MUDDLED THOUGHTS-
Plans always had a way of not working out. They would get muddled by another plan in the making , simplest of distractions or sometimes if luck was really not in the mood for it, then big time disasters. A simple NO had ruined her life effectively.
"NO you are not going to work anymore and YES you do have to get hitched within this family."
End of discussion. End of her life. End of her career.
Khushi Kumari Gupta , a charming girl of 26 did not have an option. It seemed as if the man with the overgrown head would really be her husband. After all how much could one actually rebel? Clearly her not eating , locking herself up in the room and even behaving pathetically to the extent of insulting that man in the confines of her own room when they were sent to talk"to get to know each other" had not worked. What more could she do? Ironic that living in New York she was facing problems she thought only Indian girls faced. Arranged Marriage! "DAMMIT!"
She wanted to work more. Being called in the middle of the night to cover a story would get her adrenaline rushing. New stories , new people, new places and new hopes. And she would be a part of it all. She was a homicide detective. Hell, that's why she did not have time to get married. Everything happening in the country today was no less than a war according to her. There was a need to investigate everything and she wanted to be a part of it. ALL THE TIME.
Apparently the job was too difficult for a woman. What about her family life?! And now that she had already spent a good number of years doing what her what her parents called" IT WILL KILL YOU ONE DAY CASES" it was going to be enough. Yea right! She was going to do something about this situation. And she was going to have to do it soon!
"Where's Macmillan?" she echoed the question to her partners on the current case,Havier Espesitto and Colin nickenson .
Her favorite people in the world. Growing up in New York with these 2 had made it so much simpler to live life.
As far as she could recall, the 3 had always been inseparable. They knew each other since 7th grade. Something had made them click and somehow while deciding their life paths all of them had ended up choosing this field without even knowing the others opinions. Khushi personally gave the credit to all the mystery movies the 3 saw together and spent hours analyzing it later.
"K! whats wrong with you? Macmillan got out yesterday. Hes on vacation remember?"
Espesitto always knew things about khushi before she spelled them out. He could make out her mood swings like his own. And he knew something was up today.
"Did they say anything to you about your .. you know..?"
Trust Havi to know, she thought! She pulled on her hair and dropped her face into her palms.
"yes they did. Like always. But right now, please lets work this case out!.. soo what have we got so far?"
"okay well, homicide on street 52nd upper east end' Id'd the victim as a certain Paul Chard ' money intact in his wallet and car completely trashed. " Collin chipped in.. knowing nothing could get her to talk about her trouble as of now anyway. She was a girl who wanted love and was dealing with the fact that she might need to spend her life with a stranger and not work. Too much. She needed to come to terms with it first.
"okay we got the time of death?" khushi asked recalling the face of her vic .. and shuddering at the thought. It was one brutal murder.
"penny worked it out as between 10pm and 12pm last night"
"cause of death?"
"lack of oxygen.. basically strangled to death." Havi reported giving her the report penny had sent from the lab.
"hmm any relatives we know of?"
"ya a cousin ' Indian actually' arnav singh raizada"
"ok! Well what are you waiting foRR?? Call him in?"
