Chapter 11

Khushi looked at Arnav all stunned and amazed. Was this really Armav Singh Raizada lying on her lap and talking of love. Arnav looked at her stunned expression with a lop-sided smile that was so typical of him.

"Khushi, I know you can't imagine I loved you even back then, let alone loving you now. But the fact is, I did. Initially it started out as an attraction…something I hated to admit even to myself. I found my thoughts slipping to you. I tried to fight it, but fate kept throwing you my way and I hated you for coming back to my life again and again. You were making me feel and I hated that. During the Nainital trip when you fell ill and I cared for you, I felt a rush of tenderness that I never knew existed in me. And when the goons touched you, I literally burst a blood vessel and that shook me. I realized that what I feel for you is too strong and though I still refused to call it love, I knew it was something too powerful. And as days went by, I just could not resist you and you became an addiction and on Diwali night I almost gave in to it…and again I pushed you away…"

"That was too painful Arnav. I felt worthless and used…" Khushi as the painful memories of that night rushed back.

Arnav sat up and took her in his arms," Sorry sweetheart. I am so sorry. But I was hurting and I wanted you to believe you are nothing to me, that you had no power over me…It was important to me to not let anyone other than Di close to me. I have to tell you my life history some other day. But Khushi, my love, Please forgive me for that and for the way I forced you into marriage. But I thought Di's life would be destroyed otherwise. I hated you then Khushi and I also loved you…I did not know which was more. You and Jiju…it was unthinkable. Being family, I trusted him and not you…I hate myself for it Khushi…" he said with tears in his eyes, "I still don't know what happened, but even then I know you could never hurt anyone. I trust you with all my heart Khushi".

Khushi could not speak because she knew she would breakdown. But with a supreme effort she overcame the feeling and said," Arnav if you loved me, then why did you hurt me so much. All those times you asked me to get out of your car, all those times you asked me to get out of your house, all those times you made me feel so low because I was poor…"

"Khushi it will take me another lifetime to make up to you for those wounds and all the others I have given you. It was only to show you I did not care and hide how much I really did. All I ask from you is some time to prove how much I love you and please Khushi don't hate me…" he said looking at her pleadingly.

At that moment Khushi saw the true person behind the mask of ASR…here was a little boy who was desperate to be loved and yet afraid to love, who desperately wanted to be trusted and yet was afraid to be trusted, who desperately wanted to be happy but was afraid of happiness…at that moment all the reserves and grudges Khushi had against Arnav disappeared and she tenderly held his face in her hands and said, "Arnav, you don't know how much I love you. If you did, you would need no promises from me. Without you there is no meaning in my life. Even when you did not care for me after marriage, I was happy just living in the same house as you…Arnav my heart has always been yours and will always be, whatever happens." Arnav's eyes blazed with happiness at this and he crushed her slender frame in a passionate hug that took her breath away…

When they returned to Delhi after a warm farewell to the Dhaba Aunty and Uncle, the days that followed were simply magical.

Arnav always came home early to be with Khushi and she was home to greet him, coming back early from her sweet shop.

They talked and played chess and watched TV and made passionate love and did a millions things together that made them inseparable.

Khushi discovered Arnav's romantic side. He gifted her with flowers and gifts and candlelight dinners and Jalebis.

And one day he got the most revealing red colored night dress and dared her to wear it for him. Khushi could not even dare to look at the photograph of the model that came along with the package.

"Prove your love for me Khushi. Wear it," Arnav teased a week after he had bought the nightdress and Khushi had still not worn it.

"No. You know I love you, why do you need proof," Khushi asked, blushing a crimson red.

"Well I love to be reassured. Let's see how hot you look," he winked at her.

Khushi absolutely refused and then Arnav said, "Ok. Fine! I will gift this to Lisa, the model who poses for our calendar you know…She will absolutely love this and may even pose for me in it…"

Khushi snatched the pack from Arnav and disappeared. Arnav was alarmed. Had he upset Khushi? He had been joking. He would have returned it to the shop. When he went up to the bedroom looking for her…there she was, a vision in red…wearing the hot nightdress and looking the hottest girl on earth…

Khushi blushed at Arnav's awestruck look …and when he took her into his arms, she was once again lost…

"Do you believe I love you now?" she asked when he kissed her…

"Honey I knew it anyway. But you should know I love you more to see how much you can do for me…" he said emotionally…

The lovebirds did not know what bigger tests awaited for their love in the times ahead….
