Chapter 4: Call it Coincidence

Nups stood their froze her finger still pointing at Mayank, she thought about reversing her steps and getting out of the office, but that was not a choice, she could not let Mayank think that he still had effect on her when he didn't moreover she couldn't risk losing her job by denying the first project she got. Mayank got up from his chair and walked towards, Nups realize that Mayank was standing only a couple feet away from her, she put her hand down composing herself.

Mayank: "hi Nupur, how have you been?". Mayank said in a same voice that he used two years ago when they first met.

Flashback

Nupur stood in her room by the window reading a book, she was the wearing a salwar suit, her glasses were covering her beautiful brown eyes, she looked simple yet elegant this was her persona, to be simple and not let anyone's opinion of her affect her. She tried to concentrate on her book but it was becoming difficult as noise from the living room was bothering her. Her parents had invited a few guests over for dinner that had just arrived. She had accepted living in her own little bubble, where it was just her and her books. She didn't have many friends just one Naina, who had always supported her through thick and thin. While nupur tried to concentrate on the book, she heard knock on her door she turned towards the door only to find A handsome hot hunk looking at her with his beautiful brown eyes, Nups heart fluttered for a second, he was gorgeous, this was none other than Mayank Sharma 2 years younger.

Mayank: "Hi How are you?". He asked stepping in the room, nups stood still for a second wondering whether the question was meant for her or someone else, she looked around her room. Mayank smiled at her silliness.

Mayank: "I am talking to you". He said looking straight in her eyes, Nupurs blushed.

Nups: "Uh sorry, I am fine you are?????". Mayank walked slowly into the room he took in the interior design of the room, which was filled with picture of Nups friend, family, trips, places and one thing that Mayank found extremely attracted was the simplicity of the room. He stood infront of nupur, who closed her book and was now staring at him.

Mayank: "Mayank Sharma, son of your father's friend". He said putting his hand forward, Nups stood still for a second not sure how to react as people usually ignored her because of her personality; they never tried to know the real Nupur and judged her from her appearance.

Mayank: "don't worry I won't bite". Nups smiled at his sense of humor.

Nups: "what if I do!". Nups said taking Mayank's hand.

Mayank : "I am sure I will be fine" he smiled shaking her hand.

Present

Nups came out of her memories, as mayank cleared his throat trying to get her attention.

Mayank: "Wow you changed a lot since the last time I saw you!". He said checking her from head to toe, his comment made nups blush a bit, but she controlled herself.

Nups: "So have you!, you look more of grown man". Nups trying to keep the conversation light, this was professional work and she was going to show Mayank that he did not affect her whatever happened in the past she had put it behind her and moved on with her life, well it was the half-truth, but Mayank could not know this.

Mayank: "really I don't think so, I am still the same old Mayank". He said trying to look at himself from top to bottom.

Nups: "Hopefully Not". Nups said in her taunting tone, Mayank looked at her this was the side of her that he had only seen once when he broke her heart. "May I?". Nups said bringing Mayank out his thoughts and asking permission to sit.

Mayank: "oh Yah of course!". Mayank said going back to his chair and taking a seat, nups sat down as well.

Mayank: "So Nupur, you came here to meet me!".

Nups: "well if you are the MD of the company than yes". Mayank looked confused, why would this matter to Nupur?

Nups: "I am sent here by the Mrs. Priya Mehta the CEO of the perfectionist styles Inc. to design the new set of 18 homes Sharma's Housing Co. had constructed". As Nupur said these word she realized the similarity between the name and cursed herself for not making the connection earlier. As if the realization hit Mayank he gave shocked expression.

Mayank: "Oh so you are the New Intern Designer!" After looking at Nupur in his office he thought that she came here to meet him to say that she was still in love with, Yah he knew that was stupid of him to think that since he broke nups heart in such a way that no girl in her right mind would accept him again but this was Nupur, the girl he fell in love with and realized only after he had broken her heart and pushed her away from him.

Nupur: "yes and I have brought my designs with me you can take a look at them and decide". She said handing Mayank the folder, in the process Mayank slightly touched her fingers, he felt the same warmth that was in her touch two years ago, but this he felt the coldness that had taken over heart. Usually whenever Mayank was close to Nupur she shivered, he could always see the effect his closeness had on him, this time he couldn't see that effect.

Nups looked at Mayank noticing that he was looking right at her, Nups felt the same shiver go down her spine, but she had learned how to hide her feelings and she was not going to let Mayank affect her. It was her fault that she was so weak that she let a guy like Mayank affects her.

Nups: "Mr. Sharman you can take the file in your hands". Nups said slipping her fingers out of his hand. Mayank came out of his thoughts.

Mayank: "Yah!". He said taking the file opening it, he looked at few of the designs while Nups looked around his office doing everything to stop her heart from looking at Mayank. On the other hand Mayank was taking his advantage he stole glances at Nupur while looking at her designs. He was impressed by her designs was an understatement. He had known that Nupur was very ambitious about her career but looking at her designs he could tell how much effort she had put in her work. Nups looked around the office once more and her eyes landed on a greeting frame that was on a set of drawers next to where Mayank was sitting and for the moment she felt her heart skip a beat, as tears formed in her eyes.
