Chapter Twenty-Five
(Tum Mile to Lamhe Tham Gaye)
" Yeh kya ho raha hain?" asked Heer as she saw Maan and Geet totally break off from their romantic moment. She had an amused face while Geet blushing bright red and Maan looking around trying to act like nothing happened.
" Seriously guys... get a room... exit doors mein romance?" said Heer in an amused tone. " Woh... HAAN... Maan ko choot lagi thi.." said Geet quickly trying to cover it up. " Acha?... mein pooch sakti hoon kahaan choot lagi hain?" smirked Heer. " Heer.. chor yaar... chal.. umm.. I have to discuss something with you" said Geet as she went up to Heer and pulled her towards the doors. She stopped for a second and went to Maan who was clearly too embarrassed. " Sharaam kijiye!" whispered Geet.
Maan looked up at her with a smile. Geet rolled her eyes and then went with Heer out the door leavnig Maan there. The girls walked through the hallway , " Geet... I was just teasing you... itna serious honay ki zaroorat nahin hain" joked Heer. " Maan bhi naa... besharam hotay jaa rahe hain" mumbled Geet. " Kya?" asked Heer. " Geet main tujhse kuch keh rahi hoon" said Heer. " Haan... sorry Heer.. acha woh... mera appointment?" said Geet. Heer nodded and said, " Kal hain... aur tujhe chemotherapy pe bhi jaana hain aur maine tere appointments saaray fix kardiye hain...:
Geet smiled and the girls stopped towards the cafeteria. Heer grabbed a coffee and Geet a smoothie. " Maan tujhse bohot pyar karta hain Geet... tu sach mein bohot lucky hain.. aur tu ne Maan ko badul diya hain... back to five years ago!" said Heer. " I hope so Heer" said Geet as she stirred her smoothie with her straw. " Acha.. tu ne Maan kay saath intern kiya tha na.. woh paanch saal pehle kaisay tha?" said Geet.
Heer smiled, " Prankster... he was the naughtiest one out of all of us... but the most intelligent one... he had girls running after him.. bohot bara flirt tha.. par woh ek baat kehta tha... jo bhi ladki uski zindagi mein aayegi... woh ek dum pari jaisi hogi... he had such a image in his mind of his ideal girl and he use to tell me that she'll have angelic eyes and a beautiful personality... no chotay chotay kapre.. par ek dum traditional yet modern... I use to get so confused with that but I understand now Geet... the girl he had in his mind matched you so much... and I could tell that Maan was so struck the first time he saw you...he couldn't believe that you matched his ideal girl so much... but after losing Avantika.. he lost al hope to live,laugh and love for someone or himself"
" Aur tu? Maan tujhe kaisa laga tha?" asked Geet. Heer laughed, " Geet... I was already betrothed to Prem he and I were born.. saari zindagi uska intezaar.. phir jab woh mila phir zindagi ek dum haseen ho gayi.. aur pata hain? Prem and Maan use to play basketball in their university together... small world eh?"
Geet laughed, " Of course! and I can't believe I fit Maan's criteria"
" You're an angel Geet... you don't realize how much love, happiness and light you've spread by your very presence... these once dark and depressing halls still telling the same story again ... light overtook the darkness... and you're going to be okay Geet... have faith" said Heer.
Geet nodded, " The love and support that had been lacking in my life has been brought by all of you... thankyou so much... you have no idea what you've given to me!"
" Acha.. zyada emotional mat bun.. jaldi se peelay.. warna tera Hitler Husband aajayega" joked Heer. Geet burst out laughing, " Hiter Husband.. bechara itna bhi hitler nahin hain... thora sa.. "
" Iss hitler se tum pyar karti ho" said Maan as he came up towards the girls. Heer and Geet went quiet and just looked at him. Maan grabbed a seat and sat in between them... " Kya keh rahi thi GeeT? thora sa hitler hoon?" asked Maan faking his anger. " Sorry baba... I didn't mean it like that" said Geet trying not to laugh. Heer was hilarious! Hiter Husband... " Okay fine... phir.. dusht dhanav?" said Geet. Maan smirked and laughed a little. " Seriously Geet... I still have tons of micro mini chamak challo's waiting for me... jaaoon?"
Geet opened her mouth out wide, " HAWW MAAN! SHARAM KIJIYE!" " Apne tevar kisi aur ko dikhana" said Maan. " HAYE HAYE! MAIN TEVAR DIKHATI HOON?" said Geet. " Yeah you heard me miss.hoshiyarpur" said Maan. Geet stood up and Heer only laughed. " Okay you guys handle this... I have patients waiting for me"
She left laughing and leaving an angry Geet behind. Geet turned around with full attitude and she was about to leave until Maan stopped her by the hand. He sat her down and she only looked away childishly. " Geet.. relax yaar... mazak kar raha tha" said Maan with a large smile. She looked at him and narrowed her eyes, " Dr. Maan Singh Khurana... you'll be sleeping on the couch today..." Maan's smile vanished and she rolled her eyes. " Geet yaar.. aisa mat karo" said Maan with a frown.
Just then the interns came in for their lunch break and they stopped. " Haan haan Maan... koi baat nahin.. if thats too much then you'll be sleeping on the FLOOR!" said Geet. The interns looked so surprised but they each couldn't conceal their laughter... " Classic! fight between Geet maam and Maan sir... and now their husband and wife.. double dhamaka!... dhoom dekhni ki zaroorat bhi nahin hain..." joked Armaan.
" Geet yaar.. aisa mat karo... itni zaalim biwi mat bano..." said Maan as he slumped on his chair a little. " Hitler ki biwi hoon...to mujhe zaalim hona chahiye naa?" said Geet. " Tumne pehle mujhe hitler kaha..!" said Maan with a little more impatience. Geet stood up and so did Maan. She was about to go until he stopped her again. " Agar aapne mujhe ek baar bhi roka naa... to" said Geet. " To? kya kar logi?" said Maan. She looked at his feet and stepped on it.
He winced back in pain and ouch... being stepped on by heels is not fun at all. Maan felt like he was going to lose his foot for sure. The interns were laughing from behind and Geet turned to look at them with anger. " Kya hai!?" asked Geet. The interns stopped laughing and went quiet. Their Geet maams anger was not the one to mess with!
Maan was in pain but he handled it like a man. " Ouch yaar! kya hai Geet... pair tor dogi" said Maan.
She only stood there with her arms crossed. " To? you're a doctor... deal with it Dr. Khurana!" snapped Geet. Maan sort of healed from her attack and he held his ears and said, " Sorry... I won't ever say that again" Geet looked at him. Poor thing... She softened her expression and smiled a little, " its okay" Maan took his hands off his ears, " Thats more like it... I like you to see you smile..."
The interns were yet again surprised in the change. A few weeks ago Dr. Maan had been a total khadoos, arrogant saru that would never in anyone's nightmare apologize. And he did it so easily in front of everyone for Geet maam? Maan put his arms around her shoulder and held her close, " Humari izzat aapkay liye mit gayi... par aapko yeh bhaari parega Geet Singh Khurana" Geet only blushed and said, " Maan... phir se!.. ehm darling.. interns.. samne.."
Maan looked at them with an amused face and said, " Good afternoon everyone... quite the entertainment?" They all nodded and Maan only smirked, " Love can change any one... " The interns were yet again shocked. Dr. Maan starting to speak all lovey dovey bhashan type? seriously now?
"Acha guys, we'll see you later!" said Geet as they both began to leave. The interns had an action packed day... they couldn't believe it... Maan sir and Geet maam?
Geet and Maan were getting ready to head home and while they were in the lockeroom, Geet felt a little dizzy... she shut her locker and sat down on the tiny bench trying to breathe softly. Maan got worried and he knelt in front of her, " Geet? whats wrong?" " I'm feeling so sick... and my back is just breaking...I think its the symptoms Maan..." said Geet softly.
Maan nodded and he said, " We are not going home, we're going straight to Dr. Heer and getting this checked out no matter what" " Maan... you must be hungry... lets go" said Geet. " Chup.. bilkul chup Geet! I dont want to hear a single word from you" said Maan. She nodded and he took out a water bottle for her and she drank some water. Maan helped her up and she put her weight on him. Maan did notice that she is beginning to look even more skinnier than before... it was starting to scare him.
So they went to Dr.Heer and Geet was checked out fully. " Its the symptoms Geet... you need treatment fast..." said Heer. " Its either Cryosurgery or its Laser surgery Geet... and you;re lucky its the early stage... it could get even worse" said Heer. " What's the better option?" asked Maan. " Well we are trying chemo and the reports from the other hospitals have been working but to further destroy the cancerous cells we need to do one of the above surgeries" replied Heer. Maann nodded and they discussed it further. Geet was given painkillers and she felt so weak. Maan helped her all the way to the car and he drove her home...
He carried her in because she was fast asleep. Dadimaa was worried and she kept on asking so many questions. " Dadimaa... I'll tell you later" said Maan. She went quiet and she went up with Maan towards his room. Maan put her softly on the bed and pulled the covers up. He removed any extra jewellry and both dadimaa and Maan were at her side.
Dadimaa came with food to see if Geet would eat anything when she woke up." Kuch aur to nahin chahiye bete?" asked Dadimaa. " Nahin.. aap jaa kar araam karein" said Maan. Dadimaa nodded and said, " Agar koi baat ho jaati hain to humay utha dijiye ga" Maan nodded and she left the room. Maan shut all the lights and he realized that Geet needed to be changed. So he changed her in the dark because he would never dare to take advantage of her even if she was his wife. He would only come close to her if she wanted him to and he respected that.
" Geet don't do this to me baby, fight it... for us" whispered Maan as he stroked her forhead. She moved a little and snuggled in with him. He came in with her and wrapped his arms around her. She opened her eyes a little and she could smell his collogne. She peaked out a little and saw him to be awake. " Maan... aap sooay nahin?" asked Geet softly. " Shh... go to sleep" said Maan. She felt safe against him... no pain... no sickness would ever reach her and consume her. Maan would always stand there as a barrier for her.
