Part 25
Shilpa reached across the table and settled her hand on his and gave it an empathetic squeeze. It seemed to give Sid the push he needed to continued, "Here in front of me was the wogoman that destroyed me not once, but multiple times and instead of walking away without giving a damn, or spitting venom at her all I wanted to do was hold her in my arms." His voice broke a little as he said, "Am I so stupid that instead of hating the woman who destroyed all my dreams I still felt as though she was my dream? In that moment I wanted to forgive her for everything and say let's just move forward from this point and forget about the past." Shilpa's heart broke for her Bhaiya. She wanted to take all the pain onto herself so that he would be pain free, but she knew better than anyone else that it didn't work that way. So she did the only thing she could and gave him her love and said, "Bhaiya, you wouldn't be you if you didn't still care about her. She was your wife the woman you gave your heart and soul to, the woman you believed was your soulmate. Nobody really gets 'over' that kind of love, all they can do is move forward and try to love again." Sid seemed to drink up everything Shilpa was saying when he responded with, "The thing is I thought I had. Up until that moment I thought I had put my past where it belongs, in the past. But when I saw her again it was like not even a day had passed. It was like our last fight was simply a tiff and it was time to make up. In that moment, I was Siddhant and she was Riddhima, my Riddhima."
He stopped talking and Shilpa wasn't sure if he was going to add anything else. She waited for a few minutes figuring he was gathering his thoughts when she got tired of waiting and was about to speak he beat her to it, "The sad thing is, she has moved on. Right there while all these thoughts of us and how I missed her and how she was my wife she didn't say or do anything. Instead, her phone rang and when she glanced at it it was so obvious that it was him calling. She had moved on with him and here I was just as gulliable as I was three years ago dreaming about a woman that doesn't want or even think about me because she is already with the man she wants to be with." His eyes had started to tear up a little but the satisfication he had felt when he had said the words of anger to her helped to keep them at bay. "In that moment I knew that all she did was care about me, she didn't love me. At least no in the way I wanted my wife to love me. I didn't want to but I snapped and all the venom that had been locked up inside of me came out at full force. And I can't even tell you what I said because truth be told I don't remember a damn word."
There didn't seem to be anything else to say except, "So what now?" Shilpa asked. Sid simply shrugged his shoulders and said, "Nothing. I continue to try and move forward in my life and hope that I don't have to see her ever again." Sid and Shilpa moved slightly forward in the conversation but not too far. She continued to contemplate aloud as to why Riddhima would show up in Houston after all this time especially since she had seemed to move on. The more the two contemplated the clearer the conclusion became, the woman was simply too crazy to try and predict what was going on in that brain for hers.
Sue had just put away all of the various stuff she had pulled out to keep Siddhant entertained. She shook her head at the realization that she and Superboy still had so much kiddie toys in their house even though they were both grown adults had no kids in the house. She picked up an antique car that she was missing a wheel and let out a laugh. She remembered this car her mom had tried so many times to get rid of it but it was like a pesky rat ad never did leave the house. Some how Sid had always found it and dragged it back into the house. Her parents has tried everything from blackmailing to bribery but none of it worked. In fact a she thought a little more she was pretty sure that they had even threatened not to gift him a car for his 18th birthday if e didn't get rid of it. So the badmaash pretended to throw it away only to have his best friend grab it from the trash for him. Within a month it was back in the house. Sue was fortunate enough to have had her camera with the moment her mom had found it. That photo was priceless and she's pretty sure it went down as the best Mother's day gift in the Modi family history when she gifted it to her Mom. She had figured that when Sid had gone to India it would have been the perfect chance to get rid of it but once again her brother proved too smart. He had taken the car with him! She still had no idea why he kept such a strong hold on the broken car and whenever she asked he'd simply say 'It meant a lot to me when I was little and I have big plans for it some day.". She had no clue what that meant. But regardless of what Sid's plan was today the car seemed as precious to Siddhant as it had been to Sid. Only the promise that it would always be here for him to play with whenever he came over placated him enough to get him to go. Sue was just about to place the car away when the doorbell rang. She broke into a grin and kept the car in her hands knowing who was going to be waiting she swung open the door while she said, "Avni, I told you you should've just taken this for Siddhant..."

Shilpa had enjoyed BB time they had since moved on to other more appetizing topics including what Shilpa's plan might be for her future medical career and whether Sid planned to take the job opportunity overseas. They had finished up their meals and headed back home arm in arm enjoying the evening sky above them. Once they had gotten in the car Shilpa told Sid that she needed to get back to the hospital because she was on night shift. Sid remembered he still had some notes to dictate and had originally planned to do them at home, but since he had to go drop of Shilpa he decided he'd just stick around and finish them off in his office. He turned the car in the direction of the hospital and turned up the BB mix Shilpa had given on on Raakhi day last year.

Sue continued to open the door a grin on her face and the car extended in her other hand. She glanced up and froze. Her thoughts started to swirl and she had a hard time getting a grasp on one of them let alone all of them. The only thought that kept cycling around was, Is it the end of the world? It must be. Her fingers reflexively tightened on the car and she felt her arm tighten up as if ready to launch a missile. There was so much she wanted to say, but nothing was organizing fast enough. So she did the only thing that came naturally she started to slam the door shut.
But a hand quickly shot out and prevented her. The person on the other side of the door had been just as frozen as Sue. There was never any intention to disrupt Sue's life but once again fate had intervened and once again two people who were never meant to run into each other did.

Sid and Shilpa walked into the hospital together at the Emergency entrance Shilpa veered toward the right while Sid continued towards his office. He sat down in his chair and let out a deep sigh. He closed his eyes to try and gather the energy he'd need to do some work. But once again his mind had other ideas, it started to venture towards the one subject he wanted to avoid at all costs. He tried a few times to redirect but it wasn't happening. He opened his eyes and did the only thing he knew that would solve this dilemma. He picked up his phone and dialed.
________________
Riddhima had spent the past two days trying to get her balance again. It seemed that no matter how hard she tried she could never quite get back onto even ground. She had figured her world would get rocked a little. But the last thing she had expected was for it to get turned upside down and sideways. The first day after her encounter with Siddhant she had found herself laying on her bed for hours. The only time she was able to emerge from the memories of her past was when her phone rang. The first time it rang she almost missed it because she was so deeply engrossed in the memories of her and Siddhant's second marriage. She was remembering the warm fuzzy feeling in her heart, the safety she felt when he wrapped his arms around her and the complete and utter joy at him telling her he loved her as they prepared for their 'real' wedding. She was so engrossed that the second she had realized her phone was ringing she hit accept and expected to hear Siddhant's voice on the other end. But of course fate wasn't so kind instead she heard the one voice she never wanted to hear. The one that sent chills of fear down her back. She quickly hit end and flung her phone across the room.
After that phone call it took her a long while to try and get her heart rate and breathing under control. It took much longer to the get the chills of fear to subside. In fact the only way she was able to get it under control was when she pulled out her life line from her bag. She grasped it in her arms and held it close to her. Finally she was feeling herself get calm again, and once again she felt herself getting pulled into the past. Where she got lost until her phone rang again a little while later. She didn't want to pick up so she let it go to voicemail. But the person was persistent and wouldn't let up. So the third time she got up angry she grabbed her phone angry and ready to tell off the person she had wanted to for a long time. But before she could get out more then the word 'enough' with hatred she heard the voice on the other line and it wasn't who her anger was targeted at. "Mummy. I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else." Padma replied with concern, "I can tell from your voice who you thought I was. Riddhima, please stop torturing yourself and come home. If anything, what happened the other night should have sent enough of a jhatka to bring you back to your common sense." Riddhima wanted to reassure her mother that things were fine, but she had learned a long time ago that it was pointless. So instead she replied with, "Mummy, I have already explained to you why I had to come here. And that i will return as soon as I am finished with it." Riddhima realized how abrupt she was and immediately softened her reply with, "I know I worried you the other day when you called me. But everything had just happened. I had never intended on seeing him again, but there he was in the flesh."
Padma heard Ridz's voice drift off and knew that her daughter was getting lost in the the happenings of the other night. She remembered how Riddhima had sounded the night before when she had called her. Sad and lonely, which were expected given that she was in a foreign country by herself and hadn't yet talked to Shilpa. But what was really odd was the sense of excitement and wonder that was hidden beneath the sadness and loneliness. She had had to work on her to finally get the truth out. And when she had she was glad she was already sitting other wise Shashank would have found her collapsed on the floor. She had always hoped fate would play a role in bringing Siddhant back into Riddhima's life, but she hadn't expected it to be during this trip nor did she want it to be too late. But from what she heard from Riddhima and the pain she sensed in her daughter she was able to realize that the woman with Sid was someone who meant alot. If she was honest with herself she would have to say she was glad for Sid. Even though it meant heartache for her daughter, she was glad that things had worked out for Sid. Granted she was biased and wanted her daughter to be happy, but after everything Sid had done and what he had had to go through because of her daughter she was glad he was getting some of the happiness he deserved a long time ago. However she had hoped that that happiness would have been with her daughter. Padma shook herself from her wandering thoughts and came back to the now.
Padma tried to get Riddhima to tell her what her plan was now that Sid knew she was in his hometown, and what her plans were in regards to Shilpa. But she could tell by her daughter's voice that she was lost somewhere else, and no matter how much she wanted to fix everything this was something only Riddhima had the power to fix...or break. So Padma did the only thing she could, "Teek hai. Take care of yourself, and remember I am always here for you and am waiting for you to come home. I love you."
Riddhima wished she could have told her mom more about her plan, but there was nothing she could say. Especially since she herself had no clue what she was going to do. She told her mom she loved her and hung up the phone. Once again left alone in the silence of her motel room.
