@Neet: Oops, sorry, the update's a wee bit late... Plus, I don't mind your lamba comments...In fact I LOVE THEM
Ok guys, so srsly, this update in my opinion is really stupid. I mean, I have no idea why I even wrote it! I was on the verge of deleting it and re-writing, but that would take too long...
Seriously, if you think it's baqwaas, I won't blame you. In fact, it's probably best if you don't read it. No wait, that would be a waste of several hours of my precious time. Just read it and tell me how stupid it was:
Chapter 20:
Right. So before anyone could get a grip on it, exam week was right on top of everyone. By everyone I mean Sue, Shilpa, Sid and Riddhima. We will comfortably assume that Naina's and Yuvi's exams had been completed back in India before they came for a trip to Boston.
Some long trip, that's all I can say.
Naina: Papa please! I don't want to be stuck with Yuvi - Yuvraaj for five whole days!!! Please mujhe bhi apne saath le jaayein! I love Miami! Aap ko kyun lagta hai ke main wahaan bore ho jaaon gi???
(Naina's dad is not the same one as in the serial. Just imagine some tall, well-built uncle who looks a bit like Naina)
Mr Mehta (uncomfortably): Naina, Mr & Mrs Oberoi ne tumhe bohat pyaar se apne ghar invite kia hai. Aur ab tumhe Yuvraaj ke saath hone ki kya zaroorat hai? Tum bilkul normally apna time guzaar sakti ho, bas yun samjho ke tumhara ghar change ho gaya hai!
Naina (desperately): Papa, mein KYUN Miama nahi aa sakti aap aur Mom ke saath? I'll pay for my ticket myself agar aap yeh chahte hain, lekin PLEASE let me come with you!!!
Mr Mehta (trying to be all firm and fatherly): Tumhe koi zaroorat nahi humare saath aane ki kyunke main saara din meetings mein hoon ga aur tumhari mom NGOs ke saath. Tumhe hum wahaan akele phir nahi chod sakte hain!
Naina was about to protest when her father said, "AND THAT'S FINAL." (He didn't say this in an angry or mean way. Just in a that's-final kinda way.)
Naina went out of the room, muttering to herself (Note: My Naina mutters a lot) "Five days. FIVE FREAKING DAYS OF LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSE AS THAT WEIRDO!!! SOMEONE KILL ME NOW!!!"
"Hi Naina!"
"What the - YUVI?????"
"Yup, it's me! Did you miss me?" He said sarcastically.
"Yeah, you wish!" Naina rolled her eyes.
"Don't be rude. I'm just here to pick you up."
"Pick me? Why would that be?" said Naina in a skeptical tone.
"Hasn't uncle told you?" said Yuvi incredulously.
"Told me what?" Naina was getting more and more suspicious by the second.
"That you're staying at MY house for the next five days??"
"NEXT five days???? WHAAAT???? PAPAAA!!!" Naina shrieked and ran back to the sitting room where her Mom and Dad were... and her Dad was picking up some suitcases.
"You're leaving TODAY??? Abhi? NOW???" Naina could not believe this. She hadn't expected her parents to leave for at least two more days. Yuvi stood at the doorway.
"Haan. Naina? Kya hua beta? Didn't I tell you?" said her dad innocently. Too innocently.
"MOM!!! WHAT's GOING ON???" Naina was nearly in tears of anger and exasperation.
Mrs Mehta shot her husband an angry glance. Then said to Naina"Nothing's going on sweetheart. Why are you so excited?"
Naina could not say "BECAUSE YOU ARE SENDING ME TO LIVE WITH THIS MORON IN HIS HOUSE FOR FIVE DAYS WITHOUT EVEN GIVING ME EVEN 10 MINUTES TO MENTALLY PREPARE MYSELF!!!" She just said, fuming inwards, "Nothing. Just... Have a nice trip." She hugged her parents a bit roughly and gave her dad a look that seemed to say: You are paying for this BIG time.
Her dad seemed to understand this (so because this was a look Naina had inherited from her mother) and so hurried out to the door. Her mom kissed her forehead and said sweetly, "We'll get you something nice from Miami, okay sweetie? Get your stuff and lock the doors when you leave. The spare keys are in the kitchen. Have fun, okay? "
Naina was screaming in her head: HAVE FUN??? HAVE FUN???? IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE SOME SORT OF JOKE????
Outwards, she just nodded. " 'Kay. Bye Mom."
As her Mom went out, Naina followed her and saw her dad saying something to Yuvi, who was smiling and nodding. Mr Mehta patted Yuvi on the back and got into his car. Naina and Yuvi both waved to them until they were out of sight.
Naina swallowed her anger and, without so much as a glance at Yuvi, went to get her things. She got down the stairs with a small suitcase and a little holdall. She set about locking the doors and shutting the windows. Yuvi was still standing in the doorway watching these proceedings with a smile on his face.
When all was done, Naina went past Yuvi as if he wasn't even there and sat in the back seat of his car, banging the door behind her. When Yuvi didn't move from his place, Naina irritably pressed the horn. Yuvi, still smiling, got into the driver's seat and revved up the engine...
--------------
Sid and Riddhima were busy revising for their finals. At Riddhima's place. Together. (And just for the record, Sid still doesn't know due to no opportunity of getting alone time, like ever) Right now, they were sitting on the floor of the lounge, their books spread around them and Sid was explaining something to Ridzy, who was nodding her head, a frown of concentration on her face. It was their last paper the day after; History was the only one left. A difficult one too as they had spent all their lives studying the history of the subcontinent and now it was of North America.
Whatever.
Sue and Shilpa were at Sue's place as they had agreed that studying would be very difficult if they were tempted to spy on their precious Siddhima. Now and then, Padma or Shashank walked in. Right now Padma came and got her purse from the lounge. She caught Riddhima's eye and smiled at her. Ridzy smiled back.
Padma left the room, a worried look replacing her smile. She went over to her husband and said in an unusually serious voice, "Shashank, when are you going to tell her?"
Shashank, who was also looking worried, replied, "Soon enough. I didn't want to tell her yet as her finals are going on. It might unbalance her, you know how sensitive she is..."
"Her last paper is tomorrow, will you tell her then?"
"Yes I will."
"Lekin Shashank... are you sure it's the right thing? Can't you see how happy she is with Sid? I mean SIddhant..."
"Dekho Padma, Riddhima is too young to know her mind now. How does she know who will be ideal for her to spend her whole life with? She'll get tired of him before long, it's just -"
"Do you really believe that?" asked Padma skeptically. *Long pause* Padma got up "Think about it."
Inside, Riddhima slammed her book shut, "Finally!!! I think that covers everything!"
Sid stretched his legs and took a deep breath. "I think we should take a break, no?" He looked and Riddhima meaningfully, "And clear up a few things. What do you think?"
Riddhima went red slightly and, not meeting his eyes, said, "Sure. No problem."
They got up and went out. Riddhima called to her parents that she was going to get Shilpa. When they reached Sid's car, Sid turned to Riddhima. (They're not in the car, yet)
"Alright Riddhima, it's about time you told me whatever it was that you were supposed to tell me like, what, weeks ago!!! What - has - your - dad - planned - for - you?"
Riddhima thinking: Crap crap crap!
Riddhia saying out loud: Ok ok. *Deep breath* Look don't get mad at... well, anyone, ok? And please don't, well, react, ok? Oh God, this is so hard... I probably shouldn't tell you today, maybe it'll mess up your head and you won't perform well in the final tomorrow...
Sid *rolling his eyes*: I swear Riddhima, the problem won't be as big as the amount of your worrying.
Riddhima hit him. "Ow!" Sid rubbed his arms. "Can you please just get on with it, I'm dying here! I've been dying for the past three weeks!! Just TELL MEEE!!!!"
(Poor Sid. SRSLY)
Riddhima took another deep breath. She opened her mouth to say something. Closed it again. Then said, "I can't say it Sid."
"RIDDHIMA!!"
"I'm sorry. Take out your cell and I'll text you."
"Oh God Riddhima, what is the big deal???" said an exasperated Sid. But Riddhima was already typing on her cell phone. Then, she suddenly threw it into the car ans said, "You're right, I'm just being a drama queen. Look Sid, the thing is that Anjie told me that Papa-wants-me-to-get-married-to-his-friend's-son-because-of-some-idiotic-male-ego-issues. There! I said it! No big deal, no big deal at all. Seriously Sid, there's no need to get excited or angry over this, I'm sure Papa will drop it since he hasn't even mentioned it to me yet. That means it wasn't important at all or maybe Papa changed his mind or something, but whatever the case is I'll never leave you - Sid?"
A common habit shared by the Gupta sisters was that whenever something serious was said or being done, they launched into comforting tittle-tattle and didn't stop talking for at least 40 seconds. But now that Riddhima concentrated on Sid's expressions, he didn't look very comforted. He looked...shocked to say the least.
"Sid? Are you okay?" Riddhima asked in a worried tone.
"Are you serious????" Sid didn't seem to have heard her question on his well-being.
"Yes..." Riddhima whispered. For some reason, she felt like she wanted to cry. Part of it was relief at finally telling Sid and being able to talk about it with him. Part of it was re-realization of the fact. And part of it was female-teenage hormones.
"WHY didn't you tell me before???" Sid asked in a somewhat angry voice.
"Because - because - oh because I thought you'd be mad at me or something. Or you'd leave me - or t-tell me to listen t-to Papa - or - oh Sid!" And Riddhima burst into tears, burying her face in her hands and sobbing.. (Oh and people please don't forget that we're dealing with teenagers here)
Sid's anger at not-being-told-before evaporated in seconds. He took Ridzy in his arms and hugged her tightly, saying in a gentle voice, "Tum ro kyun rahi ho? Please stop crying Ridzy, I can't stand seeing you cry. Do you really think I would leave you over a thing like this? Just like that?"
Riddhima buried her face in his chest and sobbed, while saying in a muffled voice, "I'm s-sorry, I'm sorry! I d-don't even kn-now why I'm c-crying. So s-silly and st-tupid of me. S-sorry Sid!"
Sid smiled in spite of the situation. He stroked Riddhima's hair while saying, "Oh c'mon, don't apologise for crying! What am I going to do with you? Seriously Riddhima!"
Ridzy gave a shaky laugh as her sobs quietened. However she still didn't let go of him or get out of his arms. She felt so secure and relieved in her current position that she couldn't pull back. So they stayed like this for a few long moments, until Sid finally broke the embrace. He held her damp face in his hands close to his face and said, "Done? Don't worry about anything okay? We'll solve this problem together. Now smile."
Riddhima smiled weakly. However, most probably her rapid heartbeat at the *ahem* distance between her and Sid kinda made up for her lack of facial expression.
"Much better," whispered Sid and tilted down to brush his lips against hers. Nothing much, just a feather-light touch of his lips to hers, but did Riddhima stop there?
Oh no she didn't.
Apparently Riddhima doesn't do things half way. When Sid's lips touched hers, she just about lost what little control over herself she had left. Her hands moved from his chest to his hair, where she tightened her grip on his untidy locks, and pulled him closer to herself. Their mouths moved in synchronisation with each other's, while Riddhima leaned against the car. Sid pulled back very slightly for a second and whispered huskily against her lips, "Seriously, what am I going to do with you? First you start crying all over me for no reason and then when I try to comfort you, you assault me! I ask you, is that fair?"
Riddhima really smiled this time and said, "Oh shut up Sid," and reached up on tiptoe to kiss him again.
"Ahem ahem," someone cleared her throat near them in an amused manner. SR jumped apart as if electrocuted. Shilpa was standing in front of them hands on her hips, while Sue was just beside her, playing with her cell phone in an unconvincingly casual manner.
"Sh-shilpa? What are you doing here?" Riddhima asked in a ruffled voice.
"I live here, in case you've forgotten," said Shilpa in a light voice. She seemed really happy for some reason.
"No, I mean I was just coming to pick you..." said Riddhima trailing off, adding mentally in her head 'and maybe spend some free time with Sid...'
"Yeah well, me and Sue finished revising and we're so poofed that we can't even think of another shopping trip," said Shilpa shuddering. "So we thought we'd hang out with you... two... but if you're busy we could just move on," she added in a teasing voice, while putting on that innocent-Shilpa look on her face.
All in all, it couldn't have been more obvious that Shilpa had seen them kissing.
Sue: 1, Shilpa: 1, SR:0.
So Riddhima was blushing like anything while saying, "Nahi nahi, we're okay, let's all go eat some ice-cream together or something..."
"GREAT IDEA," said Sue suddenly, scaring everybody. "ICE-CREAM SOUNDS AWESOME!"
"Umm Sue," said Shilpa, rubbing her ears. "Volume kum kar yaar!"
"OH SORRY! I STILL CAN'T HEAR PROPERLY!" said Sue in a cheerful voice.
"Sue's got a temporary fit of deafness," explained Shilpa as they got into the car. "I think some water went in her ear or something..."
"WHAT'S THAT?" said Sue.
"NOTHING!" replied Shilpa.
-------------
Ice-cream place:
They reached the small cafe that sold delicious scoops of ice-cream all of them loved. Sid and Ridzy didn't get a a chance to discuss the problem with the two angels/devils behind them, but now and then whenever Ridzy would look at Sid he would give her a reassuring smile and that would pacify Ridzy. *Sigh*
"OMG LOOK!" said Sue, in an excited voice.
Everyone looked. And, OMG, Yuvi and Naina!!! The four of them were out of the car in seconds.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" asked Sue loudly. The servers and few people present stared at her. Shilpa nudged her. Sue clapped her hand over her mouth, and whispered, "Sorry." (It was a loud whisper)
Naina was looking disgruntled while waiting for her ice cream at the counter. Yuvi was, as usual, all-cool and leaning against the counter. He said, "Hi guys!"
"Hey Yuvi!" said Shilpa *high five* "Hey Naina!"
"Hey," said Naina in a voice that was almost a growl. Shilpa stood still. "What happened to you? Is anything wrong?"
Yuvi explained, "Her parents ditched - I mean left her and went to Miami. And she has to stay at my house till they get back."
Shilpa stared at both of them. And said after a few seconds, "Uh-huh. Sooo what's the bad part?"
Naina said, "That is the bad part! I have to stay with this idiot at his house for five whole days!"
Naina's voice was loud enough that Sue could hear. Sid and Riddhima were ordering ice-creams. Sue said in a mischievous voive, "Ummm... rrright...so if you hate him so much, who told you to hang out with him??" Shilpa high-fived her.
Naina turned red. "For your information I don't have any means of transportation so I had to ask HIM *glares at Yuvi* to get me somewhere." Turning to Yuvi, she then said, "You can go now. I mean, GO NOW!
"Huh, no way. These are my friends too, so I'll hang out with them and ignore you. How's that?" said Yuvi, putting one arm around Sue's shoulders and the other around Shilpa's. The soulsisters suppressed their giggles with difficulty
Naina rolled her eyes. "Perfect!"
Ridzy handed Shilpa and Sue their ice-creams. And added, "Umm, Naina, your ice-cream is melting." The poor thing had been left on the counter and completely ignored by a fuming Naina.

While the others were thick in the middle of a heated discussion of whether Harry Potter or Twilight was better (someone please kill me now), Riddhima was slumped with her head on her arms (on the table) and gazing in Sid's direction without really looking at him. She was thinking about what to do next. She had quickly caught on to the fact that her dad was probably waiting for the right time, which was not in the middle of exam week. But after that...what? So she was thinking up random plans that would get her parents convinced...:
Plan A: Act all filmi and blabber on al day about how she couldn't live without Sid, and he was her soulmate and this would be a thing she'll never get over, and how she'll never be happy ever... blah blah blah. The catch: Riddhima hated acting filmi and plus she wasn't a very good actress any way.
Plan B: Flat-out refuse. The catch: They were her parents. Parents can make you do almost anything.
Plan C: Run away with Sid. The catch: They were too young.
Plan D: Keep her parents on the edge of 'maybe'. Then after she and Sid were both professionals and stable, they'd run away then. The catch: She'd feel guilty for like forever.
Plan E: Say that she was too young for these things right now and she'll make up her mind when she was...25 or something. The catch: Most probably there will be no choice.
Plan F: Listen to them. The catch: She'd die (metaphorically speaking) without Sid.
Plan G: -
Riddhima hadn't even noticed that the others were gone. It was only when Sid said, "Riddhima?" that she came out of her reverie and noticed that they were the only ones left.
"Yeah Sid?" she said in a slightly hoarse tone, as her voice was a bit rough from lack of use.
"Kya soch rahi ho?" Now Sid imitated her and put his head on his arms (on the table) and looked at her.
"Nothing special. Bas yeh ke mein kya karoon gi jab Papa... you know... mujhe batayein ge," she said in a low voice.
Sid sat up and said, "Riddhima, I swear if I find you worrying about this one more time, I'll - I'll - okay fine, so I don't know what I'll do. But seriously you-are-taking-too-much-pressure! Just... just wait for the thing to happen first and then think about what your options should be!!"
"But - but that's like saying to first give the exam and study later!" said Riddhima.
"Okay, I admit that you're right, but this is different! Maybe your papa and his friend will have a fallout even before you reach a marriageable age ("Ha! I wish!" snorted Ridzy.) or something! He might even drop the matter completely, so just wait a bit before you think of any dramatic plans or speeches!"
Riddhima gasped, because this was almost exactly what she had been thinking about, and got up in anger. "Oh, so you thought was planning to be a drama queen????" (Thank GOD there weren't any customers around. And server should be used to this kind of drama going on, lol)
"Huh, what, no! Of course not! I was just saying that -" Sid started to defend himself but Riddhima cut in, "You were clearly implying that I shouldn't act dramatic! And what does that make me??? A drama queen!!!" and she stalked out of the cafe. She's very touchy (read: chudail-y) about matters like these. (Don't ask me why)
Sid got up to follow her. However, he was delayed when the guy at the counter reminded him that he hadn't paid.By the time he was out of the cafe, he could only just see her turning around the corner. She had, in fact, remembered that she had come with Sid and didn't have the keys to his car. Oh shoot. So much for a dignified walk-out and not-speaking for the rest of the day.
She took out her mobile and was on the verge of asking Shilpa to get back from wherever she was and pick her. However, Sid wasn't that slow. He grabbed her hand, pulled her and said, "Someone's angry today."
"Sid, let me go," Riddhima said, trying to free herself from his grip. "And where exactly are you going to go?" said Sid in a teasing voice.
Oh shoot. "I'm - I'll call Shilpa to take me!" she retorted in what was hopefully a confident and angry tone. "Oh no you're not," said Sid, and suddenly, the ground was gone from beneath Ridzy's feet. Sid had lifted Ridzy up, no problem. Riddhima, shocked out of her mind, said, "Sid!!! What do you think you're doing?!?!?"
"Taking you to my car," was the casual response.
"I CAN WALK YOU KNOW!" shouted Riddhima, who was forced to put her arms around Sid's neck for support.
"Yeah, I know."
"SIIID! PUT ME DOWN NOW! PEOPLE WILL SEE US!"
"Your shouting isn't gonna help that."
"Sid, I demand that you put me down NOW."
"No way. This is much more fun than I thought." They had almost reached Sid's car.
"HEY GUYS!" Sue appeared. Out of nowhere as usual.
"SUE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU NEARLY GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK!" Riddhima yelled.
"OH I'M SORRY RIDZ DI!!! I JUST THOUGHT THAT I HEARD YOU SHOUTING AT BRO SO I JUST DROPPED IN TO INVESTIGATE! I'LL JUST MOVE ON! BYE!"
"Sid, you really need to do something about your sister's hearing," said Riddhima, shaking her head as Sue went off. Then, looking at Sid, she said, "Can you PLEASE put me down now?"
"Ok, ok." Sid put her down slowly. "Happy?"
"Yes! Thank you!" said Riddhima, but something in her tone wasn't exactly very pleased. It was almost as if she had hoped that Sid wouldn't put her down but - Ah well.
"You have to admit that was kind of fun," said Sid teasingly.
"No it wasn't... it was plain rude and embarrassing! Never do that again"
"Oh really?" Suddenly Sid was right in front of her, his face inches from hers. Riddhima gulped as she moved backwards. "Yes," she said in a supposedly confident voice. And then, her back hit the car. Again. No escape available. "Do you really believe that? Didn't you enjoy being in my arms?" asked Sid huskily, moving closer (imagine lift wala scene) his eyes looking deep into hers. Riddhima was currently getting lost in his eyes and mumbled, "No... I mean Yes... I mean..." Sid kept on moving closer, "Would you really want me not to do it again?" Riddhima was getting confused. She didn't even remember what we were talking about,"No..." Sid replaced a lock of her hair behind her ear, this time cms apart from her "Do you love me?"
"Of course I do," whispered Riddhima. Then some random movement caught her eye and she snapped out of it and pushed Sid away. "OMG, Sid what are you trying to do? SEDUCE ME??" That was when she noticed what had caught her eye: Yuvi, Naina and Shilpa. Right outside the parking lot. Laughing.
Riddhima gave Sid one look and got into his car. "Let's get out of here, QUICKLY!!!" she hissed. And for once Sid didn't argue.
.
.
.
.
.
"Do you really think I was trying to seduce you?"
"Shut up Sid."

I swear, I don't even know what I am writing! Please please forgive me! Let me find something to blame... Oh yeah. My mom gave me this pill that is full of vitamins and stuff like that, and so instead of super-powering my brain and giving me wonderful ideas for my FF, it made me stupid.
Someone please kill me now.
Love you all, (and sorry if u hate it/ think it's baqwaas)
