Part:7
PAST
She was doomed. Why was life so unfair she thought. It was the Annual Function of her college. The Chief Guest would arrive any moment, but everything was in a mess.
Geet was almost on the verge of crying. She was missing Meera and Yash like never before. Both had to go to Mumbai as Meera's father was hospitalized. She was supposed to accompany them but had to drop the plan as the Principal of the college trusted her with the responsibilities of the Annual Function, and she could not refuse.
So, here she was, sitting backstage with her head buried in her palm, cursing her fate.
The lead dancer was throwing tantrums as she has grown a pimple on her nose last minute. The costumes were either not fitted or had their stitches open. To add to her miseries, the menu needed to be changed from Chinese to Indian last minute as per the preference of the Chief Guest.
But what bothered her most was the fact that she was all alone. Though she was cordial with each and every soul of her college, she had no friends other than Meera and Yash. As if answering her prayers, Meera called.
"Hi Geet, I need to tell you something very important"
"Yes Meer"
"Why are you sounding so low Geet, is everything alright"
"Nothing is alright Meer, the function is in mess, the arrangements are in a mess, I am in a mess Meer"
"What happened Geet, O God I wish I was with you right now"
"Me too Meer, I am missing you, how is uncle doing now?"
"Yeah Dad is good, he will be released tomorrow, I guess I can come back by next week"
"I will be waiting"
"Oh Geet, I called you for something important, I hope you know who the Chief Guest is for our function."
"Yes Meer, Yash's dadima, Savitri Khurana, why do you ask?"
"Well Geet, there is a slight alteration. Dadi Ma had to leave for Amritsar urgently, so now, the Chief Guest would be Yash's elder brother and he likes Italian, so please try and change the menu, he just cannot stand Indian food "
Geet thought she rather die and go to her Babaji who has suddenly taken such interest in her impending doom.

PRESENT
The loud knock on her door snapped Geet out of her trance. She groaned and went on to see who it was. It was Maan Singh Khurana leaning on the sidewall, hands crossed over his broad chest with a smirk on his face. Geet never liked that lop-sided smile on his face, because everytime whatever followed that smile, left her flustered.
So she tried to make a cold face and barked,
"What?"
"Oh, someone is angry, and people say I have the copyright, so unfair."
"What do you want now Maan?"
"Don't you know, what I want everytime we have a meal together, my dessert."
Geet turned a shade of red that was almost from outer space. She very well remembered what used to follow the breakfast, lunch and specially dinner they had together.
Judging by her expressions, Maan knew she went back in time, taking the opportunity, he grabbed her and pushed her inside the room and locked it.
The click of the lock brought Geet back from her trance and her eyes widened.
"Maan, what is wrong with you, get out"
"And what makes you think I will listen to you Geet?"
"Maan please, what is wrong with you, what if someone sees us like this"
"And what if anyone doesn't, let me have my dessert Geet"
He said the last words in such a death whisper that Geet's legs froze on her own, she stood like a statue and everything went out of focus.
Taking his cue, Maan slowly strolled towards her and embraced her in his arms. Geet knew what was coming next, she knew she could not fight him, so she just stood there waiting for his lips to claim hers.
But instead she felt him kiss her forehead. This simple gesture opened the dam of her emotions. She held on to him and cried like a baby. She let him know her insecurities, her pain, her helplessness but most importantly she let him know how much she has missed him.
Maan held her limp body tightly against himself.
None of them spoke a word, they knew what the other must be feeling.
There was a time, when being in each other's arms is all they could think of, but now it is a luxury, an illusion that would be gone the moment Geet came to senses.
So Maan knew it was now or never, so, putting all his wits together, Maan asked her for the second time,
"Marry me"
