You know this anniversary and baby thing together only remind me of QSS II. Ridhima had her third baby on their anniversary.

Part 70 (Concluding part)

As they drove to the temple Riddhima grumbled "I can't believe that even Suja forgot the date. She knows very well how important it is to me."

A: it's OK Riddhima, they were all busy with the Valaikaapu-seemandham (Ghod Bharai) function. So this must have slipped out of their minds. There's just one week more for Karan to leave, so they are busy planning how best to spend it.

To take her mind off the issue he said "Did you notice the bond between all of them. Would anyone believe they are not actually related to one another? Suja and Linda are almost like sisters and Prakash has taken the boys as his own brothers. It's unbelievable isn't it?" And he succeeded in distracting her. She immediately smiled and said proudly "After all they are my children."

A: Truly, it's the values you've inculcated in them which makes them what they are today.

R: I can take that credit where Suja is concerned and Karan to some extent, and maybe even Arun a bit. But I've in no way influenced Prakash and Linda's upbringing.

A: It's actually they way you behave so affectionately with everyone that makes them behave likewise with you and others also. The peace and joy prevailing in a house is only because of the woman of the house. And our family is blessed to have a woman like you.

Suddenly as if realizing his trick, she patted her stomach and said "ok, ok no need to flatter me anymore. Let's pray for this one to be as good if not better than all those." By then they had reached the temple. They went and had a satisfying darshan and pooja in both their names. Outside the temple she went to purchase jasmine strands for her daughters and granddaughter. Armaan stopped her saying "There's still one bundle in the fridge."

R: Then why did you tell Suja that you put all the flowers in my hair?"

A: Yes, I had specially bought one bundle for you as it was our anniversary, so I put it all for you. But I bought one more for the others too. I was only teasing them.

Riddhima just shook her head and smiled. When they reached home all of them were playing cards. On seeing them they enquired if they had good darshan and they started laying the table for lunch. The children had already been fed and put for their nap as they would have to leave for town in the afternoon.

There was nothing special during lunch either, only the usual stuff. After lunch when Riddhima went for her nap she found all the kids on it. Immediately Armaan requested Suja and Linda to shift them to the hall or take them upstairs as it was time for Riddhima's nap. While they shifted the kids, Riddhima sat in front of the dressing table removing the flowers and undoing her hair. Her hand went to the chain with the Ganesh pendant.

She purposely turned towards Suja and asked "Did you see this?" Holding out the pendant. Looking at closely Suja said "It's exquisite amma." Then moved away carrying Surya on her shoulder. Riddhima had expected her to ask where and when she had bought it. And she had decided she'd remind her that it was her anniversary, so athaan had given it to her. But nothing of that sort happened. Seeing her plan failed she pouted sadly and it didn't go unnoticed by her athaan. As they lay down for their nap he whispered I have another surprise for you. When she questioned him what it was he said "Not now after they all leave." With that happy thought she fell asleep.

She woke up suddenly when she felt a jolt. She sat up slowly and there it was again, something shaking in her stomach. She was wondering what it could when her athaan came and sat next to her. He had been sitting at his lappy when he noticed her sit up and behave strangely. When he asked her if she had seen some bad dream she shook her head and said "I felt my stomach move." "that must have been the baby moving. It's six months now, so you should be able to feel the movements. Remember last time itself the doctor asked you?

R: All these day it was only like the flutter of a butterfly but today it was more distinct. I've heard women say that the baby kicks but I didn't think it'll be so pronounced.

"Wait there's more to come. For the next few months your stomach is going to be a football ground" her athaan joked. Then noticing the house very silent, she asked "Have they all left?"

A: Yes, you were fast asleep so they didn't want to disturb you. They asked me to convey their byes to you. Shall I get you something to drink?

She nodded. When he got up and went to bring it she asked "What's Rajesh doing?"

A: He has also gone for the circus. He asked me and I felt he hardly goes out anywhere. So I said it was OK. Anyway we've been invited to Balu uncle's house for dinner tonight.

R: Oh God, we didn't even go to make namaskar to him and take his blessings.

A: It's ok, we'll take it when we go there in the evening. You have this milk and then come to the hall for the surprise I promised you.

She eagerly followed him sipping the milk. He went and brought a packet and handed it to her. Inside she found many DVDs and when she took them out, she saw that they were all her favourite old Tamil movies. She squealed with joy seeing them. When he asked "which one do you want to see now?" she changed her mind 3-4 times before deciding on a comedy picture. She didn't want to watch any tragedies or sob stories in this state.

They enjoyed the movie a lot. Karan called to inform them that they'd be having their dinner outside. When they went to Balu mama's house, he pretended to be angry because they hadn't come in the morning. At last he agreed to bless them on condition that they come out with him for a drive. They were surprised by his request but agreed no doubt. Sitting and talking with mama Riddhima was trying to guess what special dishes kuppu was cooking for them, but she couldn't get any aroma whatsoever from the kitchen.

Shortly a beautiful Mercedes car drove up at their door. Both of them were shocked to see it, as they had never seen such a vehicle in this village. When they questioned Balu uncle about it he told them to simply obey his orders. He sat in front and they both on the rear seat. Even though they quizzed him all through the long drive, he wouldn't give out anything. They were heading to the town and soon the car drew up outside a beautifully illuminated building. On entering it they came to know that it was newly built 4 star hotel with a multi cuisine restaurant. One of its kind, in their town.

Balu uncle spoke at the reception and they were guided them towards a door. Uncle asked them to go in and excused himself saying he needed to use the restroom. When Armaan pushed the door, it was completely dark inside. As they hesitatingly stepped forward the lights came on and the song "Congratulations and Celebrations" was being sung in full volume, by a huge crowd gathered there. Karan asked Armaan and Riddhima to move forward and as they did, suddenly a shower of rose petals fell on them. The couple just stood there too stunned to do much else.

A thunderous clapping followed. Suja, Prakash, with their kids on one side, Karan Linda with Karishma on the other side and Arun holding their hands from the front led them to the low dais which had 2 beautifully decorated throne like chairs. They were seated on them and the waiters came with a huge three tier cake decorated with hearts. The whole dais was decorated with red heart shaped balloons and bunches of beautiful, red rosebuds.

The couple were speechless and cut the cake as requested by all those gathered. They fed each other tiny pieces and then everyone else. The guests were a few close relatives and some very close friends only. Each of them took the mike in turn to congratulate the couple, wish them luck for the baby and each one of them spoke of some incident in their life where Riddhima had touched their soul.

Balu uncle began with calling her his friend who stood by him when he was devasted by the loss of his wife and child. Kamala akka recollected the incident when she was struck by small pox and there was no one to look after her. Unmindful of the contagious illness Riddhima had nursed her back to health. Many of the school teachers spoke about how she had resolved their family problems and financial problems. A friend spoke about how she had helped her get her son, who had gone astray, back. Karan said she was the amma who had always been there for him as a kid, whether it was to side him when he quarreled with his friends or take care of him when he was unwell. Linda spoke of how she had taken care of her immediately after her delivery and Arun about how his life had taken an 'about turn' after she took him under her wings. Prakash spoke about having found in her, the mother he never had.

Finally it was Suja's turn. But the moment she took the mike in her hand tears gushed out of her eyes, choking her. Controlling them she said "If I were to talk of all the things amma has done for me a day, a month or even a year would be insufficient. Suja exists today only because of Riddhima. She is the creator of Sujata from Amulu. Wealthy people hesitate to adopt an orphan. She was herself so poor that she couldn't even manage one square meal a day. But even in that condition, she adopted me and shared the little she had, with me and at times she'd even forego it for me. I only ask God for one boon, in all my future births she should only be my mother.

Then she ran and hugging her amma sobbed uncontrollably. Automatically Riddhima also wept with her. Everyone came up to them and started telling them that it was a joyous moment and they shouldn't be weeping like this. They promised Riddhima that they would always keep her in their prayers and offer special prayers for her easy delivery and for a healthy baby.

After both of them had managed to curb their tears, Riddhima took the mike and said "Everyone has spoken such wonderful things about me and I'm thankful to everyone for keeping me so close to their heart. But the person closest to my heart is my athaan, whom most of you have met only recently. I'm the only one who has had the good fortune of knowing him for the past 48 years, since my birth. In the first few years of marriage, husbands fulfill all their wives wishes, but as years pass by, they drift apart. I've been one of the lucky few, who has her husband dancing to her tunes to this day, our 32^nd anniversary. Just like Suja I'd also like to ask God that in all my rebirths, athaan should only be my husband." Then she boldly went to him and hugged in front of all. A thunderous applause followed. In return he too took her in a bear hug.

Then taking the mike from Riddhima's hand, Armaan said, "I needn't tell anything about Riddhima as you all know her very well. But I have to say that till date I haven't met another human being like her. I'm the luckiest person here, to have her as my wife. And I promise to treasure her always."

Next Suja brought a jewel box and handing it to Armaan asked him to put it on for Riddhima. It had a diamond studded thali on a yellow rope, the most auspicious symbol for a married woman. This was a gift from their children, seeking their blessings always. Though Armaan and Riddhima didn't wish to accept any gifts, the guest wouldn't listen. This was followed by a multi cuisine buffet dinner.

Riddhima filled her plate with rice and dal and fed one morsel to Karan, Linda, Arun, Prakash, Suja, Priyam, Surya and Karishma. Then she went and fed her most dearest baby, her athaan.

Four months after this celebration, there was yet another celebration and an even grander one. The naming ceremony of Armaan and Riddhima's daughter. Yes, Riddhima had given birth to a baby girl through a planned ceasarian, 4 weeks ago and today was her naming ceremony. The name had been decided solely by the parents, inspite of everyone giving suggestions.

Riddhima had been adamant that she would choose a name for her baby only after it was born. She and her athaan wanted a totally Tamil name for her, unlike their own. So after a lot of deliberation they had come up with the name "Arpudham" for her. Arpudam means 'miracle' or 'an rare happening'. She was indeed an extraordinary happening in their life. Mother and daughter were glowing with joy and health, while father fussed about both of them. Brother, sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew watched the trio with smiles.

"Today my family is complete" Riddhima had proudly announced holding her baby in her arms for the first time, when she had regained consciousness after the C section. All of them thought she meant having her own baby but when she said "with two sons and two daughters." They could just shake their heads and think "That's Riddhima." She concluded it by saying "but I still have many more grand children to come, besides the 3 I already have."

Thank you so much for all the support and love you've showered on me all through this ff. An ff which was supposed to be concluded in 15 to 20 parts has today been concluded after 70 parts only thanks to you. If only I had the time I may have continued it to make a century. I am out of circulation for a few months but writers of AR ffs please pm me, I'll try to catch up and read them as and when time permits. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND ONCE AGAIN A VERY BIG THANKYOU.
