Chapter Four
"Think twice before leaving the place in someone's heart. Because it hurts to know how much you miss that place... Especially when you decide to go back and find out that someone else has taken your place"
It seemed as though time has just suspended as Arnav looked at this Yash, his worst fears coming true. He kept his face blank knowing that all the pairs of eyes were now on him. He saw Yash step ahead and hold out a hand to him but involuntarily Arnav took a step back before reality crashed and Arnav hid behind the mask and he was ASR once again.
If Yash recognised Arnav as Khushi's ex husband, he hid it well. He shook Arnav's hand, the grip of his fingers firm and gave him a swift smile. That smile did nothing to calm down the feeling of jealous rage that suddenly took over his heart. But along with that rage, came a realization that he had let it all go. If khushi wasn't in his life, it was his own fault.
"Was that your SUV that is broken down out there?" Yash asked casually as Arnav made way for him to step inside.
"Yes. I guess it is." Arnav replied "You okay?"
"Yes.. just a few bruises.. Actually I was just helping to clear the roads." Yash replied cheerfully making Arnav's teeth clench. Yash was giving a sideways glance at Khushi as if wanting to rile her up.
And it worked, as the next minute khushi wheeled up to him and shouted on top of her voice
"Why did you have to do it? What if something happened to you? Have you any idea how worried I have been?"
Arnav felt as if his heart was clasped by some invisible fist. Khushi's anger laced with concern, her obvious love for this man gave him a feeling of emptiness. This care had been his, this love had been his.
She had been his. Once
"Khushi I'm fine." Yash said keeping his hands on Khushi's shoulders.
"I can see that." Said Khushi icily and turned around making her way towards the table and started arranging the plates and spoons. Yash bent down on his knees so that he was at a level with jiya and said loud enough for Khushi to hear
"Princess, Is your mum's slowly turning into the witch from your fairytales? or is it just me who is bringing out these scary reactions?"
"Yash this is no joke." Khushi retorted
"I'm on the receiving end all the time.. I don't mind if she uses another goat for a change." Said Jiya seriously, earning a stern look from khushi and making both Yash and Mrs Ahuja hide their laughter.
But there was another person in the room who was far from laughing' who had just realized how much it hurts to lose the one you love to someone else.
The hurt look in Arnav's eyes didn't go unnoticed as Yash trod towards his room. His smiled inwardly. Khushi had said that her love had been one sided. She had been wrong.
"Khushi hand me out my clothes please." He said glancing at Arnav to see his reaction. What he saw, gave him immense happiness.
Khushi had definitely been wrong.

Khushi kept her eyes lowered as she took out clothes from the wardrobe and looked at Yash who was pacing around the room, every trace of earlier amusement gone.
"Does he know about Jiya?" he asked trying hard to gulp down his anger that was fueled by the conversation that had been going around in circles for quiet sometime.
"No and I don't want him to know."
Yash took a deep breath trying to hang on to his patience. He sat on the bed and pulled khushi's chair towards him and held both her hands in his.
"Khushi you cant be serious.. Jiya is his daughter. He has every right to know"
Khushi pulled her hands back and her eyes flashed angrily.
"He had married me because he thought I was ruining his sister's life. He will marry me again for responsibility but our relationship will always be a mess and Jiya will have to suffer and I don't want that."
"Really?? And you are the expert at judging someone? And I guess I know where you get all this expertise from. But let me tell you one thing khushi, quit being the god of someone's life. You cannot judge what another person feels and doing so you are not ruining two but three lives. You are ruining the only chance of happiness you and Jiya can get."
"If Jiya and I are such a burden to you, then we will move out." Khushi replied firmly.
Yash stood up and grabbed the clothes from her hand and walked towards the door. He then stopped short, his hand on the door knob and said calmly.
"That's not what I meant and you know it. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgment khushi."
"And don't let your bitterness cloud yours." She retorted.
Khushi flinched as she heard the door slam angrily and she knew she had pushed it too far. Khushi put her head back and closed her eyes. But she couldn't stop the two hot tears that rolled down her cheeks.

Yash slammed the door of the bedroom with unnecessary force and walked out cursing under his breath. He saw Arnav Singh Raizada look at him curiously but Yash ignored him and made his way towards the bathroom. Catching the handle of the door he took a deep breath.
"And don't let your bitterness cloud yours."
His hold over the door knob tightened as an image passed in front of his eyes. An image captured and frozen in his mind since five years. A certain smile that made his breath catch.. a tinkling laugh that caught all his attention... he opened his eyes angrily trying to forget that one person he could never forget.. That one person who had made him forget the world... made him forget himself...
He tried to turn the door knob but it didn't move, hinting that the bathroom was occupied. He let go of the door and was about to leave when the door opened and he found himself looking into a pair of warmest brown eyes and a child like face.. Her wet hair fell in a dark curtain till her waist. Disturbed by the intensity of his gaze she was about to take a step backwards when her foot slipped on the soapy tiled floor. Yash grabbed her hand and pulled her to him. She managed to steady herself, with her one hand resting on his arm and the other on his chest. As if realizing that she was in his arms she drew her hands back swiftly and gasped looking at the blood on his wet mud smeared white shirt.
Yah looked down to his shirt and back again to this sweet lady and smiled,
"Nothing to worry about. It's just a scratch."
She smiled uncertainly and lowered her eyes. Grabbing her towel, she made her way out of the bathroom when he noticed that she was limping.
"Did you hurt your leg? Why are you limping?" he asked instantly
A shadow of pain passed on her face and she looked clearly uncomfortable. As if in an answer to his question, she lifted her saree up a bit so that he could see the black leg brace.
"Oh... urm I'm sorry." Said Yash, now as uncomfortable as she had just been.
"Its okay." She said with a small smile and limped towards the guest room closing the door behind her. Yash stared at the closed door for a long time. He had a strange feeling in his heart.. as if it had just missed a beat. He remembered that feeling so well from so long ago but he had always thought that the feeling had left him when she left the world. He shook his head to clear the wayward thoughts from his mind. As he stepped inside the bathroom and was about to close the door, he caught his mothers sparkling eyes and knew she had witnessed the whole scene. He could almost hear the wheels turning in her brain. Ignoring her, he closed the door and let the hot blast of water hit his face , smiling to himself, the earlier foul mood forgotten.

Khushi entered Arnav's room to call him for tea when she saw him staring out of the window, back straight, hands clenched into fists. She wheeled towards him and gently held his hand and he looked at her surprised. She fastened her fingers around his closed fist and slowly opened it, lifted his hand and placed a kiss on his palm.
Arnav couldn't hold back his emotions any longer. With a swift motion he lifted her off the chair in his arms and sat on the king sized bed with her in his lap. He didn't care that he had no right on her. He didn't care that she was married. She was here and so was he. And that was all that mattered.
She had wrapped her rams around his neck and she looked in his eyes knowing that he was going through a lot at the moment. She didn't protest as he continued to hold her but let herself be lost his arms. Because when he was gone, this would be another memory that would help her live without him.. that would help her go on.
"I'm glad that Di has moved on and put shyam behind her. Its nice to see di sound the way she had when I first met her." She said
"Yes. Shyam was the one who made all the mistakes. Shyam was the one who didn't deserve her love. May be that was the reason she could move on. The same can be said for me when it comes to us and I guess that is the reason you moved on too." he said quietly
"Arnavji---" khushi started but he cut her off
"I really loved you. Even when I hated you, I loved you."
"I know." She said softly
"Then why Khushi? Why did you walk away? Why didn't you wait? Why---"
"Because our love destroyed everything Arnav. It only gave us pain."
"We could have built everything anew Khushi, if only you had waited. We had love."
She smiled softly at that and shook her head
"It wasn't enough, Arnav. Love wasn't enough"

Khushi was passing by Anjali's room when she saw Anjali drying her hair. She caught her eye in the mirror and Anjali motioned her to come in. Khushi wheeled towards her wanting to ask her one question that had been on her mind for quiet sometime
"Di, how is jiji? Is she happy? Does jijaji take good care of her?"
Anjali froze at the question. She then switched off the hairdryer and moved towards the window.
"Payalji is fine. I don't know if she is happy. She and Akash are not together."
Khushi's head snapped up and she looked at Anjali in shock. Anjali's next words reverberated off the walls and they rung in her ears for a long time.
"Soon after you left, Payal divorced Akash."
