How saiyara became hit
It is a long note ahead. But I had to say it all. Please indulge me if you have the time and the patience 😊
Thank You
Let me begin by thanking each and every one of you. If it hadn't been for your encouraging comments, likes, PMs and scraps, I wouldn't have been inspired to spin the story.
In the course of the story, I may not have responded to your comment but each comment has been read and appreciated. I know every one of you from your comments. I can even guess what some of you will say J
Thanks for being such wonderful readers.
This story has become such a part of my life. As I wrote the last 2 chapters and the epilogue, I've been feeling restless. "Jaise koi train chhoot rahi ho" (Jab We Met, anyone?)
But, c'est la vie – such is life.
The Story and Characters
When I began writing this story out 20 days back, I only had the vaguest idea in my mind about what I wanted to tell the reader.
With each chapter, my confidence as a write grew and the characters I wanted to describe became more real. I lived every character if I were able to do justice to even one of them, I think I have exceeded my own expectations.
The story itself, as you have realized is a simple one. I realize that more often than not, in the lives of ordinary people, there are no villains. Just circumstance and human flaws. Therefore, even before I started writing I knew I wouldn't have an evil Shyam, a mean Anjali, a bitchy Lavanya. Not in my first story. This one is just about two people who were always meant together and how they finally make it happen. This one is from the heart.
I did get a few comments about how the story focused more on Arnav's point of view. While, that was not my intent, it did make me think about why that happened. My Khushi is a very straight person. Pure at heart, has done no wrong. She always did know what she wanted. So the workings of her heart would have always been simple. Arnav on the other hand, went through a maelstrom of emotions in his life. Hence for just a little bit, this story is a little partial to his point of view.
Someone even said that Arnav and Khushi in my story don't really feel like the same ones from the show. It could be true. To an extent, this story does showcase my interpretation of Arnav and Khushi. Hopefully, I have retained some of what the show has. But even if I haven't, as long as you have enjoyed reading about them, I am happy.
Aditi - Now there's a character that forced herself on me. I am very wary against new characters in the stories based on Iss Pyaar Ko because establishing them and making them real is a challenge. Aditi, however, was a cake walk. Being filmi, writing about a filmi girl was not very difficult. But the acceptance she got from you, was totally unexpected. Thank you so much.
The Inspirations
Hindi films and romances: Couldn't be more obvious, right? Have paid my tribute to some of my favorites – Maine Pyar Kiya, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and DDLJ! And I loved Band Baja Baraat. But my inspiration for Khushi's wedding planner avatar was more from the show itself – she plans everything, doesn't she?
HeadOverHeels: Weird, no? But true. I started reading Mystic Skies before I started writing A Fate Intertwined. And I was blown away. That woman can write. And look how well she does that. Every word, every line evokes an intense reaction from the reader. When I am reading that story, I am in Nainital, I am there standing in front of them, seeing it unfold. Brilliant. In some way, her story inspired me to explore FF writing!
The Way Forward
I have left the story on a very poignant note. So many of you have asked me to introduce someone for Anjali. Truth be told, in my head, I can actually spin not just a sequel to this story – Anjali's story but also a prequel – Aditi's story.
For now though, it's just an idea. Finding readers for an Arnav-Khushi story itself has been so challenging (after all I am hardly HeadOverHeels). So, the prequel and the sequel will both have to wait!
I will write more. I am sure of that. It is addictive. Writing and reading responses, both. And as of now I can only imagine writing about Arnav and Khushi.
And hopefully, that story will be accepted just as much if not more.
Till then, here is the link to an index of my works. If you haven't had a chance, do check them out.
Musings of a Muddled Mind
Before I completely choke up, let me say thank you again.
If not for you, dear reader, I would have never found my words.
Cheers,
Meera
