The first few steps I took ' I couldn't really see any faces, but the closer I got, the more clearer the face became and I suddenly notice her........

She was sitting on a bench in the far corner of the ground ' she seemed a little agitated.....as if something was on her mind. I walked closer......as I took a few steps further I notice she wasn't alone....there were two other girls with her.....both seem to be around her...making it difficult for me to clearly see her face.

I managed to get a little closer but was soon stopped by a hand on my shoulder. I turn to see who dared put their hand upon Maan Singh Khurana.......but I soon gathered only 2 people actually knew me here in this school and I was right as I returned the brotherly hug from Dev. Dev, my young carefree brother who was only a year and half younger than me.

Dev: Hey Bro...finally you are here!! The Great DPS welcomes you Bro ' now you're here its certainly going to be lots of fun ' I can finally show you off to all my friends and tell them about you. I'm so happy Bro. Dev said as a wide grin appeared on his face.

Maan: Indeed kiddo ' now I am sure glad to be here too....getting up real early in the mornings to get to school on time was surely getting a little straining. But now, I'm here, now you can be assured, you and Pari shall always have me beside you and don't you worry ' Now I'm here all will be good.

Dev was a little confused, he never understood his brother's talks ' he liked talking in long long sentences and no matter how much Dev tried ' he could never understand what exactly was going on in his brother's mind for him to make sense of his confusing talks.

Dev: err come on Bro, let's go in.....wouldn't want you getting late now- would we ' that too on your first day here. *As he let out a chuckle* Come bro...

Maan: no Dev, one second...as Maan turns around to look again in the same corner where he had seen her before. He noticed one of the girls leaving her side, giving him access to see her face much clearly ' but what he saw sent a shiver down his spine.........she had been....crying???

Dev hopelessly trailed behind him to the same place, hopelessly praying for things not to get any worser.

As Maan reached the bench;

Maan: Pari????

As soon as Pari heard her name being called ' she froze...*oh no......he's here already? OMG I hope he didn't hear what I said*.... Pari thought as she clumsily tried to think what to do. She looked up at him and gave a smile

Pari: Big Bro!!! You're here ' OMG Welcome to DPS Big Bro *Pari said desperately trying to hide her tears and sorrow and put on a brave face.* She was genuinely happy to have her Big Bro here in this school, she knew how difficult it got for him to be at a totally different school that too quite far ' almost created a barrier between the three siblings ' Maan on one side and Dev and Pari on the other.

Maan smiled seeing his little sister hopelessly trying to keep a happy face when he knew that behind this very smile of hers ' something was bugging her a lot, hence the tears in her eyes.

Pari was very special to Maan, he loved her very much, perhaps because she was the youngest and like the baby in the house.

Pari was born after great difficulties ' from what he heard from his family elders, and even at birth she was quite weak and born 2 months premature. At that time, Maan's mum was quite weak too and whilst Pari was kept in an incubator until she became healthy, his mum was struggling in a different ward to regain her good health. Maan had never felt soo afraid in life, but at that time he could see only fear around him as one side he had a little baby sister 'whom he had longed for, for god knows how long and on the other his own mother was counting her days. Maan was on the brink to break to pieces. But as the days went by, Maan's mother got much better and was recovering really well. On the other hand, Pari too was becoming healthy, she no longer needed to be in an incubator and was transferred to a new baby's ward ' Maan would go to see her everyday and be amazed at how little her hands and feet were and each night he would go and tell Dev about her. Dev was kept away from the hospital since he was still quite little and they didn't want him to catch anything. Maan was also forbidden but Maan had his way of getting things done ' he was a very ziddy type bacha. After a few months, Pari was brought home and the nam-karan ceremony was to held that evening. Whilst everyone was arguing over the different names, Maan got really fed up and finally got up and screamed.

Everyone was taken aback, Maan's mum instantly ran towards him thinking he was hurt.....she grabbed him in a hug and worriedly asked him what happened.

Maan: Uffoooo Mummy............Pari!!!!

Mum: Pari???

Maan: Yes...Pari- he said as he pointed towards the little angel in the cot. Everyone understood his gesture and sure enough they too liked the idea of their little angel to be called Pari. So that was the finding of Pari Kaur Khurana.

Besides being the only girl in the house, Maan generally had a softer corner for her and would usually go out of his way to do things to make his little angel happy. He shared a tight bond with her, but he never seemed to express this love to her because he didn't want her to become heavily dependent on her brothers, or somehow get spoilt with the amount of love or should we say overflow of love, she would get from her brothers ' Maan especially. So he would usually keep quite a strict demeanour around her and advice her about discipline and make her do things on her own rather than doing them for her ' so she learns to do things her own way, by herself. But at times when Pari would get upset and cry, he would do everything he possibly could to make her smile ' even if it meant he would have to let go of his disciplinary manner for that one moment of joy.

Seeing tears in her eyes now, Maan couldn't resist and pulled Pari into a tight sideways hug, rubbing her arm to console her.

Maan: *softly* Pari what's the matter? You were crying??

Saying Pari was shocked would be an understatement, her Big Bro was holding her in the tightest hug she could ever imagine for the first time in God knows how long! Pari felt a fresh bout of tears coming along but she gulped it down and took few deep breaths to control them and after a while pulled away...

Pari: Big Bro.........as she looked into his eyes, she could see nothing but love and worry for her ' perhaps Geet Di was right, perhaps he really does mean the best for me, but he's just a little protective but that's his way of showing his love

Bro I'm fine.....who said I was crying??? Did you not know that Pari Kaur Khurana does NOT cry!!!!!!!

And with that she let out a little giggle to ease the atmosphere a little, which was followed by Dev, Meera and then Maan too joining in.

Maan: By the way........who was that? *As maan turned around to indicate a young girl hurrying along towards the west wing of the building.* she was with you just now, right? Who and what was she doing here?

Pari suddenly froze again, she didn't know what to say, even though Geet Di was a girl and Maan shouldn't really have an issue with it, she had never mentioned about her and how she looked up to her as a sister. She didn't know what to say or where to start from, she knew Maan would be upset if she told him the truth, as he may feel bad for Pari not trusting him enough. It wasn't about trust but Pari just found it a lot easier to talk to Di than Maan.

Dev, who by now had been a silent witness to the hug and conversation and whilst being shocked himself, he felt as if had just got a step closer to peeping into his brother's heart. He always knew Maan was over-sensitive when it came to Pari, but he had never seen it, until just now.

He sensed the awkward silence and intervened:

Dev: Oh come on Bro, you're always telling us about our manners ' where'd you forget yours today? *Maan gave Dev a glare but before Maan could do any damage Dev continued*;

Dev: Meet Meera Handa, our Pari's rather good friend ' Dev said whilst gesturing towards Meera who also had been a silent witness to everything and was beginning to feel a little out of place amongst the brotherly-sisterly love. Almost feeling bad about not having the opportunity to share such moments with anyone.

Maan looked at Meera and gave a faint smile.

Maan: Hi Meera, I've heard a lot about you ' it's finally nice to meet you. And he offers his hand for a handshake

Meera: hesitantly shakes hands

Hello, I have heard a lot about you too, Nice to meet you too...er...... and then struggled as she didn't know his name and wasn't sure if she was to refer to him as Big Bro as Pari did. Maan seemed to understand her dilemma

Maan: Pari told me about you being the only child. Since you and Pari seem quite close and are similar in age, Pari refers to me as Big Bro, you could do that if you wish ' he said with a sweet smile upon his face, seeing how the little girl's face lit up. He then turned to Dev ' and I'm sure you've met Dev too, *Dev froze in anticipation of what was soon to follow*
