Part- 28
Whatever happened the last evening was something which made both samrat and gunjan embarrassed to talk to each other. Neither they could forget it, nor could they think over it and solve the matter. Every effort made by gunjan to win her love brought nothing good, but only ended up with samrat being frustrated. Every time gunjan tried to simplify the matter, the things got more troublesome and entangled. But somewhere, these steps had started affecting samrat; he was persuaded to think about gunjan, about his relation with her, and about the love which was still there in his heart for her.
And on other hand, gunjan was slowly losing the hope of winning back samrat's love. The last evening was the proof, as she persuaded him to confess about his feelings, and instead of doing that, samrat once again behaved rudely towards her, making her realize that he had never been in love with her, and there was no hope for the same. She had lost all hopes.
The start of the day itself went dull, and any stranger could easily sense the problem in the atmosphere of the house; suhani was still a member of this family, and she easily read gunjan's face. The way she served breakfast was a big proof to this. No good morning, no calling for breakfast, but simply serving the breakfast as if she were a maid of this house; these all gave suhani a hint that gunjan was upset.
None spoke on the breakfast table. Both samrat and gunjan were quietly having their meal, but suhani, in between, looked at them, trying to sense the problem, but she couldn't. Though she was happy that SD will be back in the evening, but she was also worried to see her brother and sister-in-law upset.
Gunjan closed herself in the bedroom, once samrat and suhani left for office and college respectively. The last night wasn't enough for her to cry and let out her pains, as once again her eyes became teary, and all she did in the room was to kneel down and cry as much as she could by burying her face in both her hands.
"dekho, mujhe nahi pata ki ye sab karke tum kya prove karna chahti ho. But please, ye drama band karo." Samrat said, and turned back, "na toh maine tumse kabhi pyaar kiya hai, aur na hi kabhi kar sakta hun………….."
Why was samrat not ready to listen to her? She had made everything clear, that she had never loved armaan, even then samrat was not ready to accept this! Was this his ego? No, if it were his ego, he would've never been affected by gunjan's stay at his place, or when he had folded his arms around gunjan while sleeping some night before. There was something, which is supposed to be known by gunjan, but was still unknown to her. What was it?
Just then, gunjan heard a knock on the door. Suhani called out her name, asking her to open the door. Gunjan quickly wiped her tears, and making a normal face, she stood up and opened the door.
"suhani…………. Tum itni jaldi kaise………. Aa gayi?" gunjan asked, trying to act as much as normal she could.
"wo, aaj thodi tabiyat theek nahi lagi, isliye half day attend kar li." Replied suhani.
"tumhari tabiyat ko kya hua?"
"meri chhodo, pehle tum batao ki tumhe kya hua?" suhani interrupted.
"mujhe?" gunjan exclaimed, "mujhe kya hona hai?"
"dekho gunjan, main savere se dekh rahi hun, tumhare saath saath bhai ka mood bhi kharab lag raha hai. Main puchhna chahti thi, par bhai ke saamne puchhna theek nahi laga."
"puchhne se koi fayeda nahi hai suhani!" gunjan grinned slightly, "main toh sirf problem solve karna chahti thi……… tumhara bhai mera saath nahi dena chahta toh main kuchh nahi kar sakti!"
"aakhir baat kya hai gunjan?" suhani asked irritatingly, "kal raat kya hua tha? Tumne toh itna achha surprise plan kiya tha, taaki bhai tumse apni feelings ke baare mein baat kar sakein, par tum dono ko dekh kar aisa lagta hai jaise baat aur bigad gayi ho……."
"wahi toh hua hai suhani!" gunjan looked at her, "meri samajh nahi aata ki aisa hamesha mere saath hi kyun hota hai? Main baat ko jitna suljhana chahti hun, wo aur ulajhte jaate hain…………. Ek kadam aage leti hun, toh do kadam peeche aa jaati hun! Aisa kya galat kiya hai maine, jo samrat meri baat sunne ko taiyyar hi nahi hai?"
"bhai ne tumse kal kuchh kaha kya?" suhani asked.
"yehi toh problem hai, ki wo mujhse kuchh kehna hi nahi chahta hai!" gunjan cried, "main hazaar koshish karti hun, ki wo mujhse apne pyaar ke baare mein kahe, par use meri parwah hai hi nahi!
"aisi baat nahi hai gunjan. Bhai tumse bahut pyaar karta hai!"
"agar wo mujhse pyaar karta, toh kal jo kuchh bhi hua, wo kabhi nahi hota!"
"gunjan please, dekho tum pareshan mat ho……….main……….tum kaho toh main bhai se baat karun?"
"nahi suhani!" gunjan said, "is problem ko mujhe akele hi solve karna hoga."
"par……"
"maine kaha na?" gunjan interrupted, "main ye sab sambhaal loongi. Ab tak samrat ne apna gussa mujhe dikhaya hai. Ab meri baari hai……….main use dikhaungi, ki mera usse naraaz hona, uspar mera gussa karna, in sab cheezon se use farak padta hai. Ab tak maine sirf apna pyaar use dikhaya hai, ab nafrat bhi dikhaungi."
Gunjan's decision was firm. She was all set to show her angry side to samrat, knowing that it will definitely affect him. And she was being proved right, as whenever samrat used to return back from office, gunjan asked him for dinner, but today, she did not even bother to have a glimpse of him when he came back at home. Infact, when samrat reached in bedroom, he saw gunjan in a deep sleep. He looked at her confusingly for a moment, but then he unbuttoned his coat, threw it on sofa and walked in washroom with black T-shirt and trousers. Gunjan wasn't sleeping, but only letting samrat to know that she doesn't care for him. She opened her eyes, as she heard the sound of running water from bathroom.
When samrat came out, drying his hairs in towel, gunjan gave him an angry look, stepped down, and made her way outside the room. Samrat once again looked at her in confusion, but he too made himself busy in some other work, when the events of last evening came across his mind.
Thinking that everything would have been sorted out between samrat and gunjan, SD happily returned back from his business trip, and eagerly wished to see his son and daughter-in-law together. But his smiling face turned into an upset one, when suhani told everything to him, on his disappointment. How could his son behave in such a rude manner to gunjan? SD thought this, and wanted to express his anger on samrat, but suhani stopped him, saying that gunjan had strictly warned anyone not to interfere in this matter. And this was only because gunjan thought that she was the root of all these problems, and she would solve the problems by her own. Though SD or suhani wished to help gunjan, but they thought that gunjan solving all the problems would be much better, and they knew that she would do it, by hook or by crook.
At the dinner table, only gunjan, suhani and SD spoke among themselves, and samrat felt odd between these three. Even the food tasted bad to him, as it was cooked by gunjan in anger, and plus, he too was upset. Quickly finishing the dinner, he left from there.
"bhai ko koi farak padta bhi hai ya nahi?" suhani muttered to herself, chewing the food.
"farak padta hai suhani!" gunjan smiled, "use hamare narazgi se farak padta hai!"
"beta, hamare narazgi se zyada tumhari narazgi se farak padna chahiye!" SD said, "lekin ise dekho, araam se kha-pi raha hai!"
"aisa nahi hai papa!" gunjan interrupted, "main jaanti hun, samrat ko meri narazgi se farak pad raha hai………..use meri khamoshi bilkul pasand nahi hai…par kal jo hua, us wajah se wo bhi pareshan hai………….isliye shayad wo mujhse kuchh keh nahi raha hai….par ek na ek din toh wo mujhse zarur baat karega."
"tum bas ek baar keh do gunjan, main bhai se baat karne ke liye taiyyar hun." Suhani said.
"bilkul bhi nahi!" gunjan said at once, "main jaanti hun suhani ki tumhe in sab se bahut takleef ho rahi hai, par ye saari problems meri wajah se hi shuru hui hain……….aur main akele hi in problems se ladna chahti hun……..jaisa ho raha hai, waisa hone do. Samrat khud mujhse ek din baat karega."
In bedroom, after everyone finished dinner, samrat was sitting on bed with folded legs and working on laptop, and after every ten minutes, he looked towards the door, expecting gunjan to come in and yell at him for working till late. It was almost 12:15 a.m, and to his surprise, when gunjan came in the room, she didn't say anything to him, and went in washroom, with her night-gown.
"She is still upset for the last evening" Samrat thought, as he cursed himself for being the reason behind gunjan's sadness. When he began working again, gunjan came out, and straight away walked towards the bed, and laid there, facing her back to him, and switching off the table lamp of her side.
"main tumse naraaz nahi rehna chahti hun samrat…………….mera toh koi haq bhi nahi hai tumse naraaz rehne ka, kyunki galti toh meri hi hai………..par meri wajah se tumhe jitni pareshani, jitna dukh hua hai, uske liye mujhe ye sab karna pad raha hai……. Please samrat, mera saath de do…….. I promise, hamare beech sab kuchh theek ho jayega……. Hum ek saath ek nayi zindagi shuru karenge…………..."
Gunjan closed her eyes, as a drop of tear escaped through her eyes.
***
Since that day, the entire family stood against samrat. SD spoke to him only about business deals or meetings, and apart from this, he never spoke to him either at office or at home. Suhani replied to him whenever he asked to her something, or else she took least notice of him. Moreover, she was upset at the fact that samrat was not giving at least a single try to fulfill the last wish of their dead mother-to live a happy life with gunjan. And gunjan, well, she had completely cut-off from samrat. She came in this house only for samrat, so that she could make him confess his love by staying with him. But now, she realized that staying under one single roof, or sleeping on one bed doesn't makes a man and a woman as husband and wife. And now, it was samrat's turn to fall in love once again with gunjan.
She never met samrat when he left for office, or when he returned back at home. Instead of serving him food first, she herself ate her meal and then left the dining table. Whenever he used to come in the bedroom, gunjan didn't come there, or if she was there in the room, she used to leave the room and go downstairs. And usually, she spent most of her time outside the room, away from samrat.
About a week had passed since this was happening. By now, samrat had realized that it was his fault- His fault for creating problems earlier in gunjan's life, for which she was punishing him now. But, what he thought to be the reason behind this was wrong. Samrat only knew that armaan and gunjan were meant to be together, but gunjan wished to spend rest of her life with samrat, and was deeply hurt to realize that armaan was the reason for samrat not confronting to her.
But, was only armaan the reason, or something else? Was there some other reason, unknown to gunjan, which made samrat realize that gunjan loved armaan? She gave a thought to it sometimes, but could never guess out the exact reason.
Gunjan's sadness, her anger, her silence, her ignorance, and her carelessness- these all had been affecting samrat since one week. He could not at all pay attention towards office work, neither could he sleep in night, nor could he spend a peaceful day. All he could do was to think only of gunjan, how she was persuading him sweetly to confess one evening, but instead, he talked to her rudely saying that he never loved her and was not meant for her. Was this easy for gunjan too?
No, this entire one week was not good either for samrat or gunjan. It was hard for both of them to stay quiet in front of each other even for a minute, and here, they had passed one week like this!
But as time passed, samrat was losing his patience. It was a long time since gunjan had been testing his patience, and now, samrat was frustrated by her silence.
