Let the swashing and buckling begin.

THE SWASHBUCKLERS….

Who are we:

Swashbucklers… obviously.

What do we Do?
Ah… yes, the only question that matters. We would like to provide a sort of social commentary and satire on everything. However, since that is a rather lofty aim, we decided to start small, with just IF. That is a superior goal as well… alright, alright… we will start with just the FF world
Yes, dear readers and participants in this democratic (and occasionally oligarchical and more rarely dictatorial) world known as IF, we shall be offering our opinions about all matters that beg the question, WHY??.
Our purview may or may not expand beyond this forum; for that, we have granted ourselves complete liberty (It's great to be Lords of our own kingdom)

Who Are We:
Are we back to this question again? Alright, then, yes, we will answer it. Think V for Vendetta, Z for Zorro… We are not them. We have no desire to wage war on all social evils or even some. We just prefer to call attention to it… We are hoping to educate both ourselves and you in the process.

What Started This:
Just a thought… When you find yourself in the majority, it's time to question your position…

What's In it for You:
Whatever you get out of it... Please feel free to PM us any thoughts that you have always wanted to voice, but never got the chance to because you were afraid of being in minority or because you thought that no one cares, or any of them. We won't promise to get to all the questions, but certainly will try to accommodate with a discussion.

This will do for now, dear readers.

And now, let the swashing and buckling begin….

Signed,
Athos, Porthos, Aramis

FanFiction trends, I was thinking that this would be a good subject to tackle first...

My partners in swashbuckling, what say you...?

No offense to the minority of comedy and other genre writers(If there are such souls, please do show yourself out)...but let's face it...Romance seems to sell in just about everything here. Definitely varying degrees of romance stuffed in between drama and comedy is all there is to it. The very cliche supply vs demand in play.

I think for the purpose of our discussion, we need to define our scale here and then go about the trending to concur which side the scale is really tipping.

So I picked this up from an external website...This is quite a broad one and safe to say we can pull some of them out...(Any additions?)

  • Young Adult
  • Contemporary Romance
  • Fantasy Romance
  • Futuristic Romance
  • Glitz/Glamour Romance
  • Historical Romance
  • Paranormal Romance
  • Medieval Romance
  • Pirate Romance
  • Regency Romance
  • Romantic Comedy
  • Romantic Suspense
  • Time-travel romance
  • Viking Romance
  • Western Romance
  • Erotica
And unfortunately Erotica and Young adult style can be brought about in the other sub-genres as well...Tricky there.
What say pals...Where do you think we are dipping and swelling?

I like your list Porthos...

Now let's narrow the playing field by what is seen on this forum.

I feel that it used to be a lot of Young Adult Romance, but lately, there's been a huge spike in Erotica.

What do you think Porthos and Aramis? Is that a fair assessment?

Porthos!

I see that the genres you have noted down are predominantly romance. Is this list being narrowed down to the ones on IF only? If that is the case then I agree. Else, if we are looking for something more generic, then thriller, horror genre are totally missing.

Athos -

I see where you are coming from. For now we can start off with young adult romance with generous dose of erotica in it.

What say you?

Aramis,
Porthos was trying to outline the major genres of FFs that dominate this forum. And I was adding that the trend has changed over the past few months from simple and sweet and occasionally naughty romances to downright XXX rated material...

Aramis,

I can only talk to this forum...It's all about having the favorite leads do a little or lot more than what is censor material in television.
