Sir, Savitri Devi from Khurana construction on line 2. Rajendra's secretary informed leaving the room.
Rajendra picked up the speaker incredulous, why the old lady called him. He personally never met her, surely he did some deals with her late son but knew nothing about her except for her name n status.
Hello...
Namaste Rajendra ji. Savitri Devi greeted politely.
Namaste ji... Rajendra responded rather confused by the casual tone.
Koi zaroori kaam ji?
Well I want to talk to you about something very important.
Kahiye...
Can't tell you on phone, its quite personal n important too. If you don't mind can we please meet at my mansion?
Rajendra couldn't bring himself to ignore the request of the elderly woman n hence agreed. Sure... When do you want me to come?
Today afternoon would be perfect.
Thik hai..
The mansion was exquisite though Rajendra was not that amused by the grandeur of the palace like structure. His own mansion was no less. He owned a big company. Previously he had a partner to share the responsibility but after the unfortunate accident of him n his wife he had to do it alone now well not actually he had a brilliant daughter who was there to carry out the burden with him n though he lost his friend he got another daughter whom he loved as much as his own. Geet n Meera were his two angels n he adored them till no ends.
Aisa nai ho sakta... Rajendra said with apprehension.
I know but it for her welfare only, she can't stay with you all her life. Dadimaa stated the fact.
App usse nahi jaanti she won't agree I have tired earlier also. She never listens, she is hell bent on living alone.
My grandson too, is not going to give in so easily but we have to try. She reasoned. They can't carry on living like this.
Hmm I think you are right. Rajendra had to agree as she was indeed correct n he also wanted the same thing. Well I will try my best, atleast I could do this much for my daughter. Rajendra said joining his hands n left while Savitri devi knew it's going to be tough.
9 PM
Geet bete tum khana nai khaogi? Rajendra asked sitting on the dining table while Geet served the food in his plate.
Nai uncle, I'd had milk. She replied.
Par puttar tu mere saath baith toh sakti hai na. Rajendra asked not knowing how to start the same conversation again.
There was a time when Geet alone was enough to enlighten the whole house n now he didn't feel her presence even when she was there in the same room. So much had changed n for once he wanted it all to be different, he wanted everything back. When his friend was alive with his wife n when Geet was actually living n didn't seemed like a walking corpse.
Ji.. Her heavy voice broke his thought n he observed her as she took her seat beside him.
Tumhara shadi k baare me kya khayal hai? Rajendra asked nervous, this was may be the hundredth time he was asking her the same thing. Okay, he regarded her as his daughter but the bitter truth was he was not n he was afraid that she might take his constant coaxing in wrong sense.
Uncle we have already had this conversation many times. I don't want to get married. She said with that distant look in her eyes which made it clear that she didn't want to continue this conversation.
Unlike previous times, Rajendra today was not going to leave her this easily. He wanted her to be happy, like normal people. He won't be there throughout her life, he was old n was going to die someday n in no way he wanted to leave her like this all by herself.
You consider me as your father. Right? Rajendra asked n Geet exactly knew why he wanted her to answer that particular question.
Ji...
Phir tu meri baat manegi... He said. I have seen a very nice boy for you.
I am still not getting married. She stood up to go to her room.
How long are you planning to stay here? He asked making her stop. N how long are you planning me to look after you.
He let the words out with a heavy heart knowing this was the only way to get her consent.
I am old Geet n have enough work in hand, I can't keep you here forever.
When she turned around, he could feel her pain. It was as if piercing though him while she looked into his eyes n gave that sad smile.
I am ready. Rajendra sighed. Inform me of the date.
She walked away. Why her life was like this? Why no one loved her? Why always god made her do things against her will? Doesn't she had any right on her own life? May be not. May be it was her fate to live like this, to have no one in life whom she could call family. May be she had lived in this house way too long n it was time to leave it as well.
Same time Khurana Mansion.
As the family members ate their dinner, there was only the sound of spoons n forks. It was a regular practice every time there was Maan in vicinity.
Ahem... Annie cleared her throat. Maan bhai..
Hmm I am listening. Maan said intently eating his food clearly not in a mood to make any conversation.
I am sorry. She apologised. I shouldn't have talked to you like that.
Hmm. Maan said still not looking at her n she didn't spoke any further.
Annie simply left after finishing.
Maan I have something important to talk. Dadimaa informed when Maan was also getting up.
Okay I will be there in your room in a minute.
Maan stepped into Dadimaa's room n found her sitting on the bed reading an old book which she kept aside on seeing him. Walking to the bed he sat beside her.
She kept her pale, wrinkled hand over his. He may not show but she could see the loneliness behind those monotonous eyes.
Maan it's time you start your life anew. N I will not listen to you anymore. Dadimaa didn't let him speak. I have seen a girl for you.
Dadimaa I think I made it clear a thousand times before... That. I. Am. Not. Getting. Married. He said through gritted teeth fed up of stating the same fact again n again.
Maan it's not all about you. There are others also. Dadimaa softened her tone. Maan I am 75, n I don't know how long I am going to be with you n Annie is also going to get married, after that I don't want you two to be living alone.
Dadimaa, a retired politician knew how to play with words n manipulate peoples mind. She knew Maan's weak point n used it for her advantage.
She is small Maan n she needs someone apart from you. N not only her, this Mansion need someone to keep the walls strong, I need someone to take care of me. You can't look after everything alone, this void needs to be filled. Dadimaa eyes filled with tears showing how good an actress she was.
Hmm. Maan said absently. So you are not going to quit.
Somewhere he also knew that Dadimaa was right but he had failed miserably once n did not wanted to repeat the same mistake again. So with a certain thought in mind he decided to succumb to Dadimaa's demands.
He looked at the smiling Dadimaa. Okay... But don't get your expectation too high from me this is only for you all. Announcing he left the room n Dadimaa smiled at her victory. She may have left politics years ago but was still in good form.
