What do you mean?!!!! YOU CANT POSSIBLY WANT TO MARRY HER?!!!YOU BARELY KNOW HER!!!BESIDES I'M SURE SHE DOESN'T WANT TO MARRY YOU!!!! Arnav spluttered and screeched as Adam raised an eyebrow at the mans violent reaction.
Something was definitely going on he thought to himself.Then smirked at Arnav before he began to explain.
''I said I would marry her Arnav...in time ...not immediately,you know?Once we get to know each other and if we are indeed well suited for each other?''
''How in the hell is that different from dating her?!'' Arnav thundered.
''It is because the promise of marriage ensures that this isn't fun and play.It's a serious relationship that's heading somewhere...not directionless as sh had put it.''
Arnav heard Adam through and didn't speak for a few minutes.His mind going through everything ...every word uttered before he came to a conclusion.
''It's not happening .'' He said with all the calm and conviction of a sure man.
''I'm sorry Arnav but I don't think that's your decision to make.'' Adam replied his tone going back to being irritated.
''I believe it is Mr.Levine as you met her via me.So I think that I do have a say in the matter.''
''She's not something you own Arnav.'' Adam stated calmly .
Arnav wanted to debate against that statement but this wasn't the time nor the place.
''I dont care.'' Arnav stated back.
''I'm going to talk to Khushi.'' Adam said shooting Arnav a look which clearly said that he had given up all hopes of Arnav sprouting a brain.
''Your going to do nothing of the sort!'' Arnav said;all the calmness and sureness he possesed ebbing away into anger.
''About what?!'' Khushi said as she walked in .Her tone cold while she glared at Adam like he was the devil in disguise.
''Nothing .Khushi,I think it's best you leave'' Arnav looked at her with a look that clearly said 'Get out!'
Khushi's mouth dropped open in shock as she stared at Adam first and then Arnav .
''Khushi?'' Arnav asked concerned as he watched Khushi.She seemed to have have frozen in her spot till his words brought her out of her reverie.
She composed her self as best as she could at the moment before she glared at Adam;with more hatred than before ,if possible.
''I should have known!I should have known that your mission in life is to spread sin and revel in it's supposed glory!But ... never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that you hit on Arnavji! Aur aap Arnavji?!How could you?!I mean...I know you don't talk much...and you are never romantic with Lavanyaji...but then I always figured it was because of your character...that that is how you were...NEVER in my wildest dreams had I imagined ...that it was because you were gay...''
She whispered the last part slowly to herself in an agonizing whisper as the Diwali scene flashed before her eyes.But surely he wouldnt have done that if he was...maybe he was bisexual,then? Her mind was whirring at the recent discovery .
Strangely both the men in the room were quite,not comprehending a word she had said.
Arnav though,was the one to recover first and strangely enough..he didn't feel angry .He wanted to laugh at her and her impulsive brain!
It was Adam;who had just fought his way out of the haze of confusion her words had caused who spoke first.
''Sorry,to break this to you Khushi but um,I'm not gay.I dont know about Arnav over there but I can assure you that I -most certainly am not.''
''WHAT THE!EXCUSE ME?-'' Arnav stopped abruptly as he realized nobody was paying any attention to a thing he said.
Khushi felt her anger escalating at the good actor that Adam was.But nobody fooled Khushi Kumari Gupta!
''Yeah right,Adamji!You are quite the liar aren't you?And two shameless proposals in one day?That's low,even for you!When I said no ,you tried to trap Arnavji?!You really are quite desperate aren't you?God!And don't blame Arnavji!I have enough proof to claim he's atleast bisexual if not completely straight,which is more than I can say for you!''
''What the f**ck?!Bisexual?!I'm straight!''
Adam and Khushi tactfully ignored yet again.
Adam hadn't known what to expect but he certainly did not expect the last few sentences.His suspicions had been confirmed as he watched Khushi glance at Arnav after her speech,her blush prominent as he mind ;no doubt replayed whatever 'proof' she was talking of.
So they did have a thing going on,then?He thought resignedly.He had been right all along.But then...Arnav was engaged! He almost felt bad for them -things sure were complicated .
He sighed before he said ''I'm sorry Khushi.You are right ,I shouldn't have done that .''
He didnt want to butt in to whatever they had going on for much longer.And he knew that the more he talked to Khushi the more riled up she'd get and the more time he'd have to stay so,he gave in to her and accepted defeat.
He turned to face Arnav who had no particular expression on his face.
''Arnav,I hope this wont affect our business?''
Arnav nodded in affirmative;unable to think at all.
And just like that Adam walked out.Without a word.He left their lifes just as quietly as he had entered it;glad to have been a part of it for the short time that he had.
He would always remember them of that he was sure.
And though he felt hurt that Khushi did not want him in the least.That she wanted the stuck up man who always seemed condescending in his behaviour towards her;always screaming and creating a ruckus for no fault of hers he realized that the heart wants what it wants .
And for her sake he hoped it would work out for them.That all their hurdles would dissapear into nothing but distant memories to be recalled upon,maybe even cherished .
