Charles as he answered, "Yeah."
He moved to get his backpack with all his different identification cards and extra pair of clothes.
"You should have at least freshened up before debriefing. You look like hell man."
"I didn't have time."
Charles chuckled and said, "Their right. You are way too serious."
Arnav finally looked at Charles. The man was draped over the sofa casually and had an easy going grin covering his lips.
His hair was light brown and was messed up as if he had just woken up from sleeping.
His blue eyes were amused and gave a laidback look as if he was harmless. It was all a lie. There was nothing harmless about him. Charles had probably noticed everything about the room and what was in it as soon as he had entered.
He would have already calculated what could be the worst case scenario that could take place in here and an exit plan with the least injury to him.
Arnav couldn't blame the man for doing that because they were trained that way and it was automatic to both of them. After all Arnav had did the same without even thinking about it.
Arnav stood there without any emotion in his eyes and an expression craved out of stone. No one could guess what he was thinking.
"I'm not serious."
Charles stared at Arnav and then burst out laughing.
Arnav ignored him and moved to get water from the small refrigerator that was in the corner of the room. He was thirsty.
He hadn't eaten or drank anything for 2 days. He took out the water bottle and drank in under a minute. He moved to leave but was stopped by Charles.
"God. Don't ever say I'm serious with that face. I haven't laughed like this since forever."
Arnav didn't say anything. "Hey. You're not mad or anything right Arnav?"
"About what?"
"Nothing."
Arnav turned around and said, "I must tell you something though."
Charles looked at Arnav warily and said, "What?"
"There was a blonde looking for you. Someone you had a date with yesterday but it turned out to be something more."
Charles sat up in a blink of an eye.
"Did you tell her?"
Charles was actually looking scared.
"Yeah I did."
Charles stood up and said, "What the hell."
Arnav's expression didn't change as he said, "I was being a good friend. Helping you out."
"The hell you were."
" Anyways she'll be here in about 3 minute tops."
Arnav turned around and opened the door.
"I won't forgive you Arnav. Ever. Damn."
"Good bye Charles. Good luck."
He heard Charles groan.
Revenge was sweet.
