Khushi woke up to the sun shining on her face. She must have slept late. She looked around herself a little disoriented.
First thing in the morning her eyes searched for the one face that brightened every day of her life - Arnav's.
There he was, sitting by the window, sipping his cup of tea in his elegant style. He was holding his newspaper and sitting cross legged in his typical style.
Khushi's heart constricted. Why did she love this man so much? Just why? She had never understood it.
Everything about him from the way he drank his tea to the way he sat back on his chair, was imprinted in her head.
She could never imagine not waking up to him every day of her life'
Arnav looked up from his newspaper sensing Khushi was looking at him. When he caught her gaze he was stunned to see the look of pure adoration in her eyes.
He felt a constricting pain in his chest to realize that this girl loved him madly still despite the pain he kept giving her. It made him wish he was different. He wished he could be like NK or Dhruv who would have made her happy.
Khushi glanced away when she met Arnav's eyes. She did not wish him to see how much she loved him.
Arnav saw her looking away and realized that Khushi now felt the need to hide her feelings and he did not like it at all. He wanted to be adored, loved and fussed over by her and only her'.
He walked up to her and lay down next to her. His popped his head on his arm and smiled down at her, "So how is my beautiful wife today?"
Khushi blinked hard. She found it impossible to resist him when he was being so charming and she blushed a crimson red, "I am fine," she muttered.
He traced her face with his fingers, something he had always enjoyed doing. Her face was smooth and flawless and beautiful'the first thing that had utterly charmed him apart from her spunky attitude.
Khushi blushed harder and was ready to escape from the bed. It had been some time since they had been intimate and she again felt shy. Some part of her was not ready too.
She moved to get up and Arnav watched with a frown'she was running away from him. She was shutting him out'He had to win her back'he had to win his girl back'whatever happened he would win her back!
He let her go'and as she left she turned to look back at him and so his upset face.
She had not wanted to upset him, but she couldn't help it'.'
When she came to the kitchen she was surprised to see Arnav behind the kitchen counter.
He already had a glass of milk and some toast ready.
He put it down in front of her and smiled his slow lazy smile which stopped her heartbeats even after all this time.
'I don't want milk," Khushi made a face at the sight of it.
"You have to drink it for you and the baby," Arnav insisted.
"No," she said.
"Yes you will," Arnav insisted.
"Why do I have to do everything and why not you?" Khushi said childishly. Well she was not this stubborn normally but Arnav was the father and he seemed to be enjoying himself, she thought peevishly.
'Ok what do you want me to do for you to drink the milk?" Arnav asked, amused at her childishness.
"Nothing!" Khushi said. She did not want to punish him at all. That had never been her intention.
'"Khushi I will feed you the milk and the toast" he said and walked towards her.
When he lovingly fed her the toast giving sips of milk in between, Khushi could not refuse. She completely forgot everything else.
He traced her delicate lips as he wiped them with a tissue and Khushi felt the heat rise.
But Arnav did not push the moment, "Get ready Khushi. I want to take you shopping. Tomorrow is the God Bharai and I want to buy you a good outfit," Arnav said.
"But I have a dress. A new pretty lehenga. Why waste money?" Khushi asked,
"This is my gift to my wife. Will you deny me that?" Arnav asked.
Khushi shook her head. They shared a smile'something they had not done in a very long time,
When they reached the boutique Khushi was surprised to see it was the same one they had gone to when shopping with Lavanya for the engagement which had never happened. Khushi was instantly taken back to the past
She remembered the pain Arnav had caused with his scathing words and how she had cried.
Why has he brought me here? Khushi wondered. The memories were still painful. It reminded her of Shyam, Lavanya, Arnav's hateful words, La-Arnav relationship'all the things she wanted to forget.
Arnav put his arm around her waist, "Khushi you want to know why I brought you here? I know you must be wondering. Don't lie to me about that," he said gently.
Khushi looked away unable to hide her pain.
"I brought you here to undo one of the many things I have done wrong. I want to buy you a dress that befits a queen'my queen," he said softly.
The next hour passed as he made her try on dress after dress. She looked gorgeous in everything. So the task was tougher for him to choose. Khushi was ready to go with his choice.
Finally they both fell in love with a red and honey colored lehenga that made Khushi look ethereal.
As she stood in front of the mirror, Arnav stood behind her and gently lifted the price tag on the lehenga. He showed the price which was a staggering 60,000 Rs, to the utter shock of Khushi.
"No, no I can't buy this. It is way too expensive. There are many people in our country who can benefit from this money. I cannot waste it on a dress,' Khushi said in utter horror of the price.
Once again Arnav was jolted by the fact that he had judged her so wrongly initially. This girl did not give a damn for riches or gold or money. All she cared about was love and people.
He turned her around gently and said, "Khushi when I hurt you all those days ago, it was just jealousy at the fact that you were engaged to someone else. Anguish that you would never belong to me. I hit out in the only way I can'insulting you'.I actually saw you crying when you did not see me. I was such a jerk to you and it hurt me a lot.
But now I want to gift you something double the price'because Khushi my money is not worth anything if I can't make up for the hurt I once gave you," he said.
Khushi smiled her sweet smile'and Arnav felt the sun was shining again in his world.
She hugged him and said "It's enough you explained why you did that'.I don't want this dress to realize you value me much more than your money'all I want is you, your love, your concern, you knowing what hurt me and caring enough to make up for it'.
Now come Mr. Richie Rich. Let's go and find something cheaper, because you don't need to buy your way out of guilt'you simply needed to feel the guilt, which you have. And next time you want to say sorry just say the word and donate this money to a useful cause'" she smiled.
As he hugged her back, he thought that this girl just could not be Devesh Dubey's daughter' Such a beautiful person could not have been born to that devil'there must be a mistake somewhere'.
