Part 18

Riddhima shook herself of her reverie and glanced at her watch only to realize that it was getting late. I better get going, tomorrow's going to be nerve racking as is it definitely won't help to be sleep deprived and depressed. Well at least I got to see Sid's hometown and spend some time in one of his favorite places. She gathered her things and got up and as she left she took once last glance at the elderly couple.

Sid and Avni lingered over their finished dinners and then decided it was time to leave. Sid reached for Avni's coat just as she did and they ended up playing a slight tug of war. "What are you doing Sid? It's cold outside why are you trying to steal my coat? Don't you have your own, besides my coat wont fit you. If it did I would be so embarrassed." Sid initially gave Avni a What the look, and the more she rambled the bigger his smile got, but he made sure to keep a strong grip on her coat. Finally, he cut her off, "MS. Avni, I am not trying to keep you from your coat, and I certainly am not trying to wear your coat. I was just trying to be a gentleman and hold out your coat for you so that it would be easier for you to get on." Avni immediately lost the wind from her lungs and her face turned bright red as she realized how wrong what she was thinking was. She immediately let go of her hold on her coat and Sid used that moment to hold open her coat to her back so that she could slip her arms in. As she solemnly put on her coat he leaned forward and whispered in her ear, "Besides pink is soooo not my color." Avni couldn't help it once again Sid dissipated the tension in her, she let out a laugh at his absurd comment and as she belted her coat she turned and said, "Thank you kind sir." Sid responded with a wink. The two walked out of the restaurant still smiling over the incident, once they reaced the sidewalk Sid turned towards Avni and asked, "Hey, you want to go grab some dessert? I know this great place just around the corner and it's one of my favorite places. I would go there all the time when I was in college." Avni smiled and with a wink said, "Sid, a woman never turns down dessert...or a good man."

As Ridz stepped outside she pulled the collars of her coat up as a shiver passed through her body. She watched as people passed by her in short sleeves and some even wore shorts and here she was bundled as if she were in Shimla and still cold. In that moment she made the decision that it was late enough and cold enough that walking was not the best option so she turned and headed towards the direction of the train station. As she headed towards her new destination she started to think about what tomorrow was going to bring. I'm feeling nervous and yet excited, I know what is going to be the outcome of tomorrow, but a part of me is just feeling relieved that once and for all it will all be done. I will get to tell Shilpa everything and she will finally know all of it, and then she will get to make the final decision. She took a deep breath in enjoying the cold air that filled her lungs as she thought to herself that regardless of tomorrow's outcome she would soon be able to leave this place that was so filled with him. It was hard enough while she was in India to try and move forward, but here it was nearly impossible.

Sid was still trying to recover from Avni's saucy response while he made the quick 180 degree turn to accommodate their new destination. He was still smiling over Avni's new spicy attitude with him when he collided into someone head on. He automatically reached out to steady the person he collided with and the words started to come out, "I'm s..." before he could finish he looked up and his mind and body both froze. He wasn't sure if what he saw was real. It couldn't be. I mean what? How? Why?

She didn't know what happened, but one second she was steady on her feet crouching in her collar to try and preserve her body heat and power walk to the train station, and the next she felt the wind get knocked out of her. Then just as quickly she was resteadied as hands grasped her arms. She started speaking before she looked up knowing she was distracted before, "I'm Sorry..." Then she looked up and saw him.

Sid was shocked and numb. He felt thousands of emotions overwhelm him simultaneously, joy and anger, relief and anxiety. Sid couldn't believe what he was seeing. He wanted it to be true, and yet at the same time he hoped it wasn't. Because if it was he didn't trust what he would do. Either way he knew it spelled disaster for him. But if it wasn't then he could deal with it, hell he's been dealing with it for years. As he stared while subconsciously his fingers grasping her arms tightened. It was as though he was trying to hang on to her, fearing that if he didn't she would disappear.

Riddhima openly stared, deep down somewhere she knew she should be laughing at the shock and drool that must have been registered on her face. She had to fight with her eyelids to keep from closing in a sigh of relief when Sid's fingers tightened on her arms. She wanted to lean forward and wrap her arms around him and hold him tight. Like the thousands of times she had done in her dreams. She started to reach out and wrap her arms around him.

Sid had no idea his hands were still grasping her, he didn't even realize when he started hoping that this was indeed a dream. He just hoped for his heart's sake it was because he could barely restraint himself from pulling her into his embrace. He felt his biceps start contracting and his chest moving forward. He prayed that this was a dream and that the worst consequence of the actions he was about engage in was waking up. He could handle the pain and sadness that came after realizing what he had hoped was his future was only a dream, but he doubted he'd be able to survive the pain he felt when he had to let her go. Which was always the way it ended in real life.

Riddhima was just inches from touching Sid's body. She had never expected to see him, she had figured the last she would ever get to see of him was his back as he walked away from her over three years ago. But then she was given a rare gift the opportunity to see Sid on this trip. She had never intended to find him, but the few minutes she was granted to watch him uninhibited, laughing and smiling and so like the man he was before he had met her. The one that had reemerged just before their second wedding, the one she had planned on spending the rest of her life with. But she had figured that was all she was going to get for the next 4 years or even ever. But once again fate intervened, that thing was like a bad shadow never leaving them alone. So before she could touch Sid she realized that embracing him was what she wanted, but it wasn't necessarily what Sid would want. So she stopped her arm where they were and scanned his face trying to get a read on it. But all she could see was a blur of emotions, some good some bad, some happy some sad. And it was then when she let her arms drop down by her side for she knew he wasn't ready for whatever would come of their embrace. Whether it was what she hoped for or feared.

Sid was tired of all the chaos swirling around in his head, he didn't care what his heart was saying or what his brain was, he shoved it all back into the dark recesses of his mind and went by instinct he started to slide his arms around her arms towards her back while at the same time pulling her closer to him.

Avni had no idea what had happened. One second she was grinning behind Sid's back as he tried to recover from her pot shot when he suddenly collided into a woman. She watched as he kept her balance and expected him to tell her I'm sorry, but instead he just stood stockstill. Then the longer she watched them stand still it was as if a vortex had surrounded them. The world had faded for them, and they had no clue what was going on around them. She stood by silently observing them trying to figure out who the woman was and how she had forced the clouds that were almost always in Sid's eyes turn darker black while at the same time causing them to clear away. She was beyond confused, she took a few steps closer and stood just behind Sid waiting for him to let her know what he wanted her to do. It seemed as though minutes had gone by and neither had moved, well not much. The woman had started to reach for him but after a while she just let her arms drop limply at her side. Meanwhile, Sid's hands stayed on her arms, she watched his fingers flex it was at that point that she thought she should maybe let him know in case he hurt her. She started to reach out her hand to give a soft tap on his shoulder her fingers were about an inch away from making contact when his hands started to slide around her back. Avni immediately withdrew her hand and continued to watch anxious to see what unfolded.
