Chapter 60

"Sir, we've got the suspect in custody and Ms. Handa is safe."
"How is she?"
"She seems to be alright, considering the circumstances. The paramedics are checking her over right now and then we're going to take her to Halsted St."
Maan could only hear one side of the conversation, but it was clear from the superintendent's responses, that Geet had been found. He immediately wanted to know where she was and how she was. When he found out they were taking her to the nearest police station, he demanded to be taken there as quickly as possible. His mind knew what they were telling him, but his heart wouldn't believe it until he could see his darling Geet standing in front of him.

Like any victim of an abduction, it was difficult for Geet to believe that everything was over and she was safe. Sitting on the bench at the police station, everything that Arminta Rathore had said to her. It seemed like something from one of her worst nightmares. Geet remembered the way she said Maan's name with such hatred. It hurt to think that anyone would feel like that towards her Maan.
"GEET!"
Never had Geet had a more welcome interruption to her thoughts than the sound of Maan calling her name. She looked toward the sound of his voice and saw him running down the corridor to her. He was so fast that she barely had time to stand up before she was swept into a bone crushing hug. Her arms found their way around his strong back, her face buried itself in the crook of his neck, as Maan whispered her name over and over.
"I love you, I love you, Geet," were the beautiful sounds he uttered.
Geet smiled as she responded, "I love you too."
The both pulled back, smiling into each other's face. Maan ran his fingers lovingly over her cheek, before his face suddenly became stern. Geet was surprised at the change in his expression.
"NEVER DO THAT TO ME AGAIN!" he yelled, before pulling her in for searing kiss.
All his anxiety and frustration was poured into that kiss, as well as his desire to reassure himself that she was really there. Geet also gave everything to the kiss, relieved to be back in his arms after her ordeal. Only when their bodies forced them to break apart for breath, did they release each other.
Maan wanted to take Geet home right away and wasn't too happy when the superintendent wanted to ask her some questions first. Geet didn't mind. In fact, she thought she would feel better about the things she had found out if she could tell them to the police.

"The driver's license that we found in the car says that the woman's name is Haseena Khan. Does that ring a bell to either of you?"
Maan shook his head, while Geet looked the detective straight in the eye. "It may say her name is Haseena Khan, but that's not who she is."
The detective and the other officer with him looked at Geet in confusion as she turned to look at Maan with sad eyes. "It's Di's mom, Maan."
"Naintara's mother?" Maan looked at her incredulously. That was the last thing he expected, but he could see the conviction of her statement in Geet's eyes.
"Who is this Naintara?"
"My sister-in-law. She's married to my younger brother, Dev."

Naintara hurried to pick up the ringing phone, wondering who could be calling their landline at this time of the morning. "Hello?"
"I'd like to speak with Mrs. Naintara Khurana, please."
"This is she."
"Mrs. Khurana, this is Detective Rodgers with the Chicago Police Department. I'd like to speak with you about your mother."
"My mother?"
May 28, 2011 10:26 am Delhi
"This isn't possible, this just isn't possible. She's visit the family in Bihar. Come on, Maa, why don't you pick up your phone? You just called me yesterday. Maybe she went somewhere she couldn't get signal. I'll just call up Lata Aunty, but oh, I really don't want to talk to her. But she will know where Maa is."
Naintara did not believe what the detective had told her over the phone. She knew her mother was not perfect and could be a huge pain, but she wouldn't do anything like that. No, there was some mistake, and she would prove it.
"Hello, Mausiji. It's Naintara, Arminta ki beti."
As soon as Naintara identified herself, Lata Krishna Sinha, one of her mother's cousins began hurling all kinds of questions at her. Of course, she didn't allow Naintara to answer a single one, she just went right on to the next question. This was exactly why Naintara didn't want to speak with her, and rarely did. However, she was in no mood for any nonsense today.
"Mausiji. I want to speak to Maa. Can you tell me where she is?"
"Why, Beti, isn't she with you?"
"No, Mausiji, she's staying with you."
"Beti, Arminta only came to stay with us for two weeks. Are you feeling alright?"
Naintara couldn't believe it. She cut the call and just stood there looking at the phone. It wasn't until she heard Dev say her name that she put the phone down and looked at him. The expression on his face did not reassure her.
"Naintara, I just got off the phone with Bro," said Dev gravely.
Naintara started shaking her head in denial. "No, Dev, no. She...No!"
