Chapter Seven..
Geet couldn't believe it. Maan was kissing her. His warm, tender lips teased hers with a gentleness that made her want to melt against him. She had no idea what was going on, never expected the turn of the plan that she planned to seduce him instead..the tease was torturing and she gave in.
He claimed her..passionately. There was no mistaking his need, or his desire. He wanted her.
"Maan you?" she said unspoken question when he drew back.
He gave her a smile that spoke of male confidence. "Yes, and I mean to have you."
She supposed she should have bristled at his assumption, but she'd waited too long to be anything but happy.
"Not this way," he said, holding her face with both palms rubbing her chicks with his thumbs. "We have other priorities."
He glanced toward the twins' bedroom. "But soon, the proper way Geet."
He put his arm around her and led her downstairs. When they were settled on the sofa, he pulled her close. Her head was spinning. This was all happening too fast.
"I don't understand," she said. "How did you? I mean when did you figure out I was more than just office equipment?"
He shrugged. "I think I've always known, but I never allowed myself to acknowledge the information. It would have interfered with business. You know the rule Mixing Business with pleasure." Geet said along the last few.
"And now?" She looked up for the better view of his expression
He grinned. "Business be damned." He brought her closer.
His smile faded. "I'm not like you, Geet," he said as he took her hand in his. "I didn't grow up surrounded by a loving family. I never knew my father as a father. My mother.." He dropped her hand. "She was never there; I guess she was too busy in mending his problem and to feed us to taking care of a child."
Her heart tightened as she sensed his pain. "Oh, Maan."
He looked at her. "I was taken away by the authorities when I was seven. Maybe it was better. My foster parents believed in education and hard work. They taught me about goals. There was a lot of affection, but I didn't care about that----or so I told myself. I respected them, they tried their best to get me close to them but I could never bond with them as they thought I would until Dadima joined us. She had a different approach towards me. She accepted me with her open heart same as my adopted parent but there was more warmth in her arms then I ever felt. I couldn't resist her love." The warmth towards his Dadima was obvious to Geet and she smiled at that.
"They had a small business, which was blooming as I grew along with them, and it did made name in the market. As I turned twenty, I crowned as their heir but I had my own ambitions, to stand on my own and create a name for myself. Fate has its own plans for me. My parents had terrible accident that forced me to take over."
She knew the rest of the story. "You grew it into Khurana Industries."
He nodded. "There wasn't much time for anything but work. I was interested in someone once, but I found out she was only in it for the money."
She ached for him. "I'm sorry."
"I'm not. She forced me to the belief that women don't care enough to stay."
Geet filled in the rest of the pieces: That he didn't matter enough to make them want to stay.
"You matter to me," she said with warmth of her love. "You can't even imagine."
"I know." He leaned close. "Did you really empty out your savings just to arrange for our day together?" He was curious to know for long and it really mattered to him now.
"I have about 9/10 bucks left."
"You didn't have to impress me. You could have simply told me the truth." This woman touched him; she has proven him wrong and made him believe in life in love.
She popped up in amusement, "When? Where? At the office? Between our international sales meeting and the regional summit? You would have thought I was crazy." She ended with her hands flying in the air and looked at him for the answer.
Maan considered her words, then nodded. "You're right. I needed to get out of the office to really see you." He was sober, then his admission to the truth was genuine.
The phone rang. Geet jumped up. "That will be Aunt Ruby. Jiju said he was going to phone her next."
"Ruby?" He considered the possibility, then dismissed it. Too coincidental he thought.
But Geet knew him well. Perhaps too well. She grinned.
"Yes, that Ruby. Your former assistant." She chuckled more, the surprise was evident on his face yet not ready to believe, but today anything was possible he thought.
"When she decided to retire, she suggested I apply for her job. She said we would be well matched and I'll fit perfectly in your world. Funny, at the time I thought she was talking about a working relationship, but now I have a feeling she meant something else entirely." Realization down on her and she grinned.
Smiling himself, he followed Geet to the phone and waited until she'd spoken with her aunt. Once they'd discussed Neha and the new baby, he took the phone.
"It's Maan," he said.
"Hello, dear. Rajbir told me you were with Geet."
He heard the humor and pleasure in her voice. "You planned this all along," he said. "You wanted me to fall for your niece didn't you?"
"I had high hopes. I knew you were perfectly matched, but I also knew how focused you were on your work. I wasn't sure Geet would be able to get through to the thick veil of your isolated world.."
He glanced at the beautiful woman standing next to him.
"I would have been a fool not to see her."
"It has taken you over nine months to notice, Maan. That doesn't make you clever."
"You are right." He laughed and returned the phone to Geet.
Later, when they had talked for hours and kissed and talked some more, Maan stared into her eyes. "Your aunt is right. I was a fool."
"Not anymore." She said lovingly.
"I don't want to lose you," he said it in serious tone afraid to loose someone he loves.
"I don't want to be lost." She kissed him. "I'm not leaving, Maan. I'm right here where I belong." She touched his heart for an answer. He hugged her tight.
