CHAPTER 8
OBSCURE FEELINGS
"Hmmm''Arnav," she muttered against his mouth.
Their ruffled voices tangled with the muffled breaths, was making it harder for him to concentrate on the surroundings. He slightly opened his eyes to glance at her face, half of which was illuminated by the fluorescent lights falling from the opening in the room, while the rest lay in a shadow. His back was facing the door, a disadvantage he had not considered earlier. He had not even bothered to switch on the lights as he had brought her here and made sure that they were alone. Closing his eyes again, he slid his fingers inside her hair, flushing her body against his and then slowly glided his left hand over her bare thighs to her waist, finally resting it at her back to secure her position. He knew it was either now or never. He slid his tongue into the contours of her mouth. She tasted strongly of alcohol, but only he knew that it was not only alcohol. A strong alcoholic taste now lingered in his mouth too. A few minutes more to this act and then she will pass out.
Three.
He heard someone at the classroom. Please, not now.
Two.
Thankfully he heard the door close behind him and darkness engulfed the room.
One.
Her body became slump against his and she stopped responding to his feverish kiss. He patted her cheeks to make sure that she was unconscious before carrying her to a chair. She was wearing a dress that barely covered her thighs and was backless he realized, as he adjusted her posture so that she was comfortable. She was a fine woman of her stature, but not at all his type. He then diverted his attention to her bag on the table and started searching it for the only thing that had brought him till here. He had to move fast. It would not be long before NK comes looking for her. He took out his mobile from the back of his pant pocket and checked for his location. He was still at the party. Finally he found what he was looking for, the key. He quickly placed it and his mobile in his pocket. Instead took out his glasses from the front pocket of his untucked shirt and placed them on its required position.
He adjusted his glassed with his index finger, confidently walking out of the room, giving a last glance at her and pulled the door towards him, shutting it. Hopefully she wouldn't remember anything till tomorrow morning. As he walked towards the stairs, a petite form sitting on them was becoming larger and larger. He recognized that body. It was her. He was about to turn, but it was already too late. She had seen him.
"Arnav, I though you where not going to come today, so what are you doing here?" Sadly her eyes moved away from him and travelled towards the closed the door from where he had just exited and behind which Lavanya was peacefully sleeping. Her hazel eyes giving everything away, disbelief and accusation etched over them.
He should have checked her location too, knowing the fact that she was always at the wrong places at the wrong times.
Her eyes searched his, waiting for an answer, but what was he suppose to tell her. He knew no matter what he told her, it wouldn't be convincing enough for her. She had very sharp instincts, a quality that of hers that always scared him. For some reason the way her eyes looked at him, was only creating discomfort.

Khushi impatiently waited for an answer. His eyes gave nothing away, hiding everything so well. Wishing for her worst fears to not come true, she hoped that the man she had seen with Lavanya was not Arnav. She didn't know why, but from some reason the idea of him another girl did not seem right. Why? Now was not the time to contemplate an answer to why.
Was this because of the dream she had this morning. No, it shouldn't be. She quickly dismissed that idea.
Maybe she had never thought of him in that way. Why was he standing so quietly? He is always silent, she reminded herself.
Finally the wait got over, "I had forgotten my books in the university. I just came to get them," he said in a calm voice, giving nothing away.
"At this time?"
"Yes, but I didn't realize the rooms would be locked. I guess I will have to get them on Monday."
"Oh," was only something that she could manage. She knew he was lying, but why? The bigger question was why his lie was hurting her.
Maybe he was not there in the room and she was over thinking things. Somewhere deep down she knew she was right, that's why tears brimmed her eyes.
"I will see you on Monday, Arnav. Have a nice weekend," she could only manage to say, his name caught in her throat.
With that said, she quickly walked out from there before she broke down.

She collected Anjali, who had still been busy dancing on the dance floor. Reluctantly she followed Khushi.
"Why are we leaving so early? At least we could wait till dinner."
Khushi bit back her tears, as she quietly walked towards the car and only spoke when she had slipped into the front seat, "I want to go home," she muttered.
Anjali took her driver's seat, "Is everything all right?"
"Yes. Everything's fine. Can you drop me to my place?"
"Why? I thought you were staying till the weekend."
"I know I promised you I would stay the whole weekend, but I just remembered I have to grocery shopping tomorrow." It was partly true, she thought, but then the main reason was she wanted to spend some time alone. She didn't know why, but she didn't want to talk to anyone right now.
Tears formed in her eyes more out of frustration because she unable to understand her own feelings. She had never felt this way before. It was confusing. Thankfully it was dark enough in the car, that Anjali did not notice her wiping the tears from the back of her hands.

When Khushi lay alone in her, she realized she couldn't take it anymore and completely broke down. That night she cried like she had cried only once before, when her parents had died. Her heart ached as she thought about how Arnav's hand was placed on Lavanya. The strange feelings that had gripped her, she was not ready to share it with anyone. Not even Anjali. She buried herself inside the quilt, until her pillow cover got soaked with the salty water. After a few hours of non stop crying she drifted into sleep, her dreams only consisting of nightmares, once more.

Arnav had to stop his sudden urge to go storming behind her wrap his arms around her, provide her the comfort she needed, say soothing words to her. Every time he tried to close his eyes that night, the anguished hazel eyes haunted him. He wished for nothing else but to remove the pain he saw in them, but the irony of the situation was not lost on him today, as he was the reason for the unwanted tears in her eyes.
It was better that he stayed away from her. It would be good for her. He knew what had started to brew between them from the past few days, the eclectic atmosphere every time he was near her. Her need to touch him, was making it very difficult for him to maintain a safe distance. He shouldn't allow this to go any further than this. Their relationship did not have a proper destination, and could never have, especially when he was not aware of his own fate. Then how could he join her fate with his. It was not fair to her.
Here is finally an update from my side.
This chapter is especially dedicated to Farwa, who had come behind me with her stilettos.😆 I would like to give her credit for my early update and everyone has her to thank.
Jokes apart, please do leave your comments and feedback. It's really appreciated.😊
