Arnav is being ragged by his seniors. It happens in many colleges and universities in India though it has been banned. Usually it is just a light-hearted interaction and introduction to your seniors. But sometimes the pranks and tasks given are pretty offensive. If you had seen the movie 3 idiots or Munnabhai MBBS where the juniors are made to dance semi-nude to rather obscene songs, you would get some idea of the lengths to which some of the seniors go to have their fun at the expense at the juniors.

All the attributes which soaps portray are essential in order to be classified as a good person need not actually be good. Payal is being too good to be true. She's too bothered about manners, etiquette, right, wrong, etc that she is not living her life as she wants to. She is doing what has been dictated to her by some old-fashioned people who have actually given her a very antique upbringing. The real world does not function like that. When she does step into the university to do her course, that too in fashion designing, she will be forced to question whether all her cherished values and views are really worth clinging to. What actually makes one a good human being? Is she actually a Dodo who will not survive in the real world if she does not adapt herself quick enough? Is change always bad? Her character will proceed on those lines.
