Her Desire - AR
"Heyy Gupta.." a small piece of chalk flown in her direction hit her squarely in the head as she was brought of her day dream.
"Ouch..! Sir, you're not allowed to hit me like that!" she complained as the rest of the class sniggered behind their hands while Muskaan, sitting next to her, laughed openly. Her teacher smiled then furrowed his brows putting on a serious face.
"And why not. Anyways, what will you do?" Riddhima scrunched up her eyebrows in mock consideration and replied,
"Report you to Students Union." Her teacher winked at her, flashing her his charming smile which melted millions of girls' hearts.
"Really? I'm sure you wouldn't want to see me in trouble. After all, you have a huge die-hard crush on me." And the whole class laughed out loud. Riddhima however, wasn't in the slightest bit embarrassed. Why? Because this was a daily conversation between her and Mr Smiths, their history teacher. He had the blue eyes, the blonde hair, the firm, masculine body not to mention his killer smile. The whole school had a crush on him and while some guys openly declared to go gay if he ever shot them his charming smile, others just loathed him for stealing every girl's heart.
"Keep dreaming sir. It's the closest you can get to what you want." She poked her tongue out at him. That was their relationship. Mr Smiths often teased her that she was homo-sexual, hence not interested in a hot, good looking fellow like him. She gave him attitude back, telling him he wasn't her type, and she'd choose a loafer instead of him if came down to that. Not giving up, he had then resorted to telling her she had a deep crush on him and was refusing to acknowledge it, since she was trying to gain his attention.
To Riddhima, Mr Smiths was the best person ever, He was great to joke with, a wonderful teacher, and an even better mentor. The relationship they shared was purely of friends, which developed the teasing between them. But there was another reason Riddhima never had a crush on the hottest teacher in school. It was because of unfaltering, die hard feelings for someone else. Someone she might never be able to get.
She glanced across the room, at HIS blue eyes. Not her history teacher's. They had some amusement in them, as he winked at her from across the room, forcing her to turn a different shade. Yes, that was Armaan Mallik, the school's heartthrob after Mr Smiths. The girls knew they had more chance with him than they did with the history teacher; his open flirting didn't suggest otherwise. But Armaan was Riddhima's best friend. And vice versa. They had been friends for years. It started while he had been teasing her non stop, about everything under the sun when they were only 14 years old, then came the mutual bonding between them at the age of 15, and he was her shoulder to lean on when her first crush broke her heart at the age of 16. But long before the age of 17, or right after she got over her lost crush, she realized she had new feelings for her best friend (which may have been the reason for her to get over that jerk she now wondered what the hell she saw in) and even the entrance of Mr Smiths at that point couldn't divert her attention from him. Now going on to 18, she was sure, this attraction to her best friend was not going to go soon. And through all the joking, messing around, teasing, glaring, apologizing, she never knew when she fell for him so deeply that he was the first thing she thought about in the morning, and the last thing she thought about at night. Simple maths equation, Muskaan put it, who was a whizz in that subject.
Thinking about him 24/7 X (Blush + Being cautious around him + Jealousy seeing him with other girls) = 100% LOVE!
Then obviously you had those other influencing factors that didn't make much difference, like increase in heart pace every time you talk to him, feel at ease whenever you're with him, feel nervous at his proximity. Want him close to you every single minute of the day, but when he is, your heart breaks in picking up pace. Muskaan claimed to know it all. But she was in steady relationship with Mr Smiths, of course from her side only.
"Sir, I'm sorry to break your heart. But it's coz her heart is already devoted to someone else!" Muskaan shouted out, making the class go 'ooohh', and Riddhima's face flush a bright red colour.
She glanced across at Armaan, who looked stunned, probably because she hadn't told him. But how could she tell him? That she was probably in love with him for a good one and a half years and not once had mustered up the courage to tell him? But his random flirting with other girls - even Muskaan! ' just made her withdraw, wondering if she had ever been the object of his affection. And if she wasn't, how sure was she that by expressing her heart's desire to him, she would lose his friendship as well, not to mention the embarrassment she would have to endure!
"Ouch, break my heart like that!" their teacher joked and she shook her head.
"History, sir." She reminded him, and he hit his head lightly with his own fingers.
"Of course. As you all may well know, the USSR, under Stalin's rule.." and he continued waffling on for sometime. Riddhima found herself losing concentration again, as she sneaked a look across to Armaan, who was slightly frowning, but listening to Mr Smiths' words intently. She was so dead! He would bombard her with questions about why he didn't know about her 'love,' why she didn't bother telling him, a million more questions about what the guy did, how far she loved him, when he got to meet him to decide if he was good for her etc etc. Riddhima found herself groaning in vain, and thanking Muskaan inwardly and sarcastically for putting her in such a position!
Maybe he liked her as well? The whole class knew about their friendship. Which girl and guy hung about with each other every single minute of every single day and yet proclaimed they were best friends? It was only expected in couples, so this best friend was a first. People teasing them about being together just warmed her heart and made her like him further, especially as he didn't retort to their teasing, stopping them. But that didn't necessarily mean he was in love with her too, right? Feeling her heart drop low, she closed her eyes sighing. Why were things so complicated? Now the whole school knew they were just best friends.
And who didn't know Armaan Mallik's best friend? If Armaan was the heart throb of the school, his whole personal life was on display in front of everyone. How he dated the captain cheerleader. How she spoke just one word against Riddhima and the next moment him and his so called 'beau' weren't even on talking terms, let alone dating. Maybe that was the first time Riddhima had felt her heart go out to him completely. It was the first time she realized that she wanted him as something more, to always protect her like that against haters. Not that she wasn't liked by people. She was, for her carefree, happy go lucky, no bitchy attitude. And that's what attracted more guys to her. But ever since the burning feeling inside herself struck up when he started dating Louise, (the captain of the Bitch team AKA captain of cheerleading team) she lost interest in all guys overall, except him. Her best friend.
Here she was, rewinding all moments spent with him, in hope that he had some sort of feelings towards her as well. But she knew, come hell or high water, she wouldn't ever be able to confess to him. Or at least be the first to make a move. Then how would she know what he felt?
"And there goes Miss Gupta dreaming about her prince charming again," Mr Smiths' attention turned towards her as she gritted her teeth upon being caught.
"Thank you sooo much Muskaan.." she muttered under her breath, hoping Muskaan heard her, but if she did, she showed no signs as she continued teasing her with the rest.
"Dream on Miss Gupta. Not in my lessons though!"
"Sir she wouldn't need to dream! It's her best friend after all.." And Riddhima who was looking at her file and papers all along, felt her head shoot up as she heard Muskaan say that statement. The whole class froze for a moment then hooted for her while some girls whispered.."Ammy?" Muskaan's face was red with what had just slipped out of her tongue and she looked apologetically at Riddhima, who felt her face start burning with constant glares and glances and staring from her classmates. She was sure Armaan was looking at her now. And as the class continued in peals of laughter, and teasing, she just wanted the ground to swallow her up so that she never set her sight on any of these people especially Muskaan, ever again!
"Wow Mallik! And I thought I had an upper hand with the girls here.. looks like your dimples won this time." Mr Smiths teased, and Riddhima shut her eyes, in pure humiliation on his and her behalf. She had no clue what was in his mind as she dared not even look across at him. Thankfully the bell rang and not being able to face anyone, with her eyes glued to the ground, she packed her stuff and made a dash for it, while her classmates continued their sniggering.
Suddenly, a hush prevailed just as she got to the door, and wanting to know the reason, she stopped and dared to slowly push her head up, and turn around, only to face those deep blue oceanic eyes diving into hers. Tearing her eyes away from his, she studied the floor.
"Save me the embarra.." she began to mutter but he didn't let her finish as he smacked his lips against hers, in front of the whole class, in front of Mr Smiths, in front of the whole world if they were willing to see. Her bag dropped to the floor in sheer shock at first, as her eyes widened.
Then like a miracle, knowing it was true, knowing it was real, she smiled against his lips, and responded equally, pulling herself closer to him while closing her eyes once more, this time in pure bliss. Her hands wound round his neck, and it must have been hours, no, days, before they split apart. She willed herself to let her eyes remain closed, lest it be the most beautiful dream she had had the pleasure to come across yet. But the feeling of his soft, wet lips against her closed eyelids forced them to open and face reality, feeling her smile become wider if possible.
He was looking down at her with all the adoration in his eyes visible, as his hands did not leave her waist for a single second.
"I love you.." he whispered, only audible to her, and feeling herself flush scarlet, she looked down, then at the wide eyes of everyone in the room, sans Muskaan, who was grinning like a maniac at her. Getting out of his trance, her favourite ever teacher winked across at her, as Armaan turned around to face the class, pulling Riddhima by his side, and dropping another kiss on her cheek. The silence and secretive glances between all her classmates prevailed as the hottest single hunk in school now, called in a booming voice.
"PDA! But I don't have the heart to report you. Now unless you all want to stay in the classroom till Christmas, I suggest move along!"
The laughter and shuffling commenced once again, and Riddhima was aware of the jealous looks and a couple of heartbroken faces that came her way. But she didn't care this time. She looked sideways up at him as she whispered,
"I love you too," to which he gave her one his most charming smiles and replied,
"Shall we ditch?"
And without hesitating, she nodded and they turned, picked up her bag and headed out with their hands intertwined, to his red and black motorbike that gleamed in the overhead sun. With Armaan, if all days turned out as wonderful as this one, she was sure she would never let go. And problems were bound to come, but she would face them then. They reached their ride, and he turned, cupping her face in his.
"It was always you. Ever since we first started being friends. I only realized it was love, when I couldn't stand hearing Louise bitch about you." His eyes held all the sincerity in the world, and she was sure he could hold her hazel gaze in his ocean blue forever. Sill, she managed to whisper back a reply,
"And I only realized it was love when you stood up for me in front of everyone and dumped her on the spot."
After hearing that, he once more pulled her chin upward, and this time slowly leaned in, letting their lips meet together, to create a wonderful new sensation burning inside her. One she had not felt before, one she had always wanted to experience and one she did not want to let go of ever. Her desire, her Armaan.
