OS: Half Truths

Part 2

Song: Ya Rabba

Movie: Salaam-E-Ishq

Dedicated to: purplekid

Checking inside the hotel with the little luggage that he had with him, he moved in stealthily to the elevator and stood in silence as it took him to the floor where his designated room was with great force blocking out the image of her shattered face in front of him. He closed his eyes tight to escape the torture but to no avail, as it did no seem to have any motives of subsiding just now. The elevator doors flew open, and he stepped out dragging his baggage behind him, its wheel marring the pin drop silence that had prevailed around him.

Sliding his card inside the check in key slit, he opened the door and parked his luggage next to what looked like a orange colored couch, taking his seat on the one beside it, a creamish-off white shade. As he tried to make himself comfortable, he rested his back against the soft cover of the couch, keeping his head looking up at the ceiling in an attempt to free himself from the troubles that gripped his life. Almost as if enemy to his state his cell phone beeped inside his pocket. Not at all pleased, with the delirious timing, he still took out the cell phone, and checked the message of information that contained the numbers of the private agents he had earlier told his assistant to give him for. So much for efficiency. He thought to himself. Choosing the first contact he punched in the number, keeping the phone on his ear as the ring went on,

Ring one. Ring twice. Ring Thrice. Finally he heard a click as someone managed to attend the call "Sooraj Ravi", the receiver on the phone said, as Arnav addressed himself, clearly stating his designation and who he was.

"Yes Sir, I do remember handling a certain case for your company. What can I do for you?", the man asked in a casual tone to which Arnav promptly replied back, "Let me brief you on your task", he sighed, briefly explaining the agent of the kind of information he required, the people involved, their connection and every single bit of odds that tied them together.

Sooraj listened intently to Arnav as he spoke, making notes on his handy notepad, of the things and tasks that were assigned, for this particular mission. "Sir, you need not worry your work shall be done.", he remarked after having heard the entire tale, thinking it as a fairly easy task compared to high tech spying that he had done in previous years.

"How long will it take?", Arnav answered, deeply considering the time frame on his mind. Two days. He thought for the maximum. Not that he couldn't afford more, but he was trying to escape as much of complexities as possible. It was better that everything proceeded without arousing any doubts, so that he was sure of the facts that had been collected reflected upon the known truth.

"That depends of the complexity of the situation Sir. And based on your requirements I can assume it would take me at least 3 days to compile all the required information" the agent answered, mentally drawing out a mind map of the places and routes he would have to go to gather all the information.

"Alright. I set the deadline to three days. Is that fine with you?" Arnav asked back in a business like tone, eager to end this fiasco as soon as possible.

"Yes Sir.", the agent replied in a distant tone, now concerned about his time frame other then the locations, as the phone clicked off Arnav keeping his phone on the crystalline table that stood on steel pillars in front of him. Resting his head yet again against the back of the couch, his mind going wild with several thoughts. It was so easier to believe her, only if he hadn't seen that terrace hug. That had taken him completely by surprise, he had escaped into such a state of shock that it was impossible to process any rational thoughts in his mind. While a part of him yearned for her to be right, the other part, the more logical one knew, his crave held a bitter chance against the already build up facts in his mind. He only needed the last stamp of confirmation so that no doubt would ever surface on his thought ever again.

Parts of her almost having lost all hope, stepped inside the dark room of hers, which was slightly being lit up by the faint yet reflective moonlight that penetrated inside through the transparent window of their room. The bed uniformly aligned, everything in perfect order, as if it hadn't been sighted by any human activity in quite a lot of while. Tears on the brim of falling yet again, she realized she was missing him already, as she switches on the light bringing the majestic effort of the gay room before her eyes. It felt strange to be here without him, not that this was the first time, but apparently the first one when she wound't see him already sleeping or preparing to sleep just like her, circumstances deciding their position of sleep inside the room.

Kahin Tou Har Lamha Hotein Par Faryad Hain

Kisi Ki Dunya Chahat Mein Barbaad Hain

She went towards their wardrobe, and took out her night dress, quickly stepping into the bathroom to change, before memories of particular events flooded back into her mind. Once out, she went out eyeing the place where she would sleep. Involuntarily she had been moving towards the bed, but a part of her was more willing to sleep on the recliner that he so often use to sleep on. Giving up the idea of the bed she adjusted herself on the recliner, sensing the familiarity creep into her, his stored warmth inside the polyester cushions tingling her sensations, making her feel closer to his very presence. Tears ran out of her eyes, as she remembered every time she had woken up, to see him sleeping there, the first night of marriage, him in the bright orange sweater, or just last night with him still clad in his official business suit sleeping. Or maybe the time when they both had shared the same recliner, on that certain day which was meant to be a supposed honeymoon but evidently turned out nothing like that.

She tossed about on the slim recliner, her mind restless with the events at the airport. "Mat Jayein Na", she had told him in an almost pleading tone, but he hadn't cared, she could see a faint glimmer of regret and sorry in his eyes, which he failed to express yet he remained firm on his stance and did not fail to stop. "App sach mein ja rahein hain?", she had asked once again in hope that he might had just reconsidered his decision, but all such hopes were futile, as he freed his hand from her grip, clearly stating, "Haan Khushi main sach mein ja raha hun", the almost near to final words uttered by him, after which leaving her still in an entirely broken state, away to figure her own problems, inside the airport, marching away from her as the distances between them just increased.

What troubled her more, was the rush of feelings in her, something that she had kept well hidden inside her heart since a very long time, overshadowing it with her bubbly nature, or her endless talks, while her heart ached every moment to receive just a bit of love and concern from his side. He was her husband she finally decided on an answer, although unsure of the meaning herself. He had married her under harsh circumstances, made it even more clear that this was nothing more than a puppet marriage, and yet she had caught herself living in the illusion that he really was her lawful husband, husbands that women considered as male partners for eternity, somewhere the idea of him being that to her had seeped into her brain so deeply she couldn't really chuck it out now. Maybe he was just not a husband, to her just by the word, he really was her husband, someone who she emotionally had accepted as a husband.

Ya Rabba Dede Koi Jaan Bhi Agar

Dilbar Pein Hone Koi Asar

She had, had a restless night, not finding the sleep which she very much needed. Her self very much lost, she walked changed her clothes, and outside the room, to go down to the breakfast table where everybody would be waiting for her. Downstairs the entire Raizada lot was seated, and she just glumly stared at his empty seat, wishing he was still around. As Shyam took his seat, anger immediately rose in her and trying hard to swallow, she served everyone, plastering a fake smile on her face, whose bluffing nature did not escape Anjali's keen eyes.

The look in Khushi's eyes told it all, they were distant, waiting for someone, the sorrow, and feelings of emptiness reflecting in through the faade she had tried to put up in them. After breakfast was served she along with Payal cleared off the table, and avoiding any further discussion retreated to the solace of her room, wishing to spend most of her time in his absence alone. As her eyes roamed around towards the pool side, suddenly it struck her, that she should check the presence of the will papers that she had hidden earlier. Walking out she inverted all the pots to retrieve the white polythene bag in which she had wrapped the papers in, but to no avail. A lump formed in her throat, after what was a long one hour, of inverting pots and shaking the brown muddy soil out of them. Where were the papers? She tried to retrace her earlier actions all over again, gaining no success at all. Dread continued to take over her, she couldn't simply process this sudden change of discovery in her head, Where had the papers vanished into? She swallowed raw fear that was rising up her throat, had, by any chance, Shyam taken the papers?

*****************************

Next morning, he stretched himself up welcoming the dawn of new day, as he opened his eyes searching for her, almost unaware of his surrounding for a minute or two. Refreshing his memory, events of the previously day came back to him, and he shook his head at his own thoughts, which suddenly seemed to be centering her and only her presence. Needing a good bath, he walked over to his baggage and unzipped it picking out a fine suit out of it after which he zipped it back, and repositioned it to be standing. Only earlier, he had given up to the thought of a morning walk since he really couldn't afford to give out the secrecy of his presence in Delhi just now.

Secrecy. He reminded himself, he had forgotten to mention that to Aman. If that nit-wit by any chance had informed anybody about his presence, everything would go down the drain. Quickly picking his phone from the table where he had last left it, he pressed the speed dial to Aman's number who promptly received it on the sixth ring. Controlling the anger that seethed through him due to the delay, Arnav spoke to his employee in a fairly controlled tone "Aman, did you let anyone know of my phone call yesterday?" he asked almost betting on the fact in his mind, that his over efficient assistant, would have informed Aakash about it.

"Not really Sir. Although I was just about to inform that to Aakash Sir, that you are still in London", Aman answered, surprised at his boss, sudden query that too this early in the morning.

"There is no need to put up such a stunt. You understand? My presence in Delhi is supposed to remain a secret between the two of us. Clear?", Arnav said in a dominating tone, startling a flustered Aman, who was pretty disheveled with this new bit of morning orders.

"Yes Sir", he replied back after a few minutes. Years in AR, he had learned never to question the word or decisions made by Arnav Singh Raizada. They happen to always be right, and never under any kind of question, was it only wise to abide by his decisions, and do whatever he instructed them to do.

Sighing to himself, Arnav walked inside the washroom along with his basic toiletries, doing a fine balancing act maintaining all of them in his firm grip. 20 minutes later he walked out of the door, like his usual practice momentarily forgetting where he was once again his eyes searching for her all over the room. As he took in the state of his surroundings, he cursed his own retard-ness, and took out his laptop, having had already realized that unknowingly he had personally exiled himself in this desolate however well furnished five star room for the next three days.

It was 12:oo by the time his phone buzzed again, shaking him out of his silent reverie, as he attended the call, it being of the agent. "Sir, I have sent you the phone records of your two persons of interest through email. You can check them out", the agent informed deliberately avoiding the use of any specified names due to unsecured telecommunication, as the line went dead, Arnav opening his mail box on his laptop. Danmed wireless connection. And they call this a five star hotel. He scorned to himself. After almost about 45 seconds the web page opened, and he hurriedly typed in his email address and password, waiting eagerly for another 45 seconds as his mailbox opened. Double clicking, the recent mail sent, he opened the phone records and downloading the two compressed documents, studied its contents carefully.

It was Khushi's phone records that he went through first, a pretty long list of calls since last June. Her phone records seemed to be having no trace of Shyam's number, until only once or twice. She was in Lucknow at the time, he wondered. Do they know each other from back then? He went down the list confused, as his number grew more and more frequent, Their was a constant consistency in the last week of Junes records. The time she came to Delhi. He figured that out to be. He scrolled down some more, the number going more and more frequent, the time she entered AR, the more he thought of it the more the fact puzzled him. By any chance had Shyam helped her to get a job in AR? As much as he doubted the possibility, he knew it did hold a fair chance. Quickly he noted the query in his black diary that was resting just next to him. He went down some more, the calls becoming more and more frequent over a period of three to four months. The time she resigned. Became Lavanya's teacher. Entered Raizada mansion. Almost suddenly there was a jump in records, as it seemed that every other number apart from her family's landline was of Shyam's. The engagement. He recalled. Some more scrolling down with the same consistent trend, which lasted for a very short period, until all signs of his number completely, disappeared off her list. He blinked his eyes in surprise, as he went further down, no trace of his number anywhere, until only he reached the end of the list, when his eyes went shock with horror. No contact for a length of almost 5 months? How was that even possible! He strained his head to remember if something significant had happened during that time. Yes! She had come out completely shaken and leaned on him for support crying away bitterly. When he had asked if it was because of her fiance, she had just given him a helpless look and walked away.

His mind was in a complete whirlpool now, this was not helping it all. Parts of her story on the bridge still rang in his ears. Was she maybe telling the truth? The trend in the phone calls seemed to support, her claims at least. Muddled up, he went down some more, and his eyes almost jolted out of their sockets, as he saw the consistency in the calls returning again, dated for yesterday's day and the day before. "Hum kisi ko bola rahein hain, jo app ko bata dein ga key hum bekasoor hain" As far he remembered, this call was placed when he was there standing with her, was Shyam the person she intended to call? Was he going to testify her story? Why?

Arnav suddenly felt lost, in the river of questions that had suddenly erupted out of no where. He slammed shut his laptop, and tried to calm himself, telling to be patient enough to get wind of the other events. He had to let that agent do his work, and bring out the entire story out to him, before he jumped to any conclusions. The puzzle was still incomplete; he still needed enough tact's to make the complete picture.

Kahin Shaq Hain Kahin Nafrat Ki Dewaar Hain

Kahin Jeet Mein Bhi Shamil Pal Pal Haar Haar Hain

P.S: So people how was it? I guess most of the population out here is busy giving exams or something, thats why I am not getting the number of likes or comments that i wanted, but lets keep that aside for now.

Sorry, for spoiling Arnavs character just a bit slightly, but yes for the record I was reading a thriller novel before i wrote this part, so obviosuly the idea of suspene was so rooted in my brain, that I coudnt really get out while writing the update too.

Anyways, do let me know how is it, leave back your comments, so i am motivated to write the next part quickly.

Love.

Res!

Kay, so first of all, thanks once again for doing this song! I am singing it as I type..

The update was brilliant, and call me a thriller softie (what an oxymoron) but I love the kickass Arnav...

Then Aman.. Poor, sweet Aman! How much he goes through!

The detective: seems trustable.. Is he?

Loved the way you described Khushi's pain... It was very tangible...

Please continue soon, and thanks for the PM!
