If it was all Lalitha, why didn't he come clean to her then, why didn't he offer any explanation to her when he came too see her, all he says s 'do well' and then breaks up with her...afraid of getting tied down to her...of falling in love ??

It's never easy to bare your heart, after reading most of the comments, the only conclusion I arrive at is that, there was no confession on Abhi's part, he just was asking for a reaction. Having gotten that from Niki, he now may be able to set the record straight, provided the girl gives him a chance. She is allowed to feel the way she does, nothing wrong in it at all, she was at an impressionable age when she fell for Manu and coming to terms with it may be difficult, so what if the same person is now her husband. She liked Manu and is now married to Abhi, there is a difference folks, even for Abhi, he may think of her as Niki but she brings her Nirmala persona to the fore front always.
Whatever approach Abhi may take to resolve the issue or in this case clear the misunderstanding and let Niki know about his feeling towards here, he has been a gentleman, not forcing anything on her. He has always taken care of her feelings and ensured she is as comfortable as she can be around him, what more can that guy do, poor chap, he is in love with her, give him a break.
Note to Niki - I understand, guilty until proved innocent, give the guy a fair chance to prove his innocence, you alone stand to benefit from the outcome.
