"How the hell did this happen, Commissioner?" asked a very upset Abhimanyu Modi, he was Armaan Mallik's manager. He paced around the sitting room of the hotel suite that was serving as home base for armaan and his gang.

Armaan sat in one of the sofa's and looked at abhimanyu's pacing form: abhi!

Abhi: no armaan! Don't abhi me!(he rounded on the commissioner again) plz explain it to me how armaan's security was breached.

Commissioner: as far as we know, our security was fool proof, no one breached it!

Abhi paused in his pacing and just stared at him: what does that mean that we were making it up! Or are you trying to say I did it!

Armaan intervened: Commissioner! Do you mind giving us a moment? (the commissioner left the room, leaving armaan to reason with abhi)

Commissioner walked out the room and opened the adjoining room, walking in one of his junior rushed towards him)

Commissioner: what have you got?

Junior officer: sir! We've managed to trace them, they're in training! Here in Mumbai!

Commissioner: I want them here! Get them! I'm giving you max. 60 minutes, get the pair of them here!

As the commissioner stalked out the door, the junior officer quickly dialed a number and waited for the number to connect. As the call went through: I'm calling from the Commissioner Police office I need to talk to the person incharge. (when the relevant person was online, he continued) this is about two officers who are at your facility in training, the commissioner wants them to be sent over immediately.

The facility under question was on the outskirts of the city as it was training centre. The head of the facility after ending the call asked his aide to find the two officers in question.

The training centre comprised of a main building which was surrounded by a number of fields where various drills and exercises were done. In one of the fields somewhere in the middle amongst the tall grass that covered the field lay one half of the pair that commissioner wanted.

The officer in question lay was flat on the ground and was hardly visible from far. On closer look it would've been difficult to ignore the fact that the officer was a woman. Besides her obvious womanly shape which was hid under a pair of camouflage pants and a t-shirt, she wore her long hair in a braid, a cap shielded her eyes from the sun which were the color of grass in spring.

She raised her head slightly and peered through binoculars the landscape infront of her. She heard a rustling near her and then felt something crawl across her leg. Even without looking she knew she had a visit from legless creatures, from the corner of her eye she saw the said snake slither her way across her.

She quickly drew the dagger out of her sheath and before the snake could react the dagger struck the snake's head killing it. Suddenly she heard a sound making her look back towards the open field, she spotted a boogie(term used for bad guys during trainings and missions) hiding behind the boulders , while another one was crawling his way across the field.

She drew the riffle up sighting the boogie through the scope she squeezed the trigger and sure enough the boogies fell like flies. She lowered the riffle and smiled the target had been hardly a problem with a riffle, with a 9 mm it would've been a challenge. She lay still on the ground flexing and stretching her muscles so as to not let them cramp, the session was over but she waited for the supervisors to declare it so. Sure enough in the next minute the boogie men stood up waving their arms towards her direction, she stood up from her position and waved back as she brushed the grass off her clothes.

One of the boogie walked towards her and pointed at the color splat on his chest: good shot!

She shot him a quick grin: tell me something I don't know!( she started across the field towards the stations that were holding water and other refreshments for them)

She grabbed a water bottle and gulped down half of it, when one of the supervisors approached her.

Supervisor: good session shilpa! glad to know you are still one of the best recruits!

Shilpa acknowledged the compliment with a grin as she was about to turn away he continued: the chief wants to see you!

Shilpa: now?

Supervisor: yes! He said it was urgent! He's waiting for you in his office!(having given her the message he moved on to talk to another guy leaving shilpa behind)

The chief's office was a good 3km from where she was right now, with no jeep in sight shilpa started to jog back. The jog was hardly a problem for her in the shape that she was, she was a part of an elite force of the Police who were under the direct supervision of the Commissioner. The elite force was assigned to handle only special assignments which were generally high risk.

Shilpa glanced at her watch and saw she had covered half the distance in 10 minutes, sweat dripped down her face and arms, making the shirt dampen around the neck and back and sticking. As she was nearing the building she saw another figure running towards the building from the opposite direction, without a closer look she knew who it was and waved at him.

The man in question waved back at her and ran towards her instead of the building, he was rahul the other half of the pair that the commissioner wanted. As the pair of them got near they started to jog together to the chief's office building their legs quickly eating up the distance.

Rahul: so the chief wants to see you too partner!(he looked at shilpa and smiled)

Shilpa: honestly rahul! Since when has anyone wanted to meet you!(she grinned back at him)any idea what is it for?

Rahul: nada!

The entered the building and quickly made their way to the chief's office. After a brisk knock and they entered the office and stood infront of the head of the training facility.

Both rahul and shilpa: sir!

Chief: I got a call from the commissioner's office today, he wants both of you to report to him immediately.

Shilpa: where sir?

Chief: he's at the Ambassador Hotel, he wants you two to meet him there.

Rahul: we'll change and go there!

Chief: I believe I said immediately!

Shilpa: but sir! We are hardly dressed to…

Chief raised his hand stopping her mid sentence: you have twenty minutes to report to him!

Rahul and shilpa left the chief's office and quickly made their way to where the jeeps were parked after collecting their id's and badges.

As they drove their way back into the city towards the Ambassador Hotel, Rahul approached the subject that was on both their minds.

Rahul: so what do you think it is about?

Shilpa shrugged her shoulders: I have no idea! I haven't heard anything going down! And you?

Rahul shook his head: it seems we'll have to wait and see.

They reached the hotel just in time as the tires screeched to a halt both rahul and shilpa had alighted from the jeep and already made their way into the Hotel. There was a lot of security at the place both rahul and shilpa had clipped their badges to their belts as they made their way across the lobby. One of the police official recognized them and directed them towards the room where they were to wait for the commissioner.

As rahul and shilpa waited the Commissioner was again in armaan's room where Abhimanyu Modi was making things very difficult.

Commissioner: Mr. Modi you've got to try and understand that we are investigating the situation, no more is more distressed than me that such an incident has happened in Mumbai. But the investigation is going to take time.

Before Abhi could launch into another tirade a soft voice spoke up from the door: we understand commissioner that the investigation is going to take time but what if the media gets to know of what happened (the commissioner looked at a beautiful woman who stood with a smile on her face)

She walked into the room and extended her hand to the Commissioner and introduced herself: I'm Muskaan Chadda armaan's PR manager. Uptill now we've been able to hold the news that armaan was shot at from the media but just imagine if it comes out. Do you have any idea how much damage would be done to the city's image as an entertainment centre, all the international stars that are scheduled to have concerts and performances here, it all can be cancelled.

Commissioner: Ms. Chada, are you stating a fact or threatening me?

Muskaan raised her brows: why commissioner? What good would it do me to threaten you? After all we both are on the same side and that is to resolve this issue so that armaan can continue with the rest of his programme and the city's law order situation remains in control.

Commissioner looked at her smiling face suspiciously: Ms. Chada like you just said we are on the same team so you'll also have to trust me. I've called in two of our best investigative officers from the elite force they'll be handling the case. If you'll excuse me I'll go check on their status.

As he left armaan entered the room: what? Abhi tell me you didn't throw the commissioner out!

Muskaan laughed: don't worry armaan! Everything is under control, the commissioner just went to get their best officers. Chill! Abhi! Its going to be alright!

On the other side while shilpa and rahul were waiting, shilpa looked at rahul and murmured: I have a bad feeling about this!

Rahul: why? We haven't broken any rules or arrested any influential people.

Shilpa shrugged: I don't know! I just have this feeling and I can't shake it.

Just then the door opened and Commissioner walked in, both Shilpa and Rahul snapped a quick salute.

Commissioner getting directly to the point: we have a situation! Last night the city had one of the most sought after rock star perform the security arrangements were tight and ready but there was an incident. Just when the show was ending someone took a shot at the star, he survived but only b'coz he fell otherwise we would've been providing security at his funeral.

He looked into rahul and shilpa's eyes: I need you both on the case, I need you to find out exactly what happened and how. The repute of the department and the city is at stake, plus this does not go out from this room, no one and I mean no one is to know what happened last night.

Both rahul and shilpa nodded, shilpa: sir! Who is the target?

Commissioner ran a hand through his thinning hair: Armaan Malik!

Rahul whistled: Rock star Armaan Malik!(making commissioner frown at him and missing out shilpa's expression on his name. There had been briefest expression of shock which was then replaced by a an expression less mask)

Commissioner: They are waiting in the other room! Come on! I'll introduce you two to them.

Armaan crossed the room to Muskaan and grinned at her: as long as you are with me I know I have nothing to worry!

The Commissioner walked back into the room: The officers I was talking about are here! Guys come on in!

Armaan and Muskaan turned towards the door to have their first look of the officers. Two pair of feet in combat boots with camouflage pants came into view. The guy walked in with a easy walk, he had a pleasant face which was set in relaxed lines, his hazel eyes twinkled. Following him was the other officer dressed identically in camouflage pants and a khaki colored t-shirt with sweat stains at the neckline and back. The similarity ended there, even from far it was obvious that the second officer was a woman the belt accentuated her small waist, arms which were visible under the short sleeves of the t-shirt were toned. Her hair were long but pulled back from her face in a braid, the face itself was arresting but not classically beautiful. High cheek bones, small chin, nice full mouth but the best feature on the face were the pair of green eyes.

Commissioner: plz meet! Special Agent Rahul Garewal and Special Agent …(before he could complete the introduction there was startled gasp)

Armaan looked in shock: Shilpa!

Muskaan looked surprised: you know her?

Armaan could only manage: I…

Shilpa's lips quirked up at the corners: I'm flattered!! Rock star Armaan Malik remembers me!(still smiling she extended her hand towards muskaan who clasped it) Hi I'm Shilpa Malhotra, I knew armaan when he was living in Panchgani, our families used to live next to each other, so we practically grew up together.

Shilpa turned her focus to Abhimanyu: I'm sure we'll have time to catch up later but first rahul and I are going to look into what happened last night. Sir!(turning towards Commissioner) I think rahul and I should head towards the crime scene and go through the surveillance tapes and recording of the event. Once we are through we can give you a report and you people also(she looked towards muskaan and armaan)

So it was decided, shilpa and rahul headed towards the door to start their investigation, armaan stood there looking at their departing backs.

Muskaan interrupted armaan reverie: so you knew her!

Armaan looked at muskaan and murmured: yes! I knew her!
