Chapter 8

"Uhh..nahi toh. Why?"

"That lazy girl got a WHOLE day off! She did NO work at all yesterday. And today's her cousin's engagement ceremony; she should be helping around not sleeping. That lazy cat!"

At the moment, Mami was very lucky. For one, she was a woman & for another, she was older than him.

If these reasons were not valid, Arnav would have punched the living daylights out of her. Khushi was anything but lazy when it came to Payal's wedding. In fact, she had worked the hardest out of all!

"Mami, why don't we get some work done instead of keeping track of who's working & who's not?" Mihir commented, in a funny yet serious manner.

"Haan...chalo chalo." Mami answered nervously & left.

"Good job Mihir," Arnav grinned.

"Woahh did YOU just compliment me?!" he grinned back.

Arnav laughed. "I can't stand that lady." He informed.

"Yeah same here man. By the way, why won't you answer my texts?!"

"...I didn't get any text messages from you." Arnav lied probably the biggest lie in his life. How could he POSSIBLY miss the 40+ text messages Mihir had sent him last night?! They were RIDICULOUS.

Arnu Darling, you know what I think? I think you & I are the hottest guys in this wedding house. There are NO other worthy guys here!

That message right there would pretty much sum up last night.

"You didn't?! I sent you so many!"

"Oh yeah...I think my phone has a problem or something."

"Sorry about that. I would love to stay & talk but I have to go check on Khushi! I'll catch you around!" That said, Mihir HUGGED Arnav a bye.

Arnav's eyes widened. Where in the world is this guy from?!

"If I didn't know better, I would've thought he was gay." Arnav muttered under his breath.

And then it hit him, Mihir was going to check on Khushi!

"Crap! He's gonna wake her up & help her find the pink saree!" Arnav ran to her room.

"MIHIR!" Arnav jumped on him in attempt to stop him. Instead, they both knocked open her door, falling with a THUD on the floor.

"Daddy! Your watch felll!" Khushi informed.

"Where is it, beta?"

Khushi bent over and picked it up. The gold watch had A.G printed on the back.

"Right here." She handed it to him. "Why does it say A.G on the back?"

"A.G. Amar Gupta...my father's name."

A loud *THUD* interrupted Khushi's dream.

Her eyes shot open as the thud echoed in her ears.

"W-w-who is it?" she asked somewhat nervously.

She sat up on her bed & looked around her empty room.

Slowly, she reached for her cell & punched in 9-1-1 before getting up to walk around.

She reached the end of the bed to find an unpleasant sight. Her eyes almost popped out as she stared at Arnav & Mihir on top of each other.

"Uh...guys?" she inquired.

Arnav tried to push Mihir off unsuccessfully. He gave a stronger push & Mihir finally tumbled off.

"I swear to God Khushi. This is NOT what it looks like!" Arnav panicked.

"I definitely hope not!" Khushi said. "Mihir...do you have an explanation?"

Mihir smiled & winked at Khushi. Khushi's eyes widened. Had she not already told him Arnav wasn't THAT type!...he wasn't, right?

Arnav didn't miss the wink or the smile Mihir had hinted at Khushi...nor the red that flushed Khushi's cheeks afterwards.

He cleared his throat in attempt to grab their attention. But neither of the 2 paid any attention to him.

Khushi was too busy trying to convey a message to Mihir without speaking & Mihir was too busy trying to make sense of what she was trying to hint at.

Arnav got up with a "hmph" & left.

"What were you trying to say Khushi?" M asked after Arnav left.

"Emmy! Didn't I already tell you Arnav's not your type?! He's not gay!" she said, trying to convince her self as well.

"I know Khushi. Chillax! I'm just having fun...nothing serious. Why are you so tensed up?"

Her heart felt a lot less heavy. "Pheww!" she exhaled. "So you & Arnav don't have a thing right?"

"No...he's not gay, remember?"

"Yeah. It's just...I saw you guys on the floor like that & I thought..." she trailed off realizing how stupid she sounded.

M laughed. "Okay sweets. I understand. But...why were you so worried he was gay?"

"...I wasn't. I was just...asking."
"Khushiii??"

"Yes?"

"YOU LIKE HIM?"

"Who?" she asked, trying to avoid answering the question.

"Arnu! Who else?!"

"...No."

"You know you're a bad liar right?"

"Right."

Arnav couldn't believe it. They were having a little romance session right in front of him!

"Could they be any more shameless?!" he muttered opening the refrigerator.

"Who's shameless?" Rahul asked sitting on the countertop.

"Khushi & Mihi-" he stopped. "Uhh...hey Rahul."

"Khushi & Mihir? What'd they do?"

Arnav sighed. There was no point in hiding anything from Rahul.

"Mihir winked at Khushi & she blushed...& I was right there. Couldn't they wait for me to leave first?!"

Rahul shot up an eyebrow. Arnav realized how dumb he sounded.

"So you're jealous?" Rahul asked.

"Pshtt. Of what? Mihir?! Yeah right, I'm so much better than him! And for who? Khushi?! No way." He realized he was overdoing it & tried to relax. What had gotten into him?!

"Why not?" he asked casually.

Arnav shrugged. "Just cause"

"I think you like her."

"Like who? Khushi?! Oh please."

"Then why does it bother you if someone else is flirting with her?"

Arnav didn't want to think about it. He shut the refrigerator close & left.

Khushi sat down on the bed after M left.

Even Emmy thinks I like him. That's not true, is it? I already fell out of love with him a few days back! I don't love him. Not anymore...

"Khushi?!" Mami shouted, entering her room. "Tu so rahi hai?! Today's the engagement & you're sleeping?! Get up, you lazy cat! Get some work done. Get ready fast & then help Payal get ready."

Khushi nodded meekly.

"Ab mera mooh kyun dekh rahi hai?? GET READY!" she ordered & then left.

Khushi stuck her tongue out at Mami's retreating back & started making way to her closet.

"Stupid Arnav!" she cursed. "He didn't even do anything to make me wear Emmy's saree today. He doesn't even care! Why did I even thi-"

Her words were cut short when she opened the closet. There were NO clothes there! She stepped in & looked around. The only thing that lied in her walk-in closet was M's saree.

"Oh..." She smiled. "Hmm. I should go look for the pink one. But oh wait ... I can't. Mami's already so mad at me cause I'm late! Guess I don't have the time to look for it. Oh poopy." She sighed "sadly".

Khushi needed an excuse to wear the blue saree anyway & this excuse was perfect.

"Arnu?" Arnav heard Mihir call.

Oh crap! Not again, Arnav panicked as he searched for a place to hide. With the short amount of time he had, he decided to jump out the window & hide behind a wall.

"I think she knows my real name." he heard Mr. Gupta's voice.

Arnav stuck his face out to find Mr. Gupta & Khushi's mama sitting, engaged in a secretive conversation.

He hid back behind the wall & tried to listen more carefully.

"How would she know?!" Khushi's mama panicked.

"The boy. What's his name? Arnav. He was about to address me by Gupta but she stopped him."

"What?! What will we do now!? They're already suspicious! Mr. Gupta, you should leave!"

"Calm down Mr. Agarwal. There's MANY Gupta's in this world. Khushi was never told about this side of the family. Even if she knows my name, she won't be able to figure out that I'm her father's brother."

Arnav's eyes widened & his eyebrows shot up. Their suspicion proved to be true.

This strange man was Khuhsi's Kaka...

Khushi stepped out of the shower & started putting on her blue saree/lengha choli.

She recalled her dream/childhood memory & decided to check Mr. Villain's watch soon! She also needed to do tons of research on that man.

"Khushi?" she heard Arnav call through the door.

"What is it?"

"I need to tell you something important!"

Khushi finished wearing the lengha choli & opened the door.

"Arnav!" she pretended to be angry. "You have NO rights to empty out my closet like that! I wanted to wear this saree to the wedding! Now I have to wear your stupid pink one!" she complained.

"Pshttt, if its so "stupid" then why didn't you try looking for it?"

"Because I woke up late! My alarm didn't ring & mami was mad at me."

"Okay, whatever. My saree's prettier than this one anyway."

She frowned & crossed her arms over her chest. "No it's not."

"Okay listen you duck! I have to tell you something important."

"I don't wanna hear it!" she said & then walked to the dresser to wear her jewelry.

At first, she was only pretending to be angry with him. Now, she meant it.

Stupid nincompoop didn't even compliment me, she cribbed & shot him an angry look.
