Chapter 48: Shock and Awe

"Holy Moly! Who is that?" Shashank ignored the first such comment, his attention focused solely on the problem that he was working on. But the comments came again from multiple parties and before long, Anil poked him on the arm and said, "Dude, she is walking down this way."

He finally looked away from his computer screen towards Anil and saw his co-worker gesturing towards the other side of the room. He looked over. Holy Shit!

He hadn't realized that he had gotten up from his chair until Anil stopped him. "Do you know her?"

He nodded before he walked towards her. He swore, the woman gave new meaning to Shock and Awe.

He could see all the men – and several women – stare intently at her; he hastened his pace and walked over to take her by the arm to lead her out the exit. She came without resisting or making a scene and for that he was glad. With her, you never knew.

He took a deep breath to make sure his voice was calm and tried not to look her up and down – dressed in a mini-skirt and stilettoes, of all things, to come into his office with all the "nerdy engineers" as she liked to call him and his co-workers – and finally asked, "what are you doing here?"

"Do you know you are a very hard man to reach by phone? So, if you don't pick up your phone when I call, prepare for rude surprises like this one."

"What do you want, Thalia?"

"Hmm… why does everyone keep asking me that? First Shiv, now you. It's not like I ever hide what I want."

He felt an unaccountable rage when he heard Shiv's name and turned away so that she wouldn't catch him gritting his teeth.

"I am busy. So, if the point of your pointless visit was to ask me why everyone asks you what you want, then I think we are done talking." His hand was on the doorknob when she spoke.

"I swear to God Shashank, if you walk back in there without hearing me out, I will come into your office and strip for all your geeky friends and you will have to hear about their wet dreams about me from now until eternity."

He took another deep breath as he prayed for patience to not kill her and turned around.

"Go on. I really wouldn't want my "geeky friends" to expire from nightmares."

Ouch… that struck a nerve. She looked at him standing there with that perpetually unruffled face of his and for a moment, she really did want to strip… just to see his reaction… but as much guts as she had to do it in front of an office full of people, she didn't have the guts to do it just in front of him. Because, she was about 98% sure that he wouldn't bat an eyelash and would likely cock that supercilious eyebrow of his and tell her to wrap it up quickly so that he could go back to living his life to its perpetual dullness.

"I just thought that you should know that Dhruv is having a party at his house next week and yours truly has an invitation. I think Dhruv just likes drama, but hey, who am I to deny him? Please don't leave me hanging, Mr. Romeo, like you did the last time. Seriously, sometimes I wonder how you ever managed to get that girl to fall in love with you when she grew up with someone as exciting and virile as Shiv. But then again, she doesn't look like she has good taste in men." She shrugged at her own conclusion.

He decided then that he needed a Lifetime Achievement Award already for dealing with her for twenty-eight miserable years!

"Why are you going?" He asked the plainly obvious question.

"Ai ai ai… someone please shoot me! Did you get a lobotomy since the last time I spoke with you? Alright, let me see if I can break this down for you step by step. I – Am – Planning – On – Seducing – Shiv. Okaaay? And You – Work – On – Getting – Back – That – Silly – Chit – That – You – Claim – To – Be – In – Love – With. Capiche?"

"It seems that you are the one who does not seem to understand something as simple as STAY OUT OF IT."

"You know what, Shashank? I am planning on seducing Shiv anyways. He is sexy as hell and completely wasted on that chick. So, it would behoove you to protect your girl over there, lest she turn to some other gentleman in her misery." She smirked.

"She is not like you." He said with complete dispassion.

She knew that for all the insults that she heaped on him on a steady basis, she should not be offended when he dished back some of his own. But knowing knew nothing of feeling…

"Are you willing to take that chance? At the very least, she will be publicly humiliated when her husband is seen cavorting with another woman, don't you think? So, like I said before, play this game carefully. Because if you lose, their marriage will have fallen apart for nothing."

"Thalia, maybe you should ask yourself why you are really doing all this? Because it can't be just for me. Let's be honest, you have never been all that concerned about what happens in my life. So save yourself the trouble this time around too and just go back to being the self-centered bitch that is the role that you have crafted to perfection for yourself."

Even though he said as much, his expression remained as aloof as ever. But she smiled nevertheless. "I believe that is the first time that you have called me a bitch. I am starting to wear you down."

"I was merely stating a fact." was his only reply.

"So you say… so you say…" she smiled once more before sashaying down the stairs and out of the building.

Shiv is d most misunderstood person. Shanky thinks that he cannot resist beautiful gals & Thalia is quite confident of seducing him. Both of them do not know that Shiv has eyes only for Gauri.

Plus everybody forgets that Gauri is beauty wid brains.

D last 2 updates have reinforced my thinking abt ST's feelings.

Shiv can b so stupid at times. SG r champs in avoiding each other. Atleast they r back at warming each other. I doubt SG would leave any place unutilised in d house.

P.S. R u a fan of ekta maiyaa? Gauri's slapping spree seems inspired from her shows.

Slapping is a common feature of every Ekta show & saas-bahu sagas in general.

I didnot know that slapping has been a rage in Europe. Maybe Ekta was also inspired from Europe. Even in Ekta shows it's woman's prerogative.
