A Maaneet Tale

You guys are extremely lucky for getting an update everyday but please note that I will be returning to school on Tuesday so don't be angry when I won't update as frequently!

Chapter 4

I sat down on the sofa and pressed the buttons on the control, flicking channels. Nothing interesting was on. And on top of that, Daadima had forced me to take care of Maan all day.

When I realized that nothing good was on, I switched off the TV and decided to go and check on Sir. Has he had his medicines yet? Knowing he is a very stubborn person, I decided I should just go and check.

I ran up the stairs and headed towards Sir's bedroom. Not wanting to invade his privacy, I knocked on his bedroom.

Maan: "Come in" came a very hoarse reply from the other side of the door. I slowly walked entered his bedroom and sighed in frustration when I saw him fiddling with some files.

Maan: "Your still here?" he asked me

"Daadima wanted me to stay for a while longer to take care of you. She's gone out to do some last minute errands" I said and looked at the clock. It was 8:00pm and I started to wonder what kind of errands she was doing.

Maan said nothing.

I pressed my lips and went up him. I snatched the files out of his hands and glared at him.

Maan: "Give that back, Geet" he said firmly and reached out to get it back. But I hid it behind my back.

"Have you had your medicine?" I said and looked at the glass of milk and medicines that were sitting on his bedside table. I looked back at Maan.

Maan: "I'll have it later" he said and stood up from the chair to get his file. He got hold of the file but I had my firm grip on it.

Maan: "Dekho Geet, don't be stubborn now" he cooed. I did a loud *hmph*. As if that was going to convince me that he'll have his medicines.

He pulled on the file, but I pulled it back.

"Nahi doungi" I said and tightened my grip on the file

Maan: "Geet please" he said and pulled the file, but I pulled it even harder and he ended up tumbling on me, making me lose my balance and fall on the bed.

It was as if time stood still. He had his arms on both my sides and his hot body temperature was driving me insane. Half of me wanted to just get out of there but the other half of me wanted him to do more. I could hear, and feel my heart rate increase as his eyes traveled from my face, to my chest, and then back up at me.

I gulped.

I grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer, but when I realized what I was doing. I pushed him away from me.

He stood up and straightened himself. I stood up as well, shifting my weight from one foot to the other.

Maan: "Geet. tum itna chirchiri kyu ho?" he asked me

I pressed my lips and turned to glare at him.

"Sir, jab koi sara din ese, gusse wala insaan se rehta hai na, to wo chirchira hi hojata. Apko to smile hi nahi karna aata" I said in exhasperation.

He growled and dangerously stepped towards me.

"Baabaji, inki madat karna" I said out loud. When I felt his angry gaze piercing me again I looked at him, and then looked away again.

I reached out for the glass of milk and his medicine and held it in front of him

"Drink" I ordered and held it towards him

Maan: "Tum mujhe order de rahi ho?" he said and put his hands on his hips

"Nahi, aapki pooja kar rahi ho. Aab pee lo" I said, irritated

Maan: "I hate milk" he said and stared at the glass of milk as if it was poison.

I held the glass closer to him.

Maan: "Look... I hate --"

Sir was seriously getting on my nerves. I pinched his nose and put the pill inside his mouth. I then forced the glass on him, so he had to drink it.

After he drunk the glass of milk, he wrinkled his nose in disgust.

Maan: "I hate milk. And on top of that, I've got a blasting headache" he complained

I sighed.

"What is medicine for then?" I said and made him lie down on the bed

Maan: "I have important work --"

"Shut up!" I pointed to him. He closed his mouth and looked away in anger. I knew what he must be thinking.

"Tumhari himmat kessi hue mujhe shut up kehni ki?" I mimicked in a hoarse voice and laughed. I put my hand up to high five him but he glared at me instead. I shook my head and threw my hand back down on my lap.

I heard some noise from downstairs, so I was guessing Daadima had come back.

"Okay, i'm going now. Your coming at work tomorrow, do you hear me?" I said. He didn't say anything but I knew he heard me. I stood up and exited his room.

I entered Khurana Constructions the next morning and greeted Adi Sir. Adi Sir was the only nicest person I had met in Delhi and I was grateful for having him as a friend. His quirky laugh and nerdy glasses cheered me up instantly.

As I walked to my cabin, Sameera seemed to pass by me. She glared at me. Her glare ended with a scowl. I looked behind me, her hips swaying in a way that could seduce anybody. I knew why Sir fell for her.

I entered by cabin and smiled when I saw Sir in the cabin next door. He was talking to someone on the phone. He probably seemed to catch my stare because he turned to look at me. I think I saw the slightest hint of smile form on his face. I smiled back anyway, whether he smiled or not.

I sat in my cabin.

I hated Geet. How dare she interfere between Maan and me? How did she have the audacity? And on top of that, how can Maan even LIKE such a low class girl? That girl... What was her name again? Oh yeah, Geet. She can't even dress properly. Who does she think she is? Some model?

I had to get rid of her so I could seduce Maan back to me. But how?

I sighed in frustration and then smirked when I had the perfect idea...

As I was e-mailing some important clients for Sir, I looked up only to see Adi Sir coming in with a tray with a jug of water and a glass. I furrowed my brows. I didn't ask Sir for water.

"Adi Sir, I didn't ask for water. Then what is all this?" I asked as he set the tray down on my table.

Adi: "N-n-nothing Geet Ji. I j-j-just bought water in c-c-case you wanted some" he stuttered and left my cabin.

"Adi Sir did a good thing. It's very hot today" I mumbled to myself and poured myself a glass of water. I drank some water and continued to e-mail some more clients.

Suddenly, the phone started to ring. I picked up the phone.

"Khurana Constructions" I said and tilted my head to balance the phone on my shoulder so I could continue sending e-mails.

The phone nearly slipped from my shoulder when I heard Maan Sir's blazing voice from the other end. I clutched the phone.

"Geet Handa! Come to my office right NOW. Dictation" he said in his usual angry tone and hung up.

"Ye Sir be na" I said and shook my head. I stood up but froze when I felt slightly uneasy. The next thing I felt was burning in my throat. I poured some more water from the jug but the burning got even worse. I poured some more water to drink but the glass slipped out of my hands. I put my hand on the table to support me. My knees felt wobbly and my arms felt heavy. I reached out my hand to knock on the window so I could get Sir's attention. I felt extremly unwell. Instead of knocking, my hand slammed against the window. I watched as Maan Sir's usual angry face turned to horror. I didn't know what was happening to me.

And I blacked out.

"Geet!!" I yelled as I held her limp body in my arms. How did this happen?

I looked around the room and saw Sameera's smirky face. She froze when she saw me, scowled, and turned away.

"ADI!!" I shouted for him. He immediately came barging in the door and froze when he took in what had happened.

"Call for the ambulance! NOW!" I said and felt tears prick my eyes.
