Part 3:
"Ma kehti thi kay main shararat ka putla hoon. Shaitani mere roam roam main bhari hai... ek baar main nay di kay saath mazaak kartay kartay aik extremely expensive vase torh diya tha... aur phir." Arnav was sharing some of this memories when he stammered and stopped.
He freed himself from Khushi's arms. He wasn't used to emotional outbreaks neither was he used to confessions. They were flimsy feelings for weak people. He got up, wiped off his tears with one hand and went towards the window. Standing near the window, staring at the open sky was his best way to let his thoughts lose, and get a grip on himself.
Khushi came to him:
"Hum aapka dard samajh saktay hain. Mata pita say bari daulat koi ho hi nahi sakti... aur yeh aisi daulat hai jiskay jaanay kay baad insaan bilkul khaali hojata hai, agar usey sambhalnay wala koi na ho."
Arnav: "Acha bas. Ab mujhe aur kuch..."
Khushi: "Aap bahut lucky hai Arnav ji jo aapko apni maa achay say yaad hain, unki baatein yaad hai. Unkay saath bitaye pal yaad hain... Humari yaadein toh kuch baaton tak hi seemit hain... ...Hum bachpan main doodh peenay main Maa ko bahut tangh kartay thay...humain yaad hai kay hum apnay chotay say ghar main bhaagtay rehtay thay aur Maa humaray peechay peechay doodh ka glass lay kar dorhti thi aur phir hum aik saans main naak pakar kar poora glass finish kar jaatay thay toh Maa humain khoob pyar karti thi... Maa halwa bhi bahut achi banati thi... Woh peelay color ka. Hum sirf aath (8) saal kay thay isliye yeh toh yaad nahi kay konsa halwa par humain lagta hai kay shayad woh Suji ka halwa tha...Aur bas humari yaadein yaheen samapth ho jati hain."
Khushi got teary eyed as she finished. Arnav couldn't imagine the extent of her pain lingering in her heart, having no more memories of her mother than just mere 2 memories, but still he knew exactly the emptiness and loneliness that she felt. It was as if that emptiness had become a part of his personality.
At that moment he realized that the girl who was afraid of the dark, the girl who would get scared of a vehicle moving at high speed, or the girl who was so consumed by fear that she couldn't sleep alone... was actually very brave at heart. It must have taken tremendous amount of courage to harbor such horrific loneliness inside but not let it devour you completely. She was pained at the prospect of being separated from her parents, yet she had not given up on life. She had kept the life inside of her... heck she was the most liveliest, bubbliest girl he had ever see. In that moment he truly understood how special, and brave she was inside. She accepted her relatives as her parents, which is very hard for a child to do, but she still smiles everyday and tries to keep others happy too... She really was KHUSHI. She was not only gorgeous from the outside, but was very beautiful from the inside as well.
A tear fell from Khushi's eyes and trickled down her cheek. Arnav who for some reason could not see Khushi in tears moved forward and wiped the trail that tear made on her cheek. He then cupped her face in his hands and staring straight into her eyes told her not to cry.
Arnav in his attempt to console Khushi: "Di kehti hai kay jin bachon kay Mata Pita nahi rehtay agar woh rotay hain toh unkay Amma Bauji ko swarg main bahut takleef hoti hai, and uski wajah say unhain pata chal jata hai kay unkay bachay ro rahay hain... Is liye mat ro Khushi!!"
Khushi moved her hands placing them them on Arnav's wrist while he was still cupping her face. She was still crying but was trying her best to stop her tears as well, and for the second time in her life, he did not look like a Laad Governor to her. His touch had warmth... the kind that could soothe the soul. She looked into his eyes, and there was immense warmth, and kindness there. It was strange, but both of the individuals in just one night had gotten so close to each other seeing such a side of the other person that was hidden from the rest of the world. It was like they were meeting each other's real selves for the first time in their lives.
