Wish you were here
Mayank's P.O.V
"Kill her! I want her dead!" I heard my father's voice echo through the thick door that separated the hallway; where I was standing from his chamber.
I opened the door and entered without the slightest of hesitation. True, I feared my father and what he could do if I disobeyed his commands but I had to go against him on this one.
"Son, what are you doing here? You should be in the battle-field!" He retorted with his angry eyes piercing through me.
"You won't kill her! I won't allow you!" I replied in an angry yet controlled tone. I saw his face scrunch and form an evil grin.
"Guards! Lead my sod to his chamber. He needs to learn his manners and that no one goes against his father!" He said; his voice rising in the last sentence.
His guards lead me to my chamber. I hear them shut the door and a click that meant I was locked in. I felt weak as I rushed to the door and banged on it repeatedly. "Let me out! You can't do this!" I shouted over and over pleading that someone might hear my desperate cries.
'I had to save her. No one had the right to hurt her or even touch her, except for me.' I said to myself as I paced and thought of a way to escape this. I lay on my bed and thought of many ways that might allow me to rescue her.
Without realizing it I had fallen asleep.
I wake up with a sudden thought; a plan I had devised in my sleep. My idea made a chill run up my spine, because I knew something bad was going to happen. I started to worry because I thought they had already done the job.
I marched up to my door and regained my composure. "Guards! I have to speak to my father!" I said calmly yet confidently.
To my surprise I heard a click and they opened the latch. I saw my father standing in front of me. My heart started to beat faster so I took in my breath slowly to calm down my beating heart.
I told my father that if it meant that much to him to win this war I would help him.
"Well, my son has finally seen my side of things." He said with a slight chuckle. "Since you said so, I will put you in charge for the assassination of Nupur Bushan."
I felt my plan spring into action. I will make sure no one touched her, but me. "Yes, sir" I knew my father would put me in charge of her assassination to punish me and I was glad he did.
He let me alone to retire to my room and there my brilliant plan took action. I loaded my BAR with five bullets. I knew that was all I needed. I headed out to the palace stables and grabbed a horse and rode off to the other side of the land.
As I drew closer to her home, I knew that I had to prepare physically and mentally for what was about to happen. I felt all the blood rush to my head as I slowly tossed a hook to her balcony which laid open for me. I climbed up the rope and there she was. Sitting on her bed; waiting for me.
"Mayank!" She gasped as she came running to me. She offered me a tight hug which I returned generously. "I thought you were never going to come, I was so worried." She said as a tear rolled down her face.
I wiped off the tear with my thumb and caressed her cheek. I leaned in closer and felt her lips against mine. I kissed her gently but not aggressively. I missed her lips and her embrace. She broke the kiss and looked into my eyes. "Mayank? What's wrong?" She asked with her beautiful eyes staring at me with worry.
"Nothing" I lied. I knew my father would be waiting for me, for my news that she was dead. Her father and mother already died in the war and she's left to deal with it. She would seek my help countless of times but alas I was prohibited from seeing her. I was actually very surprised my father trusted me enough to come here alone.
"You sure?" She said staring at me with those sweet eyes. "I'm sure" Again, I lied; releasing her from my embrace.
*BANG*BANG*
"Your highness! We have visitors for you!" We heard someone bang on the door. I knew at once it was my father's guard. It was the very same voice. She skipped to the door getting ready to open it.
'click' "Don't open it!" I said with my gun pointing straight for her. "Mayank?" She said looking at me with a quizzical look. I walked closer to her and took her in my arms. "Be quiet, it's my father's guards" I whispered.
I told her to hide and keep quiet. I opened the door and just as I predicted, my father's guards stood there with him following not too far behind. "How did you get past all the guards?" I asked as he came forward. "Must you ask?" He replied walking into the room.
"I see you have done what you promised?" He asked looking around the room. "I have" I lied.
I leaned in closer to the door as Nupur was hiding behind it. I didn't expect her to react. "Mayank" She let out in a silent yet heard voice.
"LIAR!" My father shouted and signaled his guards to me. Nupur ran out of the corner and in front of me. *BANG*BANG*BANG*BANG*BANG*
Five consecutive shots. I shot them all. The room became silent as I looked at all of them: dead. I took my first shot at Nupur, I intended to shoot her when I first came in but looking at her I just had to touch her one last time. I shot my father next and lastly his three guards.
I bent down to Nupur who lay on the floor covered in blood. I shed a tear and felt a striking pain within my chest. I didn't want to bear the pain of having someone kill her knowing that I could do nothing to help so I did the job myself. Why didn't I just shoot my father and his guards you ask? One word: Promise. I made a promise years ago and I didn't want to break it. The pain inside me grew more and more and I finally let it out in one cry. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH~" I shouted; angry at myself for making that promise.
She was dead; the one person whom I truly loved; dead.
----
It was four years ago when that incident occurred. My heart still aches for her to return. I shed a tear as I looked outside the balcony where we both once stood and kissed.
Flashback
15 years ago:
"Mayank! Listen to me!" I heard her shout at me trying to gain my attention. I was drawing something when she barged into my room and started to blabber.
"Mayank!!" She said once again.
"What?!" I shouted at her.
"Don't look at me like that. It hurts." She said looking down fidgeting with her fingers. I felt sorry and apologized.
"Nupur. What is it?" I said trying to look cute.
"Promise me that you won't ever let anyone hurt me? Promise me we'll be friends forever?" She said with that cute voice of hers I could never resist.
"Promise!" I said smiling at her. She smiled back radiantly as usual and I blushed slightly.
End of flashback
I felt a cold wind brush past my face. "Dad" I heard someone call. It was my daughter, Nupur. I named her that to remind me of her. I adopted her last year. It was always Nupur's dream to adopt a child. I did that for her.
"What is it Nupur?" I asked as I carried her into a big hug.
"Nothing~ I just wanted to ask when is my Mom coming back home" She said with her adorable voice.
"Mom won't be coming back." I said to a disappointed looking Nupur.
"But, why? Doesn't she love us?" She asked. I knew the exact answer to her question.
"She loves us very much; it's just that she can't come back." I told her. She gave me a confused face and I just laughed at her. I let her down and she ran out of the room.
"Dad" She called again.
"Hmm?" I said turning around.
"Nupur loves you!" She said with a smile and ran out laughing.
I sighed and returned to looking at the sky. "Nupur, wish you were here."
