Chapter 2 - Reunion
Mayank came out followed by Neil, who took a liking to Mayank. They were talking and discussing about the case, whilst Sara sat with nupur awaiting the results. Nupur looked no less than a patient herself, who might collapse any second if given the chance. And Mayank and Nupur avoided much interaction with each other after last night's confrontation. They were only together for Khushi's sake and decided not to let their differences get the best of them.
"Dr, Sara can I see you outside for a second" Neil asked walking towards the door with a file in his hand. Nupur felt anxious seeing the tension on his face, she knew something was wrong, her gut feeling was never wrong. It was not wrong about Mayank and today it's not wrong about those results. Sara got up to go, but Nupur kept a firm hold on her hand.
"Nupur?"
"No Sara will not go anywhere with you Neil. Just tell me the truth, don't test a mothers patience Neil." Neil eyes met with Sara who blinked with affection.
"I agree with Nupur Neil, Just tell us, did the bone marrow match?" Neil gazed down on the floor and avoided Mayank and Nupur's hawk like gaze. Sara grabbed Nupur's hand, "don't worry Nupur, I'm sure we can find another way out"
"Look Nupur, Khushi is doing very well with her therapy treatment, I'm sure god is not that cruel to take away a child from her mother" Neil said comfortingly but still there was no response. Nupur just sat their like a statue, not saying anything just staring into space avid of any emotions.
"Nupur, you have to be strong, for Khushi, You can't break down like this" Sara said reassuring her, but Nupur was mum. Neil shook her gently to make sure she was okay "Nupur'"
"Hmm..." Nupur said snapping out her thoughts, "are you okay?" Sara asked softly. She could very well see the hidden pain in nupurs eyes. She was trying to be strong, but inside she had already shattered into millions of pieces.
"Isn't there some other way?" Mayank who had been quiet all along finally spoke up grabbing everyone's attention.
Nupur was quick to response before either Sara or Neil had the chance too, "No there isn't" Neil looked at her in disbelieve and Mayank found something rather suspicious about her quick reply
"Nupur tell me the truth, this is not only about your daughter, she is part of me also" Mayank said quite irrated, Nupur looked back at him vigorously, "Mayank you might be her father but I'm her mother, she was inside me for 9 months, I have raised her with all my love in these past 5 years, don't question me. When the only person you should be questioning is yourself because this happened because of you" Nupur screamed at him, her words echoed off the walls, it felt as if time had stood still for them, there was pin drop silence in the room.
"Me? I didn't even know she existed all these years, you can't expect me to feel sorry for you that you raised her all alone when you never gave me the chance to be in her life until today. When she is on the verge of'."
"Don't you dare say anything Mayank, Khushi is and will be fine?" Mayank looked at nupur in disbelieve even after all this she was still stuck not believing the reality.
"Guys, calm down this not the time to bring up any vengeance, we have to think about Khushi" Sara said sensing the atmosphere becoming tense in the room.
"There is another way" Neil said quietly, surprising nupur who was trying to stay away from that topic, "no there isn't neil! I have said It already, we have tried everything and you yourself said her therapy is going quiet well, I'm sure she will be fine"
"Nupur will you snap out of it, Khushi is not fine and you know that too" Neil yelled trying to make her understand but Nupur was firm on her decision.
"Neil, if there is some other way than tell me, I will do anything for Khushi" Mayank pleaded to Neil who looked towards Nupur, contemplating what he should say.
"the only other way is, if Khushi had a brother or sister"
"But Khushi'" Mayank paused and realized what Neil meant by his words, "oh, you mean that if I and "his gaze averted to nupur who was shooting angry glares towards him.
"Yes, that is the only way I'm afraid" Mayank sighed, "than' before he could continue, Nupur spoke," than what? Mayank there is no than! This is will never happen"
"But nupur she is our daughter" Mayank argued but Nupur was adamant, "but I was your wife also and you seemingly forgot about that. Now suddenly the father in your wants to save his daughter, whom he never wanted in the first place"
"You never told me about her! If I knew.." Nupur again stopped his words, "if you knew than what you have done? Oh, I know ask me to abort her! Right?"
"That was different" Mayank said trying to make her understand, "No it was not Mayank that was your child, our child you made me kill it! Do you know? what it takes for a mother to kill her child? Ask me I know?" Nupur asked him with tears flowing down her cheeks, "I hear her every night, taunting me for killing her, what kind of a father asks a mother to kill their unborn child? A father like you and a husband like you"
Neil and Sara glanced at each other, "look guys, the past is the past! Your today is Khushi, can you for a while forget your differences and "
"No I can't Neil; I can't ever forget what he did to me! Mayank you broke my trust and I can never forgive for that"
"Nupur, Khushi is your daughter" Nupur rushed out of the room, before they could compel her to agree. What kind test was god putting her through, at one point there was her daughter, her everything and on the other her heart, which had been broken over and over by the same man, a man whom she once proudly called her husband. She stopped in front of the mirror and gazed at herself, there was sindoor in her forehead, but why was it there? And she was still wearing those beads Mayank had tied around her neck? What was the point of all this faade? Who was she trying to fool, this women died five years ago when she left that house, today standing before this mirror was Nupur, and only Nupur. She was no ones sister, wife, or friend but only a mother. She was only a mother.
Nupur pulled her hand back to open the necklace," Mama, I loveeeeee you" Nupur looked up confused and saw Khushi in the mirror.
"Khushi beta, what are you doing here?" Nupur asked dazzled by her presence, " mama, I wanna stay with your foeva. I wanna make fench fries with you, and sing the barney song. I love you" Nupur eyes became water, "Mama won't let Khushi go anywhere I promise, No one can take away Khushi from her mama"
"no mama, they take me away" Nupur gasped watching Khushi's eyes close slightly, " bye mama, I'm going way from you.." Nupur extended her hand to grab Khushi and came to realize it was only a hallucination of her mind.
Nupur held her hand to heart, "Khushi I promise beta, nothing will happen to you" she said to herself. Indeed she was a mother but the only difference was Mayank's presence was making her think like a wife, his wife but today she was no more his wife, she was Khushi's mother. She needed to think like mother and not become tangled over the past because it would only bring her more pain.

"Where are we going?" Nupur asked starring out the window, as the warm breeze splashed on her face sending shivers down her spine.
"Can you please answer my questions" Mayank concentrated on the driving and found it not necessary to reply back to her, Nupur was irked but she remained silent for the rest of the drive.
"why didn't you tell me?" he asked in a hushed tone, somewhere he knew he was responsible for all of this, but what happened between him and nupur was not any reason to not tell him about his daughter, his blood.
"I was angry" nupur said not looking back at him, "but nupur she is my daughter"
"Mayank I was your wife" Mayank closed his eyes in reconciliation and remained silent for the rest of the ride. He didn't need any further explanation, she was right if he couldn't stay truthful to his wife, how would have he have taken care of his Khushi?
" She wants to meet you" unconsciously a smile formed on his lips, for the matter than at least Khushi knew he existed, even though they had never met, she knew she had a father.
"I'll come by tonight" Mayank said eagerly but nupur replied, " no come tomorrow, I have told her tomorrow and I don't want her to think I lied"
"Salt?" Nupur, smiled as she revived the moments she had spent with Mayank here, all those precious moments shared between them and because of him they were now nothing but a reminder of his betrayal.
"I thought you would like something to eat, while we discuss something important?" nupur hesitated but than she followed him inside, her eyes immediately found the corner table where they always use to dine. The place where Mayank had proposed to her, she knew it would be hard, but she swallowed her pride and sat down at the reserved table.
"nothings changed" Mayank quoted picking up the menu, " nothing except us, and our relationship " nupur replied gazing into his eyes directly, there was a time when those eyes made her feel like the most beautiful women in the world. Today they just taunt her that he could never become hers.
"and this menu also changed" she added distracting herself, " at least something has changed here" she laughed abit to hide her pain but Mayank saw right through her.
"Shall we order?" Mayank called over the waiter and read their order to him. While the food was being made both found ways to distract themselves.
"Are we never going to talk about it?" nupur looked at him confused, "about?"
"about having another child" Nupur looked down sadly, "I have said It once and I'll say it again, Khushi will be fine we don't need to do this, besides i would rather die a slow painful death to have you touch me" she gawked at the bear image, but Mayank understood she was only denying the reality because there was too much pain for her to handle.
"You're not fooling anyone"
"And neither are you! All this concern and care now, won't get you forgiveness for the past" Nupur shot back, but remained calm as she saw the waiter walk up their table side.
The waiter ever so smoothly placed the food on the table and left without any remark on the couple. Nupur started to play around with her salad, while Mayank took the liberty to pour him and nupur a drink. Nupur who was busy in her food failed to notice as he slipped something in the drink.
"Nupur are you sure about your decision?"
"as sure as I was about leaving you" Nupur taunted back, she was already stressed out and with the re-entry of Mayank in her life its was not a grande affair for her. She was rather infuriated and irked by the fact that he wouldn't let it go, after having told me many times that she would never have another child with him.
"Nupur ' ", "Mayank just let eat in peace, I wish to have no further decision on that topic, if there is something else you want to talk to me about than go on" Mayank decided to lie low for the being, he knew she was just running away from the truth and he would do anything to make sure she would not repent that she never took the needed measurements to save her own daughter. Their daughter to be exact.
Mayank watched wholehearted as nupur engulfed the drink and within few moments became quiet irrational with her talks and remarks, as that point he knew the drink had done its work.
"Mayank I feel tired" Nupur said loudly, yawning and stretching her arms around.
"Do you want to go home?" she nodded like a two year kid, shaking her head up and down cutely, "I want to go home, right now"
Mayank paid the bill and headed out with a stumbling nupur who couldn't keep up with her balance. He placed her in the car and sat into the driver seat.
"are we going home?" nupur asked confused playing around with her hair, Mayank shook his head, " yes, we are going home"
He drove away from the restaurant, right than his cell phone rang. Nupur had passed out so he just picked up the phone, "hi Neil, Thank you so much. The tablet worked" he replied looking towards nupur.
"Yes, I promise you everything I'm doing is for Khushi and Nupur; I know she will never be able to forgive herself if she lost Khushi because of her one stubborn decision"
"Yea, okay bye" He closed the phone, within a while he pulled into his drive way and helped a conscious and unconscious nupur into their house.
He walked to their bedroom, or his bedroom and he placed her onto the bed carefully making sure she was okay. He took one look at her to make sure he was doing no wrong.
"Mayank I feel sleepy" Nupur said pulling the comforter above herself, Mayank dimmed the lights and joined her bed.
"I love you nupur" he slowly caressed her face and she gazed into his eyes smiling, and blushing.
The sun shone through the window, directly hitting nupurs face, who groaned in immense displeasure because the suns rays were directly hitting her eyes. Her head was throbbing and her hands were asleep every part of her body was slightly numb. She opened her eyes slowly and looking around finding nothing familiar in this room that until her eyes found a picture of mayank placed on the side table. She immediately got up and covered herself with the blanket. She closed her eyes in pain and tears slid out as the realization sunk in of what might have happened last night.
On the side table there was a note, Nupur picked it up slowly still crying and cursing herself and mayank.
Nupur,
I know you might never forgive me for what happened last night, and it doesn't matter to me because i don't want you to hate yourself for making a decision that would one day take your daughter away from you. I know you would have never let me touch you because of what i did in the past, But i just want to say Please don't blame yourself for anything, I take all the blame. And what i did last night was for Khushi, Our daughter.

"Thank you Mayank" Nupur wiped her tears and knew mayank was right. what happened last night might have never happened if she was in her senses, because she could never let mayank touch her after what he had done. He could never trust him again. But whatever happened last night was for khushi and it would bear nothing in hers and mayank relationship. She hated him then and she hates him now.

Okay, well i know some of you are finding this story quite familiar or think you have read it before, I think i know why. Actually a good friend pointed out to me that my concept what queit similar to Adi's story "maybe" ..her story is based on the same issue. But i promise that i never knew she had written a story on it until Nivi told me, otherwise i would have never written this story. I would never take someone else's idea without giving due credit, so i apologize. Now its up to you to believe my words or not. I'm quite embarrased.
But this story is quite different from Adi's in the way that my style of writing and the events would differ immensely from Adi's story.
Okay so now thats aside, I hope you enjoy the Part. I'm sorry for any mistakes, i really didn't check over this part.
