PART 2
As a soft breeze blew gently through their hair, Sid and Ridhimma , holding each other's hands tightly, walked contentedly in the silent night, towards the small gazebo which only a few people knew about. It was just big enough to accommodate 3 or 4 people and was situated at the back of the farmhouse hidden away from sight. As they approached it, Ridhimma admired the large comfortable cushions scattered on the gazebo floor and the soft sheer curtains hanging from the top being blown gently by the wind. Sid had shown her this place when they had arrived earlier that afternoon at the farmhouse and explained that this was where Sue and him used to escape when they wanted some peace and quiet from the endless crowds and parties that their parents used to have during their holidays in India.
The last time Ridhimma had been to the farmhouse was when she was marrying Sid and she had been in no state to appreciate or see anything. She shook away the dark thoughts that had momentarily interrupted her happiness and looked up adoringly at her husband who gave her a comforting smile and reassuringly squeezed her hand. He always seemed to know when something was troubling her or if she regressed back to the unhappy moments of the past few months and he was always there for her, letting her know everything was okay. She thanked God everyday for bringing this wonderful man into her life who she knew would be with her every step of the way, through good and bad times and she was determined never to let him go.
Sid sat down on the gazebo floor, pulling Ridhimma on top of his lap, as he rearranged the cushions around them in comfort. He sat back against the plush cushions while Ridhimma leaned back against him , giggling while he tickled her small waist. She turned round and kissed him softly on the lips then settled back comfortably against his chest, his strong arms covering her own small delicate ones . They looked up at the starlit sky wanting nothing more than for this moment to last forever.
Suddenly, Ridhimma gasped in delight.
'Look Sid,' she pointed excitedly, 'a shooting star! Quick make a wish!'
As Sid watched his wife close her wondrous eyes and softly move her lips in a silent wish , his heart overflowed. Was it really possible to love someone so much? He quickly closed his eyes and made a quick prayer. As he opened them, he saw Ridhimma watching him.
'What did you wish for?' she asked inquisitively.
"If I tell you, it won't come true,' replied Sid naughtily, pushing back the hair from her face so he could see her clearly.
'Oh!' Ridhimma became deep in thought. As Sid saw Ridhimmas face growing in concern, he quickly changed the subject and started talking about the plans for the next day.
'So what have you girls planned for tomorrow and what are we boys supposed to do?'
'Well, Nikki, Naina and I are taking Sue shopping and then to the beauty parlour in the morning. You guys have to decorate the large room in the farmhouse for the mehndi function. Oh and Sid don't leave the music to Abhi otherwise Nikki said he will play Shammi Kapoor film songs all evening……'
As Sid watched his wife talk animatedly about the events planned for the next day, he thought about what he had prayed for. He had asked God to give all his wife's pain, hurt and any coming troubles that were meant for her to come to him instead. And he knew that if Ridhimma had found out what he'd asked for she would be deeply troubled by his prayer.
As Ridhimma chattered on obliviously, Sid suddenly put his finger on her lips to quieten her. She stopped and looked at him in surprise.
'I don't care what the plans are for tomorrow so long as it does not involve me being away from my beautiful wife for more than 5 minutes,' Sid said firmly.
As Ridhimmas smile widened she threw her arms around her husband and whispered in his ear,
'Don't worry my darling. I will make sure you are not away from your beautiful wife for more than 2 minutes.'
As they both laughed happily, they continued to talk about the wedding until sleep came over them while they gently lay contentedly in each other's arms.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning , as Sid and Ridhimma tried to sneak back into the house like naughty kids, they were caught by a disbelieving looking Mrs. Modi. Sid, haltingly tried to explain to his mother that he and Ridhimma had gone for an early morning walk, but stopped when Ridhimma nudged him in the ribs, warning him to be quiet as Mrs. Modi made it clear that she didn't believe a word he was saying.
With a loud 'Hmm! Don't be late for breakfast!' Mrs.Modi trundled off to oversee all the work that needed to be done that day.
It was a hectic morning for everyone as there was so much to be done before the evening's festivities. A big mehndi party had been arranged , which included dinner and dancing and the guest list seemed to go on forever and ever. Sue was extremely excited as she would be finally be meeting Raj after days and she wanted to look her beautiful best for him.
As discussed the day before, all the girls prepared to go off and do some shopping and then go to the beauty parlour. The boys were being left behind with strict instructions as to what to do while their wives were away.
'Yuvi, please make sure you pull your weight and do some work,' implored Naina, 'and Sid, for goodness sake, make sure he does not slink off to sleep!' Naina warned a grinning Sid, while Yuvi rolled his eyes in exasperation.
'Nikki sweetheart, go and have fun and don't worry about a thing. Main hoon na. I will handle everything,' said Abhi hugging his wife.
'Sid, please for goodness sake, don't leave the music arrangements to your brother, 'Nikki whispered to her brother-in-law desperately, 'otherwise all we'll get is Shammi Kapoor music all evening!'
'And guys, don't even think about phoning your wives while we're out, because I won't let them answer their phones,' warned Sue knowing exactly what the boys were thinking of doing.
As the girls were getting into the car to leave , Sid grabbed Ridhimma by her hand and pulled her to one side.
'I'll miss you,' he whispered softly and gave a quick nibble to her ears. A blushing Ridhimma gave a quick peck on Sids cheek and ran quickly into the car while Yuvi and Abhi teased Sid mercilessly, who just looked on sheepishly with a stupid smile on his face.
As the morning wore on it was obvious that the boys had absolutely no clue what they were doing. They first decided to go and help decorate the hall where the dancing was going to go on, but after half an hour of complete incompetence, Mrs. Modi begged her sons and Yuvi to find something else to do. Mr.Modi was in charge of the food so Sid decided to impress his dad and dragged the other 2 to help with the food arrangement. After 15 minutes , Mr.Modi told the boys to please go and do wheatever they wanted to do and he would even gladly pay for it, otherwise there would be no food left for the guests in the evening if they carried on eating the way they were.
Finally, they decided to go and sort out the music for the evenings dancing. After Abhi had played 'Chahe koi mujhe junglee kahe' for the 20th time, Sid was ready to throttle his brother while Yuvi was about to punch him.
Yuvi mumbled something about going to get something to drink and disappeared leaving Sid to try and gently persuade his brother that they were no longer living in the 60's and he was sure everyone would like to listen to some contemporary music too. As he saw the look of complete disgust on Abhis face while 'Sheila ki Jawaani' was being played, Sid made a quick getaway saying he was going to find Yuvi, before he got a lecture from Abhi about the state of modern music. When he couldn't find Yuvi anywhere downstairs he went to their room and there he saw Yuvi, fast asleep, snoring loudly.
Sid grinned to himself. He stood there contemplating what to do. It was either going back downstairs and listening to Shammi Kapoor songs yet again or take a nap. Without further thought, he jumped on the bed next to Yuvi and fell fast asleep.
