The Regret
Just as he was about to leave the house to go visit Kripa, the bell rang. He slowly walked to the door and opened it, shocked to find Kripa standing there. He moved away after a moment to let her in. She slowly walked in looking everywhere except at him.
"Angad, I only came here to tell you something." She stated, her back to him. Before she could continue, Angad spoke up.
"First let me speak, Kripa! I want to apologize. I never wanted to hurt you. Of course I've always wanted to become a father but I'm scared. I'm scared that I'll be a terrible father. I don't want to ruin an innocents life, Kripa. But I also want you to know that I've fallen in love with you. I love you very much." He mumbled staring at the ground, waiting for her to reply.
Kripa just stood there, shocked to the core. She had nothing to say in return. He loved her. That was something she had waited to hear from him for years. Now that he had, she wasn't happy.
"All i wanted was for you to give our child one chance. You could've at least let our child enter our life first before deciding whether you were a good father or a terrible father." Kripa replied, choosing to ignore the 'i love you' for the time being. She took a deep breath and turned around to face him. He stood silently, staring at her with his tormented light brown eyes.
"I aborted the child Angad. And for that, I blame you. You killed our child Angad Khanna. I'll never forgive you for this. Ever. I hope we never see each other again. Goodbye." She blurted out staring him right in the eye before turning on her heel and heading towards the door.
"Kripa!" Angad called just as she reached for the handle. She froze.
"You could've talked me first." He snapped, angry for some reason. He was the one who had said he didn't want the child. Why did it bother him that she had aborted the child? Possibly because she considered him the killer of their child.
Kripa turned around with eyes, blazing in anger.
"You didn't want the child! I felt no need to ask you what I should do with the child. You had already abandoned it! Don't you dare use that against me now Khanna." Kripa warned him, seething.
"I didn't want the child because you were using the child to separate my father and i!" Kripa's mouth dropped open at the accusation.
"You're sick. Why on Earth would i do that? Oh, of course. Rishi Khanna told you and you believed it, blindly. This blind faith you have in your father, Angad.. is going to screw you over very bad some day. I promise you that." Kripa remarked, turning to the door and storming out.
Angad stood there for a couple minutes trying to register everything that had just happened. Abortion. Blind faith. Shaking his head, he walked to the living and sat down with his head in his hands. What was he going to do? Just when he had thought he had finally figured out his life, it had gotten much more complicated. He had thought he'd go to Kripa, tell her he loved her, and bring her back but he had completely forgotten to include his father in the equation. There was no way Kripa would get along with his father and that, he couldn't tolerate. Trying to distract himself, he turned the TV on. As he flicked through the channels, his mind kept wandering back to Kripa and the abortion until he stopped at a news channel spotting his father's picture on the screen.
"Rishi Khanna, father of the renowned British laywer, Angad Khanna found in an apartment in the ghetto area of London, ODed. According to sources, the police had also discovered meth and ecstasy in the apartment along with a bundle of cash." Angad's hand tightened around the remote as he read the headlines flashing on the screen.
"The money has been withdrawn from Angad Khanna's account as proven through a receipt found in the envelope the cash was hidden in." Angad rubbed his face, recalling withdrawing cash for his father a week ago. Rishi had told him it was an emergency and he needed the money for some investment he wanted to make. So he had lied. Angad turned the TV off disgusted realizing that his father had not only got himself in trouble but also Angad. Moments later, the doorbell rang and he was pretty sure of who was at the door.
There, in front of him, stood the police. The three officers walked right in surrounding him with electronics out, ready to take notes.
"Mr. Khanna?" Officer William Hemsworth spoke. Angad nodded.
"We're here to inform you that your father is in the hospital. He overdosed on drugs this morning. Please be aware that as soon as the doctor gives us the green signal, charges will be flashed on Rishi Khanna immediately. We also found illegal substances in his residence hidden along with cash money which has been withdrawn from your account as proven through this receipt." The Officer explained pulling the piece of paper out. Angad sighed nodding once again.
"I saw the news. I did withdraw that money for my father but i had no idea what he was using it for. He told me he needed it for some investment. Since he's my father, i didn't bother going into too much detail and gave him the money. " The Officer nodded clearly still not satisfied with Angad's answer.
"You had no idea your father had anything to do with drugs? We've found out that this isn't the first time you've given your father such a large amount of money." The Officer inquired staring at Angad.
"Yes I have given my father money before. But as i've said before, I had no idea my father was using that money to buy drugs or continue his drug dealing business. I am no way connected to any of this." Angad insisted shaking his head. "I'm a reputable lawyer. I have no reason to engage in such illegal activities." The Officers stared at each other before nodding and thanking him. Angad watched them open the door and leave. He felt numb. What the heck was going on?
