Part 17 b

Geet came home and decided to tell Maan first.

She called Adi, and asked him about Maan. He told her that sir had gone out to view site for a new project. Geet said 'okay, thanks.'

Geet tried on his cell next. His cell was switched off. She felt a bit sad but then went to tell Mama.

.....................................Later at night..............................................

Maan came home at night really tired. It was 1 a.m. he was tired with the constant battle within himself. Staying away from geet was getting more difficult day by day especially knowing that she wanted him as well. On top of that dadi ma's continuous hints that she wanted them to decide a date were making him more edgy.

He started up the stairs and found geet sitting on the stairs, her head was on her lap and she appeared sleep. She must have been waiting for him.

He tapped her lightly on the shoulder. Geet jerked awake. He looked into her big beautiful eyes and felt his resolve weakening. He took two steps back.

Geet looked around a bit disorientated, then saw Maan and remembered that she was waiting for him.

Geet, '' i have been waiting whole day to tell you something really big? She said excitedly. Maan noticed her whole face was lit up with inner happiness. He couldn't help smiling at her enthusiasm. He felt tiredness leaving his body, just being near made him relax. Not completely because there was always an undercurrent of a tension, a physical chemistry between them.

He didn't question this feeling, didn't realize its importance. Maybe, he was scared about the answers.

Maan, '' okay. Why don't you make me a cup of coffee while i listen to you.''

Geet, '' no, i will make you coffee later, first let me show you something.'' In her excitement, she grabbed his hand and took him to her room. She took him to her study table and grabbed an envelope, she gave it to him.

Maan looked at their still joined hands. Geet realized she was still holding his hand; she blushed and released his hand.

Maan looked amused at her blushing face. He opened the letter and read it. His read it again and then, looked up at her, all amusement gone from his face.

Geet felt her own smile slipping. Why wasn't he happy? He seemed to be getting angry. He started pacing the room. Geet sat down on her bed stunned at his reaction. She had never seen him this angry but she thought he would be proud of her.

'' what is the meaning of this geet?'' he finally asked.

'' i don't understand Maan? Why are you behaving like this?''

'' you don't understand? According to this letter, you have been admitted to university of ******.

you know where it is? ''

''In Simla.

Maan,'' and you didn't even bother to tell me before taking this step.''

Geet ,'' i wanted to surprise you. I thought you would be happy.''

Maan,'' i am angry that you will be going away from me Geet. You say that you love me yet you are the one going away.'

Geet,' but it won't make any difference Maan, you are always staying away from me. It doesn't matter if i am here or in Simla. At least that way you won't have to be worried about Dadi ma setting the wedding date without your consent.''

Maan, '' you think that i am happy staying away from you. You know nothing.'' He moved toward the bed and stood staring down at Geet. His face red and there was an expression in his eyes that she couldn't understand. But she refused to back down.

''I know you said it is because of the umm... physical attraction but fari and Vicky are together as well and they really love each other and they are not intimate but they daily meet each other and try to spend as much time together as possible. You just don't want to be with me and that's why you are making excuses. You have never told me about your feelings and you always treat me like a child.''

Maan went toward the door.

Geet,'' yeah right run away from situation that is really mature of .... her words stuck in her mouth because Maan closed the door and then, locked it.
