I walked into the college. Maybe everyone could make out that I was new here. I was searching for the principals's office when two girls came forward and said, "Heyya girl...Newbie right" One of them asked me. "Sharon, Sharon Raiprakash." I said as I extended my hand. She took it and said, "Myself Nikita and this is Aditi. You must be the one Nicole ma'am was talking about. You are a dancer right? " she added. Aditi came forward and gave me a hug and said, " no formality between friends. Welcome to St. Louise and its dance team"
" You haven't even seen me dance " I told her. " we haven't but even your walk is so graceful anybody can make out that you will be a fabulous dancer. Even Nicole ma'am suggested your name and its not easy to impress her." "But how did Nicole ma'am know I dance" I asked her. " That we don't know you need to ask her yourself. " I smiled.
"The principal is expecting you in his office" said Nikita. I was happy that I had made friends so easily. I set out to find the principal's office and then being shown around by my friends.
We were near the rehearsal hall when three boys joined us. "Niks, Aditi. Heyya..and who is she? " he said turning to me. I opened my mouth to answer but Aditi did the talking. " hi boys. This is Sharon. The final member of our dance team." The boy who had earlier said to me." Oh. Well nice to meet you and I am Abhinav. Abhi for all my friends." The other two also joined in, "I'm Dhruv" and "I Nikhil" "Nice to meet you all" I said not knowing what else to say.
Nikita grabbed me by my arm and led me inside the rehearsal hall. Dancers introduce themselves not by by words but by their dance moves. So we ended up dancing as our first hour was free. We danced to various songs and it didn't take me long to discover that they were fabulous dancers themselves. I really liked Abhi's moves but Swayam's moves were always the best.
After the first hour we all became busy and attended all the classes lined up for the day. By the end I felt I had been in this place for mare than just a day. Nikita, Aditi and I were walking out when Swayam called.
"Swayam" I said looking at the caller ID. "your boyfriend?" Aditi questioned me, with a glint in her eyes. " no no my best friend. " I told them with a laugh. "ohh" was their common reaction they were somehow disappointed. Waving to my friends I answered the phone as I walked over to the parking lot.
"Buttercup it took you so long to answer the phone" he said as soon as i pressed the answer button. " well i was explaining to my friends that you are my best friend" I chuckled. "well. Now come along I'm waiting at the parking." he said. "on my way." I told him. "Waiting Buttercup." and he ended the call.
SWPOV
"Buttercup, you are here at last" I told her as I saw her come over. "I've been waiting for so long. More than an hour" I added. "Liar" she said as she chuckled. " you had a class till half an hour ago and it takes you at least twenty minutes to reach here. " she told me.
"Get in" I said . As soon as we were seated I started the engine and we left. I wanted to tell her I that I had missed her but kept quiet thinking of what she might just say. She was thinking about the same thing I guess cause when we spoke we spoke together," you know it was weird not having you around" We laughed at this.
I was the first to recover so I told her "well I never realised this all these 10 years " " Me too" She said and we continued to laugh. When we both had regained our control over our laughter I asked her " So how was your first day Buttercup?" "Wonderful" she quipped.
She related all that had happened that day. Our talks had not even finished by the time we reached her house so she invited me inside. Once we we were inside we talked. She completed her tale. When she praised the dancers in her group specially some guy called Abhi, i don't know why but I felt a bit jealous and the name kept ringing in my mind.
It was Mom's call that brought us back to the real world. "Hi Mom." I said cheerfully. " I assumed you were lost or something when I didn't see you for so long. Not that I have seen you now" She told me. "Mom , I am at Buttercups and I will be home shortly." I assured her. "You and your Buttercup." Mom said. "please give that girl some time. And yourself also." Mom told me." Mom...Ok I'm coming" I said as I cut the phone.
"Buttercup, I need to be leaving" I told her. " Bye Swayam. Meet you tomorrow." She said. "bye Buttercup and take care." I said as I walked down with her.
When we reached to the door, I gave her a side hug and wishing her good night I walked to my car and drove back home.
