Part 9
Khushi drew a sharp breath at the veiled threat and pressed a trembling hand against her thundering heart; her face flaming. A strange heat had invaded her body, the previously balmy air doing little to comfort her. She stared balefully at the quilt; it was warm and soft; and threw it over the hard body lying next to her. Arnav smiled in the darkness as Khushi's quilt landed on him, followed by incoherent mutterings about a certain Laad Governor and his highhandedness; Khushi was making little efforts to hide her agitation. She tossed and turned, making as much noise as she could; thumping her pillow, rustling the bedclothes, her anklets tinkling, glass bangles making quite a din.
'Are you always this noisy Khushi?' an amused voice asked.
'Nahin ...is sey bhi kahin zyada', Khushi retorted, quite irritated at not being able to find a comfortable place in the bed; it was too soft, too smooth, too wide; she was hot, she felt cold; she was thirsty, she was hungry, she was too full from the gulab jamoons.
'Hmmm...I guess I will find out tomorrow', Armav murmured and wished desperately for the night to be over. It was sheer torture to lie next to Khushi and not touch her.
He wanted their new life to start in a new place, a place which was not stained by the presence of Shyam; a place where there will no place for pretence, for falsehood, but Manali seemed far far away.
'Stop making faces Khushi and no sticking your tongue at me, I will show you a better use for that'.
Khushi ignored the last part, they did not make much sense and defiantly stuck out her tongue, pointing at his back. Unlike her, he seemed quite comfortable lying there; making no effort at all to turn towards her or to even touch her. Not that she was dying for his touch, not at all.
Long after steady rhythmic breathing and a relaxed stance indicated that Arnav has fallen asleep, Khushi was still awake. The fact that this was the first time in her life that she was sharing a bed with a man was enough to keep her awake, the feeling that by this time tomorrow her husband would have made his threat real made her restless with a good dose of panic thrown in the mix.
Guided by the faint light thrown from the poolside lamps, she leaned over his shoulders and gazed. Arnav Singh Raizada slept like a baby; limbs spread in abandon, hands clutching a cushion. But all resemblance to a sleeping cherub ended there. Khushi had never seen a baby who looked so vital even in sleep. The fiery eyes were closed, providing her with much needed courage to continue cataloguing his features. He had ridiculously long lashes, probably longer than hers; Khushi was miffed by this discovery. The thick eye-brows were relaxed for once, not knitted in the usual frown; the habitually stern mouth curved slightly. The scar on his left eyelid drew her curious fingers and she traced the mark gently. He did not awaken. Emboldened by this, Khushi let her fingers choose where they wanted to wander. The wide forehead, the eyebrows, his eyelids, the soft, long lashes, the blade of his nose, the slightly rough cheeks covered with stubbles, the stubborn jaw, nothing escaped her slim fingers. They hovered over his mouth, the mouth which spouted such hurtful things that she bled from the wounds, the mouth which would ask 'Tum theek ho? Are you ok?' at the slightest hint of discomfort on her part; the same mouth that drove her crazy with his sinful kisses.
Khushi watched as her fingers drew a line on his lips, from one corner to the other. They were smooth, soft but firm. She traced the fuller bottom lip and drawn by a strange pull pressed her mouth in a light kiss against his. The feeling of butterfly wings beating against his mouth drew Arnav from his dream of Khushi and he stirred slightly, making Khushi hurriedly move away. She however, was not fast enough to move her hand completely and rued her impulsiveness as the same hand was captured by her sleeping husband and pressed against his heart as he turned towards her. Scared to further disrupt his sleep and maybe wake him up completely she let her hand remain on his chest and lay down beside him, resigned to spend the night counting Laxmi's innumerable friends as they jumped over fences.
Khushi lay on a warm mattress, it was hard in most places, but she was comfortable and did not want to seek a softer one. Her legs were weighed down, while her arms were entwined around something hard and smooth, her face was pressed against soft grasses that tickled her nose, the feeling not quite unpleasant. She frowned in annoyance as the mattress moved a little. Hands, sure and confident, slid under the kurta at her waist, pushing it high; moved over her back, brushing over the soft skin. Nimble fingers unclipping her bra, coupled with something hard pressing insistently against her tummy jerked her awake and she moved, knocking her head against a hard jaw, earning a pained 'ouch' from Arnav Singh Raizada, who tried to look sheepish at being caught and failed miserably.
Khushi gaped at herself; she was half-lying over her husband, sometime during the night she had moved over him and draped herself around him; her legs were imprisoned between his, her arms entwined around his torso, her cheeks turned crimson as she realised that she had slept with her face pressed against his heart, his chest hairs the soft grass. She tried to free herself, moving her arms hastily away from his body, flushing redder as she identified the unrelenting hardness surging against her.
Her unsuspecting mouth opened in an 'O' and was swiftly caught in a gentle kiss, his lips soft and non-threatening against hers. He broke the kiss, as she squirmed, trying to get away from him; and pressed his forehead against hers. "Good Morning", his sleep-roughened voice rasped, raising goose bumps on her already sensitized body. 'Morning', she mumbled, trying not to make it apparent that she was trying to run. His hands moved on her back, pushing the cotton straps low on her shoulders. Arnav muffled a groan as she flinched at his touch, she was so responsive. Was she this soft all over?
Catching Khushi's frantic looks, he delivered his command of the day, 'No lingerie in this bed Khushi'. At her questioning look, he elaborated, 'it means no this', he fingers rubbed her bra straps 'and no this', he boldly cupped her between her legs, making her release her breath in a whoosh.
Desperately needing her hands on his body, he captured her now-limp hand and moved it to the waistband of his drawstring pajama, 'I don't wear either, wanna see?'
Khushi snatched her hand, as if burnt and pushing him with all her might fled to the sanctuary provided by the washroom, her body shaking uncontrollably.
Arnav watched his scared wife running away and groaned in frustration, closing his eyes. He should have known better than to start this game.
Guys, I know it is short, but I am at work and my boss is giving me the evil eye at such a long break.
I will try to update during the weekend.
