Abhay Mehetha knew he had to call Kushi before he landed in Delhi. If he knew one thing about his friend, it was that she hated dishonesty. And he had already been dishonest about his true intentions of helping her. Despite what Arnav had requested him to do, he still felt guilty about having to lie to Kushi. After he had spoken to Nani who had told him to get on the next flight, he knew that if not the whole truth, at least half of it is going to come out tonight. So he explained that he has decided to make the trip to Delhi for the week and spend some time with his ill Mother. Kushi had asked him to call her as soon as he landed in Delhi and he had promised to do so.
________
As Kushi was about to get into the back seat of the jeep with Payal, Akash suddenly stopped her.
"No no Kushi, I want to sit with me lovely wife and our beautiful baby"
"Ummm... But Jiju, you always sit with Arnav Ji in the front"
"Ha! He hasn't in the last 6 months since he found out about Payal's pregnancy. He's made me the chauffeur!" Arnav said grinning at Akash while looking at him and Payal.
"Really? Hmmm.. And you didn't mind?" Kushi said with a glint in her eyes as she got into the passenger seat next to him.
"Well you know.. I do it for my niece" he said smiling back at her
"Ahhh.. I thought you weren't fond of kids"
"And I thought you always wore outfits with pom poms on them"
"Mmm... People do change I guess" she said while fidgeting with her seat belt.
"Yes but you apparently haven't when it comes to putting on your seat belt" he said with a mischivous look in his eye as he leaned over to help her.
His hand had brushed hers and she immediately looked up to see a pair of beautiful brown eyes starting at her.
"No no I can manage"
"Ahh it's no trouble at all" he said finally getting the seat belt on..
"I still wear shalwars with pom poms your know" she said smiling at him
"I'm glad, I always liked the pom poms" he said as he made a turn towards the main road.
"And just as an FYI - I have always been fond of children" he told her as he turned up the volume on the stereo.
____________
Akash and Payal looked stunned in the back seat. It was like their siblings had forgotten that they were in the car! They were the ones that are always being teased for going off into their own private world, "But these two were worse" they looked at each other and thought..
Akash and Payal were on their own mission according to La's plans to give these 2 as much alone time as they could, but by the looks of it, it doesn't seem like that would be an issue at all. The plan had been go to the mall and get separated. It was going to be easy enough to do and Payal had already planned to make an excuse 20 minutes into the trip. She had mapped everything out. She had been craving ice cream all day and knew of the Ice Cream parlour at the mall. So while these 2 shopped, she was going to sit very comfortably at the ice cream parlour and have as much ice cream as her heart desired. Akash already knew this is what was coming and looked down at his tummy sorrowfully. "At these rate, even these pants won't fit me anymore" he thought..

Meanwhile Abhay took out his wallet on the flight as he did on every trip to stare at the picture of a beautiful woman. She had been his great love and he had come very close to making her his. And he knew that it was time to face the demons of his past. Suddenly he remembered what had happened. The day of the wedding. Everyone had been so excited. And suddenly everything had fallen apart.
It had been a love at first site. She had met him in college and fallen head over heels in love with her. They were both from wealthy families and when the time was right his parents had agreed to the wedding and so had her parents. He spent almost everyday at her family house during the engagement getting to know the family and befriending her little brother who at first had not liked him at all and finally took a shine to him. He thought about all the fond memories of his youth that he hated thinking about.
On the day of the wedding, everything was ready and everyone was happy. Until they knew that something had happened. Something very bad had happened and his father had stopped the wedding immediately. Abhey had not wanted too. He was ready to marry her at all costs and he knew she needed him now more than anything else. But his father had blackmailed him and ruined it all.
Mr. Mehetha - Abhay's father was known for his famous temper. But what most people didn't know was that the people that paid the biggest price for it was always his family. His 2 children and his wife. Abhey had heard his mother cry in pain as his father smacked her around and he knew that he was capable of killing all 3 them if he wanted too. And that's exactly what he had told Abhey. "If you marry her, you will never see your mother or sister again" His father was a monster and he knew he had the power and money to get away with it. So he had walked away from his love to save the lives of his mother and sister.
She had refused to see him afterwards and he understood why. But he had still gone to the eldest person of her family and told them what had happened. Explained his helplessness and begged for forgiveness. After that, he went down a very dark path. Soon after the wedding had been called off, his father had been diagnosed with cancer. His demise was one of suffering and pain which lasted all of a year.
Abhay did not shed a single tear for the man that took away his mother's happiness along with his own for last 25 years. He moved on and went to succeed in all his business ventures. He had become ruthless. And it was good for him. Until one day he saw a young man at a conference in London that resembled a young boy he had met few years ago.
Arnav had gotten taller and more polished. But he was still the same Chote, Abhay thought.. He finally got the courage to pay him a visit at his London Hotel and he decided that it was time to mend some old bridges.
Arnav at first had point blank refused to speak to the man that had destroyed his sister's happiness. Yet he wanted to know what this man's excuse was. He was curious to know what had triggered for him to leave his sister and alter. And once Abhey had told him the truth, Arnav didn't say a word. He told Abhay to leave and never approach him again.
Later that evening he had called his Nani to let her know what had happened. With anyone else, he would have let it go. But Abhey was a part of his childhood and he knew that something wasn't right. Once Nani had confirmed what Abhey had said, he hung up and realized that it might be true that Di would never want to see this man again, but Abhey was the only other fond part of his childhood and he wanted to hang on to it.
He looked at the business card Abhey had left behind on this study table at the London hotel room and decided to call him. Both the men agreed to meet for drinks that night. The conversation had been honest between the two. They both knew the pain that the other had to go through. Both of them were a product of disappointment that turned into rage.
After a few drinks that night, Arnav thought it was time to tell Abhay about Di's wedding which was to happen in 3 days. Abhey was shocked and hurt by the news and it was unbearable. The men didn't speak to each other much following that and ended the night with warm good byes and a promise to keep in touch.
Abhay had gotten on the next plane to Delhi where he went straight to the Raizada house. He knew Arnav was not returning to Delhi until later that evening as he was on a later flight. So he went looking for Nani. Nani had been sitting with Luxmi and saw the young man that walked in. He looked older she thought. He looked like a man that had weathered through a few storms.
He asked Nani if it was true and he asked Nani if his love was happy. Nani had said yes to both and he walked away promising never to step foot into Anjali's life again.
His use of drugs and drinking had gotten worse in the following 6 months and he almost ran his company to the ground until Arnav stepped in one day and saved his life. He got him sober and managed the business until Abhay was ready to take over again. Arnav knew why Abhay was in the state he was. And he wanted to help him. So he did. During his recovery, Abhay had been in Arnav's bungalow in Naninatal where he almost tried to kill himself a few times. Arnav had not left his side during those first few months spending at least 4 days a week with him. And in return, Abhay did all he could do to repay him. Including staying far away from his sister's life.
Until now. Almost 4 years later, he was doing exactly what he promised himself he wouldn't. And he was afraid of what might happen he thought as he looked out the window of the plane.
